Adeyemi Out?

Sky Sports News reported last night that midfielder Tom Adeyemi had put in a transfer request to leave Birmingham City. The 22-year-old former Norwich man was said to have asked for a transfer in the wake of the interest in his services by Cardiff City. The Bluebirds are set to lose former Blues midfielder Jordon Mutch to QPR today for a fee said to be not far short of £6million.

As you can imagine, the news Adeyemi allegedly wants out hit Twitter like a storm last night. There was the inevitable reactions of despair from fans who thought things were more on an even keel; ones who were “disgusted” by the midfielder’s alleged attitude and “insulted” by the timing of the news and then there were the fans (and I fit into this category) who have accepted that it’s inevitable that a player who has done well might want to go to a club who is going to pay him more money.

When it comes down to it, having been made vice-captain or not, Adeyemi is on no more than £5k per week at Blues – probably as “little” as £3k – £4k. With Cardiff City having millions of parachute money to splurge, it’s inevitable his head is going to be turned by the prospect of tripling if not quadrupling his wages to join a club that will be more than likely at the right end of the table – even if it’s to sit on the bench to begin with. As much as it burns that we’re in danger of losing a player many of us hadn’t heard of when he signed this is the nature of the beast – we wouldn’t be complaining about lack of loyalty if it was us picking off the carcass of a wounded club and we wouldn’t be complaining if it was ourselves with the prospect of such a massive hike in our own salaries.

All that being said, I get the feeling that if Adeyemi has put in a transfer request it’s because we’ve already rejected a bid – and that would mean Blues are in a better position to deal with a predatory bid for the player than they were before. I would hope that Panos Pavlakis as the man in the hotseat wouldn’t do anything as brainless as saying that he would reject all but “eye-popping” offers before accepting one for half of a previous offer six months later as Peter Pannu did with Jack Butland. My own feeling is Adeyemi is worth maybe as much as £2million – but then I am also aware that there is only a year left on his deal (although there could be an option in place and as Adeyemi would be under 24 next summer would still command compensation) that might be brought down a bit by circumstance.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens; if Adeyemi goes it might be chance for Reece Brown to continue his impressive form and stake a claim for a more regular place in midfield; alternatively I would hope Clark has been thinking of some sort of replacements he can target – and with Adeyemi showing he can spot a player who he can make money on down the line – maybe this time we can trust him to bring someone in on a permanent basis to repeat the success?

Is it true or just Sky Sports rumour?

  • Agent McLeish says:

Just proves again that LC can spot talent. Can’t blame the lad for wanting to move on but it has to be on the clubs terms. Hopefully any money comes LCs way and does not get fluttered away on ‘consultancy’ fees. Can’t see why some fans are getting emotional about it, it’s just part and parcel of the game.

    • Geoff S says:

The club website carries a statement this morning concerning how Blues have received an approach for Tom Adeyemi but the approach has been rejected (for now).

    • Dave Clamp says:

i think the answer to the reaction is in the timing . just as we were getting the feelgood factor surrounding the team again we get this . its not an ideal time to start looking for players and adeyemi is an integeral part of the squad however if he wants out let him go we dont need players who dont want to play for the badge

      • Staffs Blue says:

That’s the only reason I’m annoyed a bit. Leaving it right until the eve of the season and after he’d been made vice-captain. The player has no decency. This is bound to upset plans to a certain extent.

I’m not that bothered about him actually leaving to be honest, he’s a limited player from what I’ve seen… but, as long as we’re not ripped off again.

        • dave mann says:

hes been approached by Cardiff staffs to replace mutch so though the timeings not good that’s not is fault….he has to look after no 1 and is family and earning more than double in wages and going to a team that’s got more chance according to most experts of getting promoted is better for him….theres no loyalty in football and him not being from these parts its not his problem to leave blues for Cardiff…..that’s the way it is. KRO,

          • Staffs Blue says:

I’m not so arsed about him leaving to be honest dave, for me, he’s limited and Gleeson is better imo. But, as someone said earlier, it’s the timing and the fact he had the cheek to ask for a transfer. With BIHL’s history with selling players, it was nailed on that they’d accept an offer within the next few days anyway. But to actually demand to leave, nah, leaves a bad taste.

