Fry Signs New Deal; Martin to Yeovil

Young defender James Fry has signed a new 12 month deal with Blues with a further 12 month option. Blues did have an option on him for the new season but have agreed fresh terms that potentially could extend his stay with the club for an extra 12 months.

The 19-year-old centre-half struggled with injuries last season, having damaged ligaments while on loan to Leamington in October 2013. It’s entirely feasible that had he not suffered with that knock he could have made his first team debut as his stock was high with Clark and on his return from injury he became skipper of the Development Squad team. Fry had the choice between careers in football and cricket having been on the books at Warwickshire and had to choose between the two at the age of 16.

With Blues still awaiting new investment tying Fry down for a longer period seems like a no-brainer; currently Blues only have Robinson tied down to a deal as a first-team centre half (although Jonathan Grounds and Jonathan Spector can both play there) and while there is no doubt that Fry is raw from what I’ve seen he has got the potential to follow Will Packwood in making the step up to the senior side. Even if someone does dump a truckload of cash into the coffers at St Andrew’s holding on to Fry means he is a saleable asset and if we end up not being desperate we can loan him out to a league club to continue his education.

In the mean time, former short-term signing at Blues Aaron Martin has signed for Yeovil of League One on a two-year deal following his release from St Andrew’s at the end of last season. 24-year-old Martin made eight appearances for Blues but failed to establish himself in the team and was edged out in favour of Tom Thorpe once the Manchester United loanee returned from injury.

  • mark says:

James fry agreed Daniel definitely worthy of a punt, he may even get a shout in preseason friendlies……. If he can stay injury free this will help his cause……….

  • dave mann says:

we just need the legend that his nicola zigic to sign up for a couple of years on 5k a week….that would make him very popular with all true blues fans alike and continue
    is legacy with blues. KRO.

  • Hong Kong Bluenose says:

just need packwood to resign and we could have a potential future of a blues centreback lineup of packwood and fry

  • Richard Granfield says:

Forgive me for going off topic for a moment, but what is the current stock market value of BIHL?
Lots of shares have been traded since the company was relisted and Aussie Blue seems to to calculate BIHL’s current worth at £56m.
Any financial analysts out there that can comment on this? The value of BIHL is crucial to any potential investment or takeover.

    • OftenPartisan says:

      Richard

You don’t need to be a financial analyst, it’s just maths. Aussie took the number of shares in existence and multiplied it by the value of shares. It’s as simple as that.

      • Bluestaines says:

So, assuming the HKSE listing in itself is worth around £30m – a figure I am sure I have seen quoted or suggested as its worth – then the club is worth something on the region of £26m? Or is that too simplistic

        • AussieBlue says:

Bluestaines – I thought along the same lines, but it’s more a case of ‘what the club owes BIHL to keep it solvent’ – without taking into account BIHL’s other minor activities; rag trading, entertainment and media (not forgetting laundry services). So, if the 32 million asking price is correct, it would deliver a bit more play money to BIHL. The real ‘worth’ of the club I believe to be much less than 26 or 32 million today if it is calculated on assets, liabilities, cash flow and all the things that a valuer would take into consideration. That leaves goodwill, brand value and willingness to buy as the premium. There is, after all, only one BCFC. Once we hear the results of the ‘consortia’s’ due diligence; if we do – it should reveal a proper valuation for the club.

          • Chris W says:

Morning Aus, I reckon once the “due diligence” is completed the consortia, love that word, will ride off into the sunset. I still think that there is a lot of skeletons to be found before this ends, hopefully, happy ever after, though I Doubt it will.

          • AussieBlue says:

Evenin’ Chris, I share the same concern but we don’t really know how good a job Pavlakis & Co have done on the books and restructuring. His job was to find investors and he’s smart enough to know savvy investors don’t like skelligtons.
That said, even huge American companies can get stung in acquisitions…HP bought UK company Autonomy in 2010 for GBP7 BILLION. In February this year, HP wrote down the value of the acquisition by GBP5.5 BILLION! citing ‘accounting irregularities and possible fraud’ as the reason – it’s all being contested of course but serves as a warning that due diligence must be thorough and forensic in its accounts investigations.

