Potential Banana Skin: Doncaster Rovers Preview

Blues take on Paul Dickov’s Doncaster Rovers side tonight with both teams coming off the back of morale boosting wins at the weekend. After beating high-flying QPR 2-1 at home on Saturday Dickov will be hoping his injury-hit squad can maintain momentum against a Blues side who are unbeaten in three.

Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster come into the game having beaten QPR at home; however they have not won away from home since late September and indeed have only beaten relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday on their travels. They have conceded ten goals in their last four away games and lie one place above Blues with one point more although they are nine goals worse off.

Paul Dickov has seven players missing from his squad with Reece Wabara now out until 2014 with a broken toe. Harry Forester and Chris Brown are back in training but won’t play again until later this month and it’s pretty unlikely One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson who has squad number 28 will be called in to make his debut.

Blues

Kyle Bartley will miss out again with a hamstring strain but other than that there are no new injuries and Chris Burke will be looking to get his place back in the side from Shane Ferguson. Blues’ lineup has been settled of late and I don’t think Lee Clark will see the need for any changes as he looks to build on the momentum gained from the last three games.

This game has banana skin all over it; by rights it should be one Blues should win comfortably but we know that the team has a knack of losing matches which look like home bankers on paper. Lee Clark needs to make sure that the good work of the last few weeks isn’t undone by a sloppy performance; this is a game where Blues need to go out and get a victory to bring some cheer to the home fans.

I saw a well positioned banana skin on the pavement the other day and thought that I’ve never ever seen anybody trip on one.

  • DoctorD says:

This season our goals scored at home in the league has been: 1,0, 0, 1, 4, 4, 1, 0, 1

Expect one of those numbers to come up again.

  • Mortonsblue says:

Banana Skin indeed, the last time Doncaster beat us was 1954!

  • Agent McLeish says:

Interesting that the Donny striker Theo Robinson (who netted against QPR) is a Brummie who’s brother is a committed Bluenose. Last time he played against us (v Derby 2012) he scored. Hope history does not repeat as we drew that game.

  • BigmanSteve0 says:

  • StaffsBlue says:

We need to match Coppinger and Wellens in the middle, but apart from that, I don’t think they have too much to worry us.

I think the strikers will come good again tonight. 4-1 Blues.

  • Bluenosesol says:

I predict we will beat Donnies tonight 5-0 and then get the same result against Boro on Sat!
I am also dreaming of a White Christmas. KRO&DNM

  • Agent McLeish says:

This game has certainly appeals. Blues need to provide a fruity display and peel away the Doncaster defence. As long as our defence does not bunch then we’ll be OK. Burke will be key in splitting the Donny defence.

  • dave mann says:

as we all know blues get on a min run like we are now with 7 points from 9 and along comes a
home game we should win and BANG loose 1-0, lets not forget donny are above us and have
a point more so not to be taken lightly, a win tonight and 21 points from 18 games and hopefully
15th in the league will do nicely with boro saturday and the xmas programme to come so lets
keep the run going and push into the top half of the table.KRO.

  • dave mann says:

PS. if ziggy goes down in the area tonight and doesent get touched and dives like tom daley
i will be the first to jump up and shout ” PENALTY” ( what an hipacrit i am but am i bothered
    ……nahhhhh!!!!!!!.KRO.

  • DoctorD says:

Daniel – I wonder if Cameron’s trip to China will make an iota of difference to BIHL. I doubt it, but am I right in thinking CY is the only Chinese person to own an English professional football club?

  • Evesham blue says:

Lol worried about Donny. I love Blunoses natural optimism ;) I know this always happens but put them to the sword Blues!

  • Griff says:

Went to Barnsley game. Burn excellent, generally a decent performance. Play like that tonight and well win.

  • Stephen says:

Good first half tonight, terrible second half. Too many indecisive senior players, taking too many touches when a simple pass was on & a better team would have punished a few on the defensive slips. Great strike for their goal though, shame no one closed him down.

Is Ferguson injured? Can’t understand how he didn’t get a game tonight.

  • Dave S says:

    Not too bad.
4-4-2 is not our best formation, why work so hard to perfect a system the team seem happy with and then change it after a reasonable performance against Barnsley.
A point each is just about right though.