          • Richard Granfield says:

Staffs….If the club reject Cardiff’s offer then Adeyemi has no recourse other than to hand in a transfer request.

          • Staffs Blue says:

The club has every right to reject an offer and expect the player to honour his contract. Not that players ever do, but the club isn’t in the wrong rejecting the offer.

          • tmsblues says:

Yep, I think some fans just don’t get it. Tom has stopped all the usual messing around and got straight to the bottom line. Let him go and get the best deal possible. Why do otherwise with someone who’s heads elsewhere? It’s modern football. As for timing it’s perfect. We haven’t kicked a ball in the league yet and there’s almost a month to find a replacement or promote his successor which I think LC believes will be Edgar.

          • dave mann says:

what do you reckon Cardiff offered and how much do you think were sell him for ?……I reckon they offered 2m and blue want 3/3.5 m. KRO.

          • Staffs Blue says:

Nah, they’ll think like they did with Mutch and offer a mill. We need to hold out for at least £1.5/2m.

          • Geoff S says:

Staffs. I agree with your analysis of this Adeyemi business but where will the transfer money being talked of end up?

          • Staffs Blue says:

It has to go on a decent replacement, or at least some of it.

          • Geoff S says:

I would certainly not disagree. However, where did the transfer monies received for the likes of Butland, Jerome, Foster, Roger Johnson, Dann, Gardner, Ridgewell, Redmond and a few others go?

          • Staffs Blue says:

A very deep pocket… commonly referred to as “the back of the sofa.”

          • Chas says:

This has ben done to death. If you read some of Dan’s old Blogs you will see where the money went. The Players didn’t play for love of Blues.

          • Geoff S says:

Chas. I never said the players did play for the love of Blues. Are you hinting that the owners have carried out correct financial accounting?

          • Chas says:

No Geof, I am saying that the money we got in went on paying to keep the Club running, as Dan has explained many times.

          • Geoff S says:

Many people think there is a lot more to it than that.

          • Chas says:

Geof, I suggest you re-read what I wrote. You are miles off and I don’t see how you managed to come to that conclusion. The Players had the money, is that clear enough for you?

          • Geoff S says:

I have read what you wrote and do not agree. Is that clear enough for you? You also avoided dealing with the points about whether or not you defend the current owners of BCFC and whether or not you believe they can be said to have carried out correct financial accounting.

Furthermore, I note that you cannot even do me the basic courtesy of spelling my name correctly so goodbye.

          • Chris W says:

I think Cardiff offered less than £1m but Blues want at least £1.5. Can’t see Tam paying the full price, like PP he is a law unto himself when it comes to Cardiff.

          • Steve says:

Adeyemi isn’t half the player Mutch is,is he Dave ? If that’s why Cardiff want him it’s poor management imo.

          • Staffs Blue says:

That may be because they have a poor manager?

          • dave mann says:

i agree steve….see we can have the same opinions and agreements, put it there pal. KRO.

      • Geoff S says:

        Dave.

You are right about the timing. Staffs Blue has mentioned the possibility of tapping up going on and that would make sense. The BCFC website carries a statement this morning to say the offer from a Championship club (Cardiff) and Adeyemi’s transfer request have both been rejected.

I don’t think those rejections will hold once bids are firmed up and players’ first loyalty is to their bank balances.

  • Blueboy88 says:

The lad has a chance to better himself & play in a team challenging for the premiership, so good luck to him.
Lets negotiate the best fee we can & move on.

  • stu123456789 says:

It is not always the players fault when a transfer request is handed in. Many clubs insist on players putting in transfer requests when they are selling their star player. It prevents a fans backlash against the club and the player loses any rights to a loyalty bonus

  • dave mann says:

adeyemi as done ok but wont be a great miss in my eyes…..I said yesterday ide start with Gleeson and brown in the middle from what ive seen so far so good luck to him and lets hope we finish above Cardiff. KRO.