          • Chris W says:

Hi Aus, you having problems with OP, had a message that I sent to you removed?

          • AussieBlue says:

No Chris…Dan had a problem with Disqus, the people who host the discussion software. I had a benign comment put on hold for moderation too. Just a glitch I am sure…unless your name is Voice of Reason!

          • Chris W says:

Been called a few names in my time voice of reason wasn’t one of them. They might pick out key words then and check. It was just a follow up re skeletons, I’ll see if it comes through later.

            Chris

You have to remember I can’t monitor comments all the time – I do what I can, but Disqus can be a little bit funny

          • Chris W says:

No worries Dan, They may pick on key words, I do try not to be confrontational or argumentative. If I was I apologise.
            KRO+DNM

      • Richard Granfield says:

So how much is BCFC worth?

        • Fortinbras says:

What someone will pay for it. A good deal less than the figures that have been touted, I would guess. 56 million is ridiculous. Perhaps HK investors have more faith in BIH than we do.

  • Chris W says:

A good deal providing he can stay injury free. It would be ideal if Will packwood would sign too and maybe they can form the kind of partnerships we have had in the past, Burn/Bartley, Danns/Johnson etc. We need to build partnerships that can take the club forward and not just sell them on.
    KRO+DNM

    • Oldbluenose says:

That is the reason we need GOOD new owners, in order to keep emerging talent and not have to lose the likes of Mutch, Butland and Redmond, !!.

    • mark says:

Yes chris , not sure why he not signed? I am sure he disappointed about not making united states WC roster. Maybe too soon for him?. But he has done extremely well coming from where he was 14 months ago…. Like you I hope Clark can persuade him to continue with his football education with us, and he signs maybe a two year contract……….kro

      • Chris W says:

I’m just thinking he is holding out to see what transpires, if things stay the same he might look elsewhere. He did exceptionally well and I would like to see him with someone like Bartley, but with maybe Robbo and young Fry it would allow Caddis and Mitch to push further forward, meaning we can defend higher up the field in a more attacking formation.
We will need another Macheda or noted goalscorer as we are light in that area too, even if Ziggy does re-sign.

    • Jake says:

Spot on. I think it’s perfect timing now to start building a stable squad for now and push ourselves forward in the coming seasons in the way that Swansea and Southampton have.

      • Chris W says:

To excellent examples, both play exciting football with emphasis on youth and the odd experienced old hand.
        KRO+DNM

        • mark says:

They are great examples by jake , but this take time sadly if our own fans don’t buy into there we are now, and except these changes will not happen overnight or happen in the next few years…our team needs the support by those who are willing to put their best foot forward…..until those are ever implemented. By this it assist our club moving forward. I personally glad we have signed grounds, and hope further movement next week….

          • Chris W says:

If the fans see moves in the right direction they will follow. With last seasons home record did the fans get on the players back?
They understood the problems but never blamed the players.
What we need first and foremost is for the sale to become a reality and as soon as possible, mainly to give the new people a chance to show their intentions.
            KRO+DNM

          • mark says:

Not meant to be sarcastic like Daniel said it crystal ball time..but that does not stop us been fans and continuing our support…..we have to except a different culture way of business dealing….

          • Tony says:

You mean carry on being suckers

          • mark says:

I look at different way , whether you like or not they are here to stay, two years and possibly longer… You really do need to get over it, maybe you should try bingo for a change….I am only considering health……I do really think Barnsley game took a lot out of you…..ever thought of quitting the blues altogether…..just thought…..

