Clark in the Lions Den – Millwall Preview
Birmingham City travel to South East London tonight to face Millwall in a crunch bottom of the table clash. Victory would see Blues pull away from the relegation zone while defeat would see Blues truly dragged into the mire.
Millwall
Millwall are in a dreadful run of form, having won just once in fourteen league game this calendar year – 1-0 away to Derby – and have failed to score more than one goal in any competition since December 14. They lie in 22nd place, five points and twenty-two goals worse off than Blues.
Stefan Maierhofer is a doubt for the hosts having picked up a knock against Leeds while the Lions have problems in defence; Scott Malone (hip) Mark Beevers (calf) and Dan Shittu (Achilles) are all out.
Blues
Emyr Huws will miss out with a hip injury and Lee Novak is struggling after taking a knock against Reading. Tom Adeyemi is definitely out with injury too so Callum Reilly is likely to start in midfield with Jonathan Spector with Tyler Blackett coming back in at full back. Brian Howard could feature after returning from training but it’s likely he would only get on the bench.
This is a stone-cold must-not-lose game – maybe even a must-win game for Blues. Defeat would pull them into the relegation picture proper and would start the alarm bells ringing for even the most hardened optimists. After what was all accounts a good performance against Reading Clark needs to rally his troops and pick them back up – and hope that Blues’ recent good record at the Den will continue.
