BIH Announce Change of Company Secretary

Birmingham International Holdings today made an announcement to the stock exchange about a change of company secretary. Chow Hiu Tung, who was appointed company secretary in December 2012 has resigned to be replaced by Wong Wai Kwok, effective April 23.

It wasn’t the announcement any of us were hoping for or expecting, and I don’t think a lot can be read into it. The announcement confirms that Mr Wong has experience in mergers and acquisitions, IPOs and investor relationship but in reality I would expect any company secretary of a multi-million pound listed company to have that sort of experience.

The one interesting piece of information I did pick up was that there is a Mr Wong with the same name and experience who very recently (April 7) has been named an independent non-executive director of Sing Pao Media Enterprises – the other listed company in Hong Kong which Carson Yeung remains a significant shareholder in. Whether that means anything remains to be seen.

While all this is going on, there has been no further news on Carson’s appeal dates; while grounds for appeal have been lodged his legal team hasn’t been finalised and as yet no application for bail pending appeal has been lodged with the courts either.

There has however been news of further arrests in Hong Kong on money laundering charges of people connected to the casino VIP rooms in Macau, as Carson was. The latest arrest centres around the wife of alleged triad boss Cheung Chi Tai, who was named as one of the depositors into Carson’s five accounts who has been arrested for laundering HK$200Million.