    • Staffs Blue says:

That’s not a bad aim dave. Finish above Cardiff and see where that leaves us…. although, with Solskjaer in charge, who knows where that will be.

  • ChattsBlue says:

Are we due some money then from Jordon Mutch moving to QPR? A lot was said of a good sell on clause being put in place when we sold. How much of it will go to Pannu?

  • Neil Talbot says:

I’ve no problem with the lad moving on, but I do with him requesting a transfer. I don’t recall Butland, Redmond or indeed any of the previous players we sold actually asking for a transfer. If he’s good enough, then someone will pay what he’s worth. No need to antagonise the fans by angling for the move.
In any case, the relationship between him and the fans has gone now, so strip him of the vice captaincy and banish him to the reserves. I’d rather see us play players who want to be here.

    • Staffs Blue says:

Even if he isn’t sold in the next week or so, he should get nowhere near the first team squad now. Handing in a request shows no respect for his team mates. We have better players anyway, so he won’t be missed as far as the team is concerned.

      • chudlt says:

        He is our best player.

        • Steve says:

No way is he our best player. I,m with Staffs on this. What does he actually do? The only talk about him has been about his potential. I can’t see it myself.Good luck to him,but lets not get involved in a long drawn out situation. Sell him and move on.

        • Chris W says:

Is he? He has improved in the last season, but I am not sure he can play with Edgar who is more experienced, he is often caught in two minds so often goes for the easier sideways pass instead of a probing forward ball.
He still has a long way to go to be a great player and over the weekend we mentioned many players who turned out to be greats or legends at Blues and Tom Adeyemi didn’t come into any of those mentioned.
          KRO+DNM

          • The Timms says:

Started poorly last season but he quickly improved with game time. We really did miss him over the second part of the season when he was injured. We definitely would’ve finished higher had he not got injured. His sale will be a loss for sure.

          • Chris W says:

Not so sure, I think the loss of Bartley and Burn were were bigger and culminated more to our decline in the second half of the season. We missed an holding midfielder and Reilly never came up to scratch and it beggars the question as to what did Scott Allen to be left in the cold for almost the whole season.
This season LC seems to have covered this position with Edgar and Cotterill being able to play the hold midfield position.
            KRO+DNM

          • Geoff S says:

Irrespective of how this Adeyemi business pans out, I don’t think it is beyond the realms of possibility that a loanee or two may come in over the next period.

          • Chris W says:

I would like to think the money raised would be used on a permanent deal rather that of a loanee.
A loan would not send a good message to those who have been signed, unless it is a big name player.
LC had said he had concluded his business for the summer but this has opened up a new ball game I suppose, if TA is sold that is.
            KRO+DNM

          • Geoff S says:

Fair point. However, didn’t Clark say something about his business being finished for the Summer before Johnstone and Nasseri were signed? Or have I got my timeline mixed up?

          • Chris W says:

He did say he was considering one more but only if the right player became available, he also said he was looking for a left-footed wide player, which had everyone suspecting Ibe as a loan option.
So all in all he kept his options open, both Johnstone and Nasseri are bought in under the youth programme I think, though they have both been given squad numbers.
            KRO+DNM

          • Geoff S says:

Johnstone has 16 but I’ve not been able to locate Nasseri’s squad number.

          • Chris W says:

I thought I read somewhere that Nasseri was being given a squad number when he arrives and has his fitness assessed. I might be wrong.
            KRO+DNM

          • Geoff S says:

BCFC website does not list Navid Nasseri in the squad as yet so perhaps this fitness thing needs sorting out.

          • Chris W says:

Just looked back and he has been signed predominantly for the development side. But there is nothing stopping him moving up if he is good enough, especially if Adeyemi moves on.
            KRO+DNM

    • Richard Granfield says:

In Butland and Redmonds cases they did not want to leave, but the club had to sell them due to lack of funds.
In Adeyemi’s case it’s the reverse. Adeyemi wants to leave but the club doesn’t want him to go hence the transfer request…simples.

