BIHL Halt Trading In Shares

Birmingham International Holdings have announced to the stock exchange this morning a halt to trading in shares in the company.

The announcement made at 0855 HKT (155am BST) is a clear indication of news to be released that materially affects the way the company is run, and I presume foreshadows news of a preferred bidder being released today.

More as this story develops.

Edit 0415 BST 26 May

BIH confirm the trading halt is pending an announcement relating to price sensitive inside information of the company.

    Fingers crossed!

  • Aussiebrum says:

Also interesting a slightly higher volume of shares was traded pre suspension (12,000,000) with the share price off a bit further. This might be insiders selling as they are unhappy with the deal or what is more likely was it is short sellers scrambling to cover their positions. Hopefully we can start to focus on the football news rather than this rubbish really soon.

  • Richard Granfield says:

At last! Blues are back in business…potentially.

  • Chrisg says:

Dan, any ideas as to how long before an announcement is made?,

  • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

Great news Dan cheers. Looks like there could be a little embarrassment amongst the financial experts on here.

    Love it

  • mark says:

Any news which is factual could be good news…….kro

    • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

Can’t wait for all the boycotters and non renewers selling out the ground now that the old regime is on its way. Heres to lockouts every week.

Carson gone, Pannu gone, BIHL gone.

      No excuse

      • Chrisg says:

Paul, you do realize bihl are only selling a part of the club for now, which means they will be around for the foreseeable future

        • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

I do Chris but I would expect watertight agreements for a staged sale so off they go.

          • Pete says:

Nothing has happened yet, IF this means selling shares IT MIGHT go through, and then we MIGHT have a new shareholder who MIGHT be better than what we have now and it MIGHT see the others leave in the future.
I wish people would stop celebrating the fact we are back. Nothing has happened yet. Some idiots on here…

  • Pete says:

Shock horror…. Nothing on club website or Birmingham Evening Mail…

  • Bluenosesol says:

Thanks for the update Dan. I am no expert in financial and legal matters nor on assessing the impact such matters may or may not have on our club, so I am always grateful for your blog and the opportunity to listen to the views and opinions of yourself and other supporters who know a lot more about the subject than I do.

  • Richard Granfield says:

Informed source says a British consortium has won the bidding!

    • Pete says:

I don’t care where they are from so long as they have an agenda of moving club forwards and a means to do it. I had heard one consortium and pulled out, due to contractual issues (and it was headed by some well known blues fans including Jasper himself) but I am afraid I do not believe most sources anymore. So will hang fire on believing this just yet Richard. (No offence meant).

    • Luke Bowen says:

Without revealing your source, Richard, I would be interested to know what credentials they have to be an ‘informed source’.

I agree with Pete. British would be ideal, but vision and long-term stability are more important. We’ll find out fairly quickly how serious they are about changing the club’s fortunes when we see if there’s a change of manager or not.

    • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

      Its UKIP Rich :)

    • OftenPartisan says:

I think your informed source is wrong.

      • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

        Dan what do you know?

If you can’t post it publicly then mail me, usual address

        • OftenPartisan says:

          Paul

I wouldn’t tell you if I did know.

          • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

            Why not?

I reckon you know something maybe not everything but something.

          • bluearmyfaction says:

I wouldn’t tell anyone if I knew either. Either because of the risk of scuppering it all, or the most honourable reason that one should not blab secrets.

          • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

Private emails are a different matter but yes I wont be telling anyone ;)

          • SCoy says:

I do not believe there is much worry about your first point at this stage, but certainly your second point.

          • SCoy says:

Paul I am sure an announcement will be made within the next 24 hours.
Many reasons Dan could not realise that information.

      • tom says:

I heard that the althani family owners of malaga will be new owners

        • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

          What are they worth Tom?

          • tom says:

Around 5 billion . But who knows I was told that it was meant to be announced last Monday but nothing developed. Apparently they have agreed a deal to buy for 38 million time will tell

          • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

            5 Billion!!!

Obviously he wants to emulate Man City

You have just made my mind up for me, I am definitely having some champers and a cigar at noon :)

Richest club in the world status awaits

          • Roger says:

I think Malaga have been banned for not paying their bills, is this out of the frying pan? I hope not, it is the only bit of good news out of the club

          • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

            Think? Banned?

