Ladies Draw Arsenal in UWCL QF
Birmingham City Ladies face English opponents in the UEFA Women’s Champions League after drawing Arsenal in the quarter-final draw held yesterday.
Blues will face the 2012 WSL Champions at home first on March 22 or 23 with the return leg to be played a week later. Holders Wolfsburg were drawn against Barcelona, Italian side Torres play German side Potsdamn whilst Swedes Tyresö FF will take on Austrian side SV Neulengbach.
Whilst Arsenal represent a much logistically easier and cheaper away trip for the Blues Ladies it will no doubt disappoint those dreaming of a trip to the likes of Barcelona. Arsenal beat Blues Ladies home and away in the WSL last year and Blues will have to be at their very best if they are to progress further on the road to Lisbon. They will also have to do this without influential captain Laura Bassett who opted not to renew her contract at the end of the season.
Should the ladies make it through a trip to either Tyreso or Neulengbach will await them (April 19/20 and 26/27) in the semi-finals.

Do we know if this will be played at St Andrews?
Not sure. Think it will depend on how the pitch is and what other fixtures are around it.
No sweat for blues ladies …come on super blues
Arsenal are our Ladies’ bogey team. It would be nice to get one over on them for a change. Good luck to the girls in blue.
Well playing Arsenal at least it’ll give us some coverage. In the last round the media seemed interested only in Arsenal, not Blues.
Could play in our favour, Blues know how Arsenal Ladies play and have a reason to do well and prove they are better, I favour, without bias, Blues Ladies to win the first leg and shut up shop on the return to make it through to the semi finals…. Bring it on Ladies…. KRO
KRO+DNM
to constantly improve and go further in this competition you need to beat the best teams in front of you, i hope for change that we can achieve that,,,,,,,,best luck girls and go for it…………kro
More importantly will they play at the Emirates.
I’m sure not. Any advantage we may have we should exercise as if we are honest the odds would be 1/3 arsenal As they have the bigger squad and the better players.
Hey you never know. “4000” would shock them let’s support the girls as best we can!
4000 would shock them, but just imagine a few more if the club gave free ticket’s ot the city’s schools, hospitals, fire stations, kids homes, girl guides and brownie packs ect …
it could be a great night for football in so many positive ways.
I know this is from last year… but it’s still good. :-)