      • tmsblues says:

That’s the point I think you were making before Richard ie this kind of football business works both ways. Blues disposed of players against their will to meet their financial needs . Tom is simply forcing the issue in reverse. So fans should get over it ! Let him go and replace him from within or a transferee.

  • Staffs Blue says:

The player could have gone to TPTB and said, “I feel I could further my career at ????, I’d like permission to talk to the bidding club please.”

I think fans would have respected that, but to hand in a transfer request is a slap in the face to the club, the coaching staff, the other players and the fans.

    • Staffs Blue says:

Note to Lee Clark: Pick a new vice-captain today and let’s move on.

    • tmsblues says:

I think the request is just part of the transfer game being played out. He drops his sale fee rights with us to ‘help us financially’. All he’s doing is cutting to the chase. Sell him and get the Best deal possible. He’s an OK midfielder but he’s not Robbie Savage and we certainly don’t want a Robbie Savage transfer saga. Sell him and wish him well, what’s the point of doing otherwise when the financial (and apparent prospects) gap is so great.

      • Staffs Blue says:

I said yesterday, I’m still no wiser as to what he actually brings to the team. Is he a holding player, or an attacking player? Most of the time, he runs around like a headless chicken. I’m neither here nor there about him leaving, it’s just the way…. not dissimilar to Savage handing in a request once someone else came sniffing around. Only difference is, Savage was a big loss.

        • tmsblues says:

Savage love him or hate him was one of the best team driving, crowd motivating midfield players I’ve seen in a Blues shirt. Wish we had one like him now but it isn’t Adeyemi ! Perhaps its a cunning Chinese plan … and BIHL awash with all these transfer and convertible bonds funds, will splash the cash on Lampard as our marquee signing for the season?!

          • dave mann says:

he would always be in my all time 11 tmsblues, savage was everything adeyemi is not and was a massive lost when he decided he wanted to live with mark hughes in Blackburn and look after his sick parents…..seriously what would we do to have someone like him now. KRO.

        • tmsblues says:

I agree this Adeyemi business is ”Mutch ado about nothing” (other than a couple of million!)

  • tmsblues says:

I don’t think it’s surprising really, it would appear to have been on the cards since Cardiff were reportedly interested a few weeks ago. LC made him Vice Captain as a gesture to persuade him he was in the right place but he’s hardly going to turn down £15k pw versus his package at St Ans. I think the squad had already been built with Tom’s departure in mind. Now he’s waved his golden goodbye rights (albeit small ones which is why its no sacrifice for Tom) BCFC is in a stronger position. He wants to go so why try to stop him, we are not into matching his salary on offer and the die is cut. Its now an opportunity to get the best deal possible. First collect a £m or so sell on fee for Mutch and then get as near to £2m for Adeyemi.. and oh dear BIHL will again convince themselves that this football club ownership is easy ! Simples…

    • Staffs Blue says:

Fair comment. My only querie with that, would be if the squad had already been built with his departure in mind… why play him against Callie? Why not play his replacement? That’s why, for me, it seems like something has gone on since Saturday.

      • tmsblues says:

Yep Mutch has got his QPR deal and so Tom’s agent gets the call from Cardiff. You play him against Callie because LC is still trying to show him that he’s his first choice! Play Gleeson, Brown or LC has been talking up Edgar and Caddis as possible midfielders… maybe that was part of the planning for TA’s departure?

        • Staffs Blue says:

For me, Edgar is the important one. Build the midfield around him. He’s probably the only player at the club who knows what it takes for a club to climb the table towards the top. Use that experience.

  • Richard Granfield says:

Some fans need to live in the real world. There is no loyalty neither by clubs to players nor players to clubs, it is a business like any other. If Adeyemi can command a salary of £20k per week instead of £5k then good luck to him.
Clubs are willing to let players go if they are deemed not good enough, so in turn if a player does well he should better himself if he can.
No club is immune from the market. Cardiff has lost Caulker, Campbell, Medel and Mutch due to relegation.
I hope Blues will negotiate a fair price for Adeyemi and I wish him luck in his career.