            More substance please Rog

          • Luke Bowen says:

            From Wiki – it’s a bit vague:

…Málaga was banned by UEFA, along with other clubs for its debts, so the agency in a statement declared that the club will be excluded from a subsequent competition, for which it would otherwise qualify, in the next four seasons. However, the ban was eventually downgraded to one season and the club was excluded from the 2013−14 Europa League.

          • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

Thats at odds with what Tom said. The geezer is worth £5 bill so why any debts?

          • OftenPartisan says:

You know Malaga are skint don’t you?

          • tom says:

I wouldn’t say there skint but I know where your coming from he wanted to develop the club like building new sports complex training ground and other stuff to do with malaga fc but was not able too hence the reason why he wants to sell .

          • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

            Even better!

He’s had enough of the little island going nowhere club and wants to come to the UKs second city to make his name.

Mr Al Thani welcome to Birmingham

          • Richard Granfield says:

Malaga is not situated on an island though.

          • AussieBlue says:

Australia is though mates! bl**dy big island but still an island. Oh, and a continent.

          • Lesley Palmer says:

If anyone has agreed to buy for £38m then there is going to something more to it than an ordinary sale.

          • tom says:

Apparently they want to buy the whole club not just shares thats y they’ve bid 38 time wll tell

          • Chris W says:

Quite a few billion, mainly deal in art but did offer £1.6 billion to the glaziers to buy Man U and tried to buy Rangers last year and offered a reported £2 billion to buy into Barcelona.
Have bought into the Shard, Heathrow and Harrods in recent years.

        • OftenPartisan says:

          Don’t bank on it.

    • Art says:

      Would that be daddies source?

  • Art says:

At last-the start of the beginning!

  • Bluenosesol says:

Guys, don’t you love it that we can all get together first thing on a Bank Holiday and chew the cud over our beloved Blues? – Brilliant Dan!!

    • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

Hey Sol allow yerself to dream a bit more and that the new owners have major money to spend in an all out attack on the Prem.

Serious dough could mean the start of something great for us.

      • Bluenosesol says:

Paul – Absolutely 100%, that is my dream. New owners, an investment strategy and 30,000 season ticket holders to roar us into the Prem!!

        • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

The only debate then would be whether to give Lee the money or get rid? I’d give him the chance personally.

          • Luke Bowen says:

Depends, to a certain extent, on who is available and willing to replace him. The more money the new owners have, the more I’d be inclined to start afresh.

          • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

Hey I don’t knock anyone for holding that view mate. Am sure even Lee himself couldn’t grumble too much if he got the elbow given the home record. The fair play streak in me says give him a chance though and I love his passion for the club. Also we definitely need some decent support in terms of coaching and assistant manager.

          • Luke Bowen says:

I respect that, but for me there’s the opportunity for new owners to make a statement about the club’s future, by changing the manager: a new start, turning the corner, aiming higher etc.
If LC is still in charge a couple of weeks after the takeover, there are plenty of Blues fans who’ll get the sinking feeling that nothing is really going to change.

          • Jim Brierley says:

Neil Lennon is coming, stand on it.

  • Keith Sykes says:

someone tell Macheda not to sign for cariff just yet, and wait a while

  • Chris W says:

Let us just hope it is a step in the right direction, not counting any chickens just yet but certainly got the champers on ice.
As we have learnt in the past with BIHL, not everything is as clear cut or straight forward.
If the British and Chinese are out of the running that leaves either the Australian or Middle east offers, some gut feeling tells me it is not going to be some rich sheik.
Still it gives us hope on a dull bank holiday Monday morning.

  • Mineheadblue says:

This could REALLY make my day!!!!!!!!!!

  • colin rees says:

It about 1700 in hong kong now. Shouldn’t we have heard something by now?

  • Luke Bowen says:

Well, with it coming up to 7pm in HK, I guess we’re not going to hear of any more announcements today. Maybe during the night… Champagne on ice…

  • Oldbluenose says:

amid all this speculation, [ excited as we ALL are ], We need to rein-in and await further news, Eh, !!.
If we are lucky that a buy-out is on the cards, PRAY, for a serious buyer who will re-structure the club,– ground, — academy, — and lead us gradually into the upper reaches again within a solid basis, ?. — End of sermon.

