Scapegoats and the Sun
Former Birmingham City head of PR and Communications Andy Walker has seemingly incurred the wrath of The Sun, appearing on the front page today accused of infuriating fans because of the implied luxury that comes with his role as Head of Communications at the FA.

Football without Fans…
I’ve been watching with interest what has happened up at Liverpool with the protests held by the Spirit of Shankly group against ticket price increases. Fans are claiming victory after the Liverpool board have confirmed prices will now be frozen for the next two years.

Football Ownership – When Protesting Goes Too Far
Problems with football ownership isn’t a concern only for fans of Birmingham City. You only have to look down the A45 to see the travails of Coventry City fans to see how the actions of owners can severely impact on how a fan watches their club.

B Teams (Part II)
The FA Commission launched its report into the state of the national game yesterday, recommending a new fifth tier of English football “League 3” to contain “B” teams of Premier League clubs to improve the amount of competitive action young English players get with the aim of improving the national team.

B Teams
News broke yesterday of proposals to bring “B” teams into the English football structure to help improve the development of young footballers with the long-term aim of improving the national team. The idea would be similar to structures on the continent where “B” teams of major clubs play in lower leagues to give young players competitive action and the current proposal would be to insert them between League Two and the Conference.

Former Blues Player Arrested in Spot Fixing Probe
Former Birmingham City striker DJ Campbell has been named by the Sun newspaper as one of six players held over spot-fixing enquiries. He is the highest profile player so far named as the allegations of players taking money from betting rings continue.

Modern Football Is Rubbish
I was alarmed to read that the Manchester United vice-chairman Edward Woodward has come out and publicly backed an idea that would see “B teams” of the big clubs playing in the football league – similar to the system used in Spain.

Backs to the Wall
I’m not a fan of the winter. It’s cold, it’s depressing and it causes football games to be cancelled. With Blues game not going ahead due to a frozen pitch, it left me to watch what was going on around us this weekend. Here’s what I thought.