    • tmsblues says:

Much as I dislike the way football is nowadays you are absolutely right Richard!

    • Geoff S says:

The chances of Blues smoothing things over with Adeyemi can almost certainly be completely discounted.

The timing of all this sticks in the craw and tends to show what Adeyemi really wants and thinks and, although the approach from Cardiff and the player’s transfer request have both been rejected for the time being, an offer will surely be firmed up and maybe fans should ponder what these wretched owners will do with the transfer figure I believe they will accept sooner or later.

      • Chris W says:

I agree that an offer will be signed sealed and delivered now, that is inevitable. It is what will happen to any monies received, it has to go back to LC for a replacement, though I doubt he will see any of it.
        KRO+DNM

        • Geoff S says:

I mentioned to Staffs earlier that none of the considerable amount of transfer monies received for the likes of Butland, Jerome, Roger Johnson, Dann, Gardner, Redmond, Foster and a few others certainly don’t appear to have reinvested in the club’s playing squad and this merely underlines the nature of the current owners.

          • Alex T says:

to be fair Geoff (and dont get me wrong, I hate BIHL and Pannu as much as anyone), the sale of all of the above were to keep the club afloat as our wage bill was still massive. Our current situation seems to be quite stable and any extra income could possibly be used for investement rather than ‘keeping the lights on’

    • dave mann says:

      fair enough. KRO.

    • Chas says:

Very good summing up there RG , as is Daniel’s reading of the situation. I wonder if we had a sell on clause when we sold Mutch , anyone know ?

    • Steve says:

      I think he’s on a lot less than £5k.

  • Chris W says:

I think it is all down to his agent, he can see a killing and making a few bucks for himself.
Am I right that by asking for a transfer the player or agent have to be informed of the details when an offer is made, otherwise if an offer is made the club, out of common courtesy, only have to say they had received an offer which they have rejected?
We can’t compete with the big hitters or the clubs that have been relegated other than offer regular football.
Obviously this will anger some fans because he is a decent player who the fans have endeared too.
There is a right way to do things and I’m afraid that Adeyemi has gone about this all wrong in both attitude and timing.
    KRO+DNM

    • tmsblues says:

Of course its his agent running the show Chris because officially Tom can’t talk to Cardiff. I actually think he is being transparent and honest from the start. The timing too is fine for me he is getting things done before the season not on August 31st! If it were me (or you?) in his shoes I’d follow the money too! and do whatever my agent advised to get to the new Club asap.

      • Chris W says:

Maybe, but it still irks, I disagree with his honesty, if he said he had the opportunity to make more money and I would like to take that up then he is being honest and transparent. As Staffs pointed out, something or someone changed his view over the weekend or even yesterday because he was more than happy to lead the side on Saturday.
        KRO+DNM

        • Richard Granfield says:

Chris W…..I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the transfer request was placed on the day Mutch’s transfer to QPR was agreed. Cardiff received the fee and and used some of it to bid for Tom A.

          • Chris W says:

Didn’t Cardiff put in an offer before the Mutch sale was completed which started all this gossip off they then put in an official bid yesterday which was declined.
            KRO+DNM

  • Auld Bertie says:

Bye bye! We don’t want any player not 100% committed to the club. Let him rot in the stiffs and hold out for as much as we can get. And no I don’t blame him for wanting to better his income etc but let’s treat him with the same disdain as he has treated us with.

  • Matt says:

Get as much money and let him go, he’s a decent player but lacks a good touch and his reading of the game isn’t great imo. As said previously Redmond & Butland would have been more than happy to stay, if it wasn’t for the clubs dire need for money and they were much greater prospects (even playing for England U21). Get another holding mid in with the money we will get for Adeyemi and Mutch, or let Edgar, Gleeson, Brown and Reilly battle it out for the two holding midfielder roles.

    • Staffs Blue says:

Clark sounds very pragmatic about it all.

      • Blueboy88 says:

We can get some good money from Cardiff for sales of both Mutch & Adeyemi .
Used wisely we could bring in a midfield general & maybe Butland on loan, which would put us in a much better place for the new season.

