Loans and Feeders

It was published in the Telegraph today that FIFA are to ban “emergency” and “youth” loans as currently allowed by the Football League from the 2014-15 season as they contravene FIFA laws on transfer windows. It got me thinking about how this could impact us at Blues, and whether it was a good idea or not.

TV Rights and Wrongs
Money. It’s something that we all wish we had more of, and yet it’s something we all see as corrupting – be it politicians, bankers or football. I read this article interviewing the Liverpool chief exec, where he talks about the break up of international Premier League rights, and I thought it was a good subject to talk about – particularly bearing in mind Blues’ being an internationally owned company.

Book Review: The Smell of Football by Mick “Baz” Rathbone
My review “The Smell of Football” – by Mick “Baz” Rathbone (22 league appearances for Blues between 1977 and 1979)

Substitute Changes
The Football League has today made an announcement that I think bodes well for the new season at Blues. The rule regarding matchday squad size has changed, with clubs now only allowed to name five substitutes.

Dispatched: Is Foreign Ownership really to blame?
Like many other football fans, I watched Dispatches on Channel Four last night. I was intrigued as to what they would say about the world of Football finances and whatnot. Of course, with all the hullabaloo surrounding Carson and Blues recently I was intrigued to see what mention we would get on the programme.

Trap Door

How many points will guarantee Premiership safety this year? According to most pundits, 41, 42 or maybe 43 points will see Premiership clubs stay above the relegation trap door – higher than the oft-vaunted 40 points total most teams look at the start of the season. However, I believe this is wrong – I’ve said in the past 36 points would do it, and I’m still confident no more than 38 will be needed.

Off to Partizan II
With Blues not playing this weekend, I thought it might be nice to continue my series of articles looking at teams we might face in next year’s Europa League.

Blame
Twenty four hours on from a league cup quarter final victory over our hated rivals from across the expressway, and only one thing has dominated the post-match discussion in the media and on the messageboards – the aftermath. Blues fans were universally condemned for being hooligans by nearly all sections of the media, and I’m […]