  • EddieBirmingham says:

its refreshing that everyone is encouraging young players coming thru.
compared to previous seasons where we sold all talent coming thru and feared another Redmond or BUtland on the chance of if they are any good “how much can we sell them for” attitude

its a long long road and we’re getting there

    • Chris W says:

I think all supporters like to see players growing with the club, unfortunately we have had a board that doesn’t care and was intent on selling everyone and anything. Thankfully this era should soon be over and we can return to youth and development and get some benefit from some decent starlets.
      KRO+DNM

      • EddieBirmingham says:

do you think we could ever get Redmond or Mutch back? or is it when you’ve gone then you’ve gone

        • Chris W says:

I rather fear they will come back this season and, as with most players we let go, and haunt us.
It would be nice to see them back but until our ownership is sorted we will still be shopping at the bargain basements.
          KRO+DNM

    • AussieBlue says:

So true Eddie…and good to be talking about football and the future here again, although the ownership issue is still important.

    • Guest says:

do you think we could ever get Redmond or Mutch back?

  • Staffs Blue says:

Looks like Wes Thomas might be signing the next few days, according to the BM.

    • mark says:

You been gone 2months must have been a long holiday lol

      • Staffs Blue says:

I wish. Nah, been without a computer since March. Doesn’t look like I’ve missed much. lol

        • mark says:

Sorry to here that…..wes return well he fits in our wage structure….this should get some bite off that news lol ……maybe need a suicide watch lol

          • Staffs Blue says:

I think the squad this season might be described as ‘Cheap & Cheerful.’ Hopefully, if he does sign, he might strike up a partnership with Matt Green. Fingers crossed.

          • mark says:

Aldi instead of your top four superstores they be calling it……..but I like aldi lol

          • Chris W says:

Not sure about aldi, took the missus for a look round our local as she said they had some bargains. £72 later I asked what was the bargain, she said “You like trout it was only £1:49… I’ve suddenly gone off trout.

          • mark says:

Don’t worry Chris you buy into it lol

          • Chris W says:

I’ll stick with lidl’s and B&M from now on, roll on the new season… “I’m a Blues supporter, get me out of here”… shopping that is

          • mike b says:

            thanks…a laugh …just what we need….

          • Chris W says:

It’s close season, we all need a laugh, i don’t mind at my expense, roll on next week and world cup fever. I hope LC is there snapping some third world gems.
            KRO+DNM

          • beegeeblueboy says:

You misspelt. Surely you meant ‘third rate’

          • Chris W says:

I don’t know, remember Roger Miller of Cameroon, a character who knew where the net was a few years back.
We have had Alberto Tarrantini and not forgetting that great world cup star…… everyones (Not mine) hero and legend Nikola Zigic.
Yea, maybe you’re right third rate…
            KRO+DNM

    • Chris W says:

Welcome back Staffs, enjoy your world cruise, must have won the lottery, you one of these secret consortiums buying the club…?
I remember he scored two v Derby. Played well holding the ball alongside King. Never been a prolific scorer but might do well with Novak. It has had its moments without you, daresay you can catch up.
      KRO+DNM

      • Staffs Blue says:

Cheers Chris! Well, when I went offline, people were complaining about the owners, about Lee Clark and about freebies and loans…. oh.. and there was talk about a takeover. Are you sure I’ve been away? ;)

        • Chris W says:

I reckon you’ll soon slot back in then, still much the same except LC seems to left alone at the moment.
One or two have had a moan about the grounds signing, but we have to cut our cloth accordingly, and under the circumstances we should count ourselves lucky to still have some cloth, frayed as it might be.
          KRO+DNM

          • Staffs Blue says:

I think Grounds might turn out to be a decent signing.. if only for the fact that he’s played 106 games in 2 years. I don’t think all our left backs have managed that put together have they? I’m not going to criticise any new player until they’ve been given a chance. (glad Senderos is going to Villa though)

          • Chris W says:

The way we get through left backs better sign a few more.
Should be fun across the way Sendros in defence and keane coaching, relegation favourites if ever I saw one.
            KRO+DNM

          • Staffs Blue says:

I’m just hoping they sign Leon Barnett too.. then I might put a couple of bob on them going down. :)

          • Chris W says:

If they get Jerome bound to be odds on.
I quite liked him when he signed for the Baggies, good championship player but lacks pace for the premiership.
            KRO+DNM

Daniel you not noted Mullins signed a one year deal with notts county..:-)