        • Staffs Blue says:

A good call. As I’ve already said, I don’t think losing Adeyemi will make that much difference, but another body on board wouldn’t do any harm.

    • Steve says:

I must be missing something about him.I can’t see him getting a move to the prem.

      • Chris W says:

Might do well at Burnley or even Leicester, but can’t see any of the big clubs coming in for him, not yet, he still has a lot to learn.
        KRO+DNM

      • Geoff S says:

Maybe that’s Clark talking Adeyemi’s abilities up to try and see if Cardiff can be made to cough up a higher transfer figure when what I believe to be the inevitable happens and the current Blues number 24 moves on.

        • Staffs Blue says:

Sorry Geoff… I’ve tried to reply to you twice… but Disqus has deleted the comment twice.

          • Geoff S says:

That Disqus thing again? I don’t know what is causing it. That said, it sounds as though it may be an intermittent problem or fault because the comment you sent about 5 minutes ago (which I am now replying to) did not get deleted.

          • Staffs Blue says:

Whenever a comment is deleted, I try another couple of times, but it just disappears again. I halved one comment yesterday and it still disappeared. I’ve had 2 go AWOL so far today.

          • Geoff S says:

I’ve just had a (very brief) look on the Disqus website. It is just a thought but, if you haven’t already done so, you could email them at press@disqus.com (the only email address I could find for them) and ask their IT people what they think may be causing this deletion problem.

Geoff S, The wagger men, !!. Got caught once, Teacher gave me ” Six of the best, with her cane “, Dad gave me a right lecture and No going out to play for a few nights,

          • Staffs Blue says:

In those days, you were often punished twice for the same misdemeanor. If you cheeked a neighbour, they’d give you a clip round the ear or a kick up the arris. Then they’d tell your Dad and you’d get it again. Ahh, the good old days. lol

          • Oldbluenose says:

That also applied at school, Some teachers did not have canes, So if you were a bad boy, !!. You were sent to a teacher that had one, and smack, – that was for asking for the cane, then you got another from the original teacher !. Happy days.

          • Staffs Blue says:

      • tmsblues says:

Its Clark speak he thinks everyone has great potential one week or another. Its usually just before he drops em !

  • Staffs Blue says:

In all honesty, I don’t think Adeyemi will be missed that much, we have other players who can do just as good a job, or better. But, at least some of the money received should, at the very least, be put aside in an emergency fund, to bring in a player in case of injuries and such. A couple of hundred grand could avoid the problems we had last season.

  • […] to get as much money as possible, that’s what we should do.  As my friend Daniel Ivery stated on Often Partisan, I think £2m is a fair fee for the midfielder and that’s the minimum we should hold out for, […]

  • RichardM says:

Last year I think he shone in a poor team, but is way off being the finished article. I think it’s a bad move for him personally, because I can’t see him being anything other than a squad player at Cardiff, which will further hinder his development. Shame, because I think he has potential, but if he doesn’t want to be here we don’t want him here either. Let’s just hope LC gets given some of the money to buy a replacement – maybe the 6’5″ young Tamworth centre-back who is on trial and highly rated – but would command a transfer fee might be feasible now.

  • dave mann says:

nick townsends gone back to Lincoln on loan for the season….does that mean that another goalies being lined up to put pressure on Randolph like so many fans want to see ? ….KRO.

    • Geoff S says:

I wondered about that a day or so ago but with the news that Townsend is off on loan, it might increase the likelihood. Is there recall clause on Townsend’s loan agreement with Lincoln?

      • Staffs Blue says:

I would think it would be a straight fight between Randolph and Doyle, with maybe Callum Preston as back up. I do have a hunch though, that Townsend may be being lined up for next season.

        • Geoff S says:

Maybe Preston could have been given some match experience in the pre-season friendlies.

          • Staffs Blue says:

Was he not away with the academy in Holland?

          • Geoff S says:

I don’t know. If he was, he clearly ain’t in Clark’s immediate plans.