  • Luke Bowen says:

While we are waiting for news and, inevitably, speculating, it’d be interested to know what fellow blue noses are hoping for. Obviously we all want a better financial footing moving forwards, but to what degree?

For example, would you prefer a British-based group who are looking to invest at a Championship level and to grow the club organically, or a foreign billionaire who targets European football within three years?

From my point of view, whilst the latter sounds like a hoot, I can’t help feeling that it would devalue the journey we’ve all been on and make a mockery of the club’s heritage. I’d rather be supporting a new wave of Redmonds, Mutchs and Butlands fighting for the cause than an assembly of massively overpaid journeymen, diving for penalties and having tantrums when they don’t get a birthday cake.

    • Oldbluenose says:

I am with you fully, Luke.

    • Deebs says:

Completely agree with you Luke. I’d hope for a British based group or
failing that, the Ozzies as at least they understand sport and what it
means to the fans to build and sustain a solid legacy, rather than
merely using a club as a hobbie!

    • Chris W says:

Totally agree Luke, Man U, City, Chelsea may well have the trophy’s but the clubs have no soul, heart or passion, give me a team of homegrown talent with fire in their belly and devotion to the supporters any day.
Blues have always been an up and down team and every now and then a memorable day comes along. We have never been glory hunters and I wouldn’t want us to change, I’d sooner be an arsenal who thrive on their homegrown talent over the years. They have been successful under Wenger and produced some excellent players, Wilshire, Ramsey.
      KRO+DNM

      • Richard Granfield says:

With the greatest of respect, to say United, City and Chelsea have no soul.heart and passion is a distortion of the facts. And Aaron Ramsey was a produce of Cardiff’s youth system.

        • Chris W says:

I’ll take the correction on Aaron Ramsey, I new he was from Caerphilly, he was at school with my cousin. But I still believe that most of those who support the others are purely glory hunters and not your true passionate supporter as those who follow Blues and similar teams.

  • Euston 9:15. says:

wm had a phone call from a bloke in oz saying one of the bids was from the far east family who own malaga, the same family who tried to buy us before but sully told them to do one, back in 2010 ?

  • Gary says:

If all this is happening why have they still not said who it is talk about the secret society is this just another false dawn.

  • Guest says:

Completely agree with you Luke. I’d hope for a British based group or failing that, the Ozzies as at least they understand sport and what it means to the fans to build and sustain a solid legacy, rather than merely using a club as a hobbie.

  • SCoy says:

    The Kumars are back!

  • Oldbluenose says:

Or Ken Weldon, — Perhaps, ?.

  • Phill McCrackin says:

    Come on exciting times!!!

  • Agent McLeish says:

My mate who delivers bread to the club said that the bloke who scraps the chewing gum off the seats in the ground said that his third cousin saw a car that is the same colour as Pannus near to the Saudi embassy in London. He thinks that rich Arabs may be buying the club.

  • brumie4ever says:

hear the people who are buying the villa are buying us as well ….

  • Steve says:

Oh well, seems it’s nothing to get excited about.Just an offer and nothing else to report.Shares trading again tomorrow.

  • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

I would urge one and all to buy their season tickets as quick as possible before all the boycotters return. Waiting lists here we come.

    • Chris W says:

Are you trying to influence people to your beliefs?
Surely people have the right to make their own decisions, it is called a democracy
You accused me of such last night, you buy your ticket but let others to their own choices.
      KRO+DNM

      • Paul Carter - Voice of Reason says:

I will always urge fans to back the club unlike you trying to organise action against the club. Back the new owners people, no excuse now. The 30,000 stayawayers who went to Wembley will be back en masse and you may miss out. Lockouts, 1000s travelling away again. Cork here we come

        • Chris W says:

Unlike you I never urged any form of action, we have not got any new owners yet either.
I simply voiced MY intention, everyone else made their own minds up. Intelligent people do that.
          KRO+DNM

  • tom says:

Let’s not get all our hopes up but I heard that we will be took over and will be announced within the next 48 hours fingers crossed
