Referee Watch – Mike Jones

Barring any late changes, Mike Jones of Chester will be in the middle for Blues’ Championship game against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground today. Here is a look at his stats.

Season Performance

Mr Jones has taken charge of twenty-nine games so far this season, showing ninety-six yellow cards and three refs. Of those games, seven were in the Championship and they yielded twenty-two bookings.

Last Blues Game Refereed

The last game involving Blues that Mr Jones took charge of was the 1-0 defeat to QPR at Loftus Road in September. In that game, Mr Jones booked five players – Joey Barton of QPR along with Paul Robinson, Dan Burn, Jonathan Spector and Andy Shinnie of Blues. Jones was criticised by Colin Tattum in his match ratings, saying that Jones had given Blues a raw deal on the big decisions.

Last Championship Game Refereed

The last game at this level that Mr Jones was in the middle for was the match between Burnley and Leicester at the end of March. Mr Jones kept his cards in his pocket the entire game.

Suspension Watch

14 yellow cards – Paul Robinson (two suspensions served)
6 yellow cards – Jonathan Spector
5 yellow cards –  Nikola Zigic, Callum Reilly and Olly Lee
4 yellow cards –  Federico Macheda and Paul Caddis
3 yellow cards – Neal Eardley, Tom Adeyemi, Shane Ferguson and Lee Novak
2 yellow cards – Darren Randolph, and Mitch Hancox
1 yellow card –   Koby Arthur,  Matt Green,  Colin Doyle,  Chris Burke, Emyr Huws, Brian Howard, Albert Rusnak, Jordon Ibe and Andrew Shinnie

The “cut-off” point where a fifth yellow card will no longer attract a suspension is after December 31 2013 and the point where a tenth yellow card will no longer attract a suspension is after April 13 2014. If a player collects fifteen yellow cards before the end of the season they will attract a three match ban.