          • Chris W says:

Wasn’t he on the bench a Notts County?
Looked rather young to have been Nick Townsend?
            KRO+DNM

          • Richard Granfield says:

It was Conal Trueman on the bench at Nott’s.

          • Chris W says:

Thought he looked too young to be Nick Townsend.
Not seen much of either the other two to be honest.
            KRO+DNM

          • Geoff S says:

I don’t know the answers to some of the questions posed here. However, the fact is that Blues may have five goalkeepers on the books (Randolph, Doyle, Townsend, Preston and Trueman) but at least three of them have no first team experience. The young players have to be given a chance at some point.

          • Chris W says:

I think Nick Townsend could be given a game, depending on how seriously we are taking the cups, but for the other two they need to learn their trade first.
A mistake by a keeper usually ends up in the net, whether it be hesitation, positioning or a simple fumble it usually gets punished.
            KRO+DNM.

          • Oldbluenose says:

Richard G;, It seems as we have some promising young keepers, if they all achieve, ?.

        • dave mann says:

hows about playing Randolph and doyle in goals together and having a 3-2-3-1 infront of them ? would stop a lot of arguments and goals!!………ONLY JOKING!!!!!! KRO.

          • Staffs Blue says:

Two Irishmen in goal. Novelty! Shay Given might get jealous. :-)

          • Geoff S says:

Get as many ‘keepers as necessary to stop ’em shipping in too many goals…

          • Chris W says:

One for crosses, free kicks and long shots (Doyle) and one for shot stopping (Randolph) they could alternate ball distribution as they are both poor in that department.
            KRO+DNM

          • Geoff S says:

This discussion on Blues ‘keepers seems to point to the situation where maybe a new face is needed between the sticks. I wonder what Lee Clark’s goalkeeping coach John Vaughan thinks…

          • Chris W says:

I think we have had better goalkeeping coaches, John Vaughan spent most of his career scratching around the lower divisions and is infamous for letting in 10 goals whilst playing for Fulham against liverpool. in a cup match.
He might be good with the academy players but I think both Doyle and Randolph would benefit from someone like Maik Taylor, more experienced at the higher level. Which leads me to believe Randolph will not have improved on last seasons weaknesses as proved on Saturday.
            KRO+DNM

          • Geoff S says:

Am I correct in thinking the manager appoints goalkeeping coaches?

          • Oldbluenose says:

I think that is correct, Geoff s, As with all other coaching staff,
I have been pounding my tired brain to remember the goalie coach we had when Joe, [ Man/city and England ]. and Ben Foster, were both with us, ?.

          • beegeeblueboy says:

Dave Watson. Now England goalie coach

          • Geoff S says:

Beegee has answered that question for you, OBN and Joe Hart may have been the ‘keeper you mentioned. It does not sit well having a bloke who shipped in 10 in one match between the sticks coaching current goalkeepers.

Chris W put in a shout for Maik Taylor as a possible goalkeeping coach so who knows?

          • Chris W says:

And John Vaughan was at Huddersfield when LC went there.
Before he came to Blues we had Dave Watson who was forced to retire early through injury. He is currently GC at Southampton.
            KRO+DNM

      • Staffs Blue says:

Apparently, “Blues will have the option to recall the academy graduate between January 4 and 31, 2015 if needed.”

    • Chris W says:

I think it means we have just Randolph and Doyle competing with maybe Callum Preston stepping up for cup games on the bench.
      KRO+DNM

  • Jazzzy786 says:

Adeyemi is a decent player and unfortunately we are in a poor bargaining position should any club come in for any of our players. However its nothing new as Blues did the same many times when we had money. This will open up opportunities for other players in our squad such as Reece Brown and Callum Reilly. if someone offered to double your wages you too would be vying for a move no matter how long you had worked at a place so not really a surprise.

  • Euston 9:15. says:

    Catch 22 “Part 2”
    Blues start well 2 or 3 young players stand out,January “bye~bye” !!

    • Staffs Blue says:

Well, if a player wants to leave, there’s not much you can do to stop them these days. The only part that this club falls down on, is negotiating the best price for a player.

  • Staffs Blue says:

Jordan Mutch has joined QPR on a 4 year deal. If they get 2 years out of him before he moves on, they’ll have done well.

    • Chris W says:

Depends on whether they get relegated or not.
I still reckon that players of relegated clubs should remain at the club they are relegated with until the first transfer window and on reduced wages.
How many jobs do you know that you can be rewarded for failure?
      KRO+DNM

      • Geoff S says:

Players, their agents and the PFA ain’t in the business of agreeing contracts which include wage-cuts.

        • Chris W says:

With the new Financial Fair Play (FFP) coming into force they may soon have too.
So you agree rewarding players for getting a team relegated and being allowed to move back to a division they were relegated from?
          KRO+DNM

  • Oldbluenose says:

I see that Mutch, has signed for QPR, £6mill, Does anyone know what price we sold him for, ?.

  • Staffs Blue says:

6:30pm. “Sky Sports understands Cardiff City are thought to be the “unnamed Championship club” to have bid for Birmingham City’s Tom Adeyemi.”

Talk about Breaking news. Priceless. lol

  • mark says:

well glad blues turned his request down 6 millions should cover it lol

  • mark says:

said before this will be a sideways decision by the lad imo obviously his agent got to his head……… i hope he leaves it alone now blues have thrown out his request out.
The lad need to concentrate on his football

  • mark says:

well unless a eye popping offer is put to blues……4.5mil with a substantial sell-on clause……….then the door maybe open…..

    • Staffs Blue says:

24-48 hours the BM reckon. But we won’t get much.

      • mark says:

tbh staffs my comments were tongue in cheek really, possibly a mil with add on and sell-on clause…He could of waited he still young, feel gutted for clark

        • Staffs Blue says:

I’ve been around the boards and to be honest, all most people care about is getting a decent price for him. Hardly anyone cares that he’s actually leaving.

          • Chris W says:

If the player is determined to leave then there is not much else to say, I think he is making a big mistake but I hope he enjoys the not so bright lights of Cardiff.
All we can hope for is someone with an ounce of intelligence to get the best possible deal for the betterment of the club and LC.
            KRO+DNM

          • Geoff S says:

Probably the best bet in the long run, Chris, but I notice Blues went from rejecting Cardiff’s bid for Adeyemi yesterday morning and before the day had ended, they had accepted. I know the player’s transfer request is key here but that was also turned down yesterday morning.

Do you get the impression that such a quick about turn will mean Adeyemi is allowed to leave the club on the cheap as many Blues fans thought was the case with a few others sold on in recent times? Wasn’t the only time Blues drove some sort of hard bargain when Pannu dug his heels in with the vile over McLeish?

          • Chris W says:

It does smack of a panic sale, as you say in less than 8 hours they had done a complete U-turn in both refusing his Request and Cardiff’s offer.
BIHL have said they have enough money for the foreseeable future and will support the manager within their strict guidelines, they even went on record to say they wanted to invest in the team. If this is the second offer then I would like to think it is a decent one of at least £2 mill and not one that includes add-ons which can get lost with change of ownerships.
Something tells me this is a panic sale and Blues are not in the position BIHL want us to believe.
            KRO+DNM

  • Richard Granfield says:

I see sense has prevailed and Blues have negotiated a deal to sell Adeyemi to Cardiff.
IMO Clark has no need to rush for a replacement as we have a number of viable replacements on our books.
I for one will not be booing Adeyemi when Cardiff come to town, but I suspect I may be in the minority.

    • mark says:

tbh Richard not a great lot you can do if a player put in a transfer request and the other club offer silly money….
if he thinks he at a better club good luck to him..

  • Poppa999 says:

Does anyone know if the club sells a player (asset) do they have to pay capital gains tax too?

  • river says:

I hope adeyemi does the same to Cardiff when another club comes knocking.we don’t need players like that in our ranks full of self -importance and GREED bye bye adeyemi ur now up there with Robbie savage as far as blues fans r concerned good riddance
