Reading Preview in Association with EZE Group
Gary Rowett takes Blues to Reading to play their penultimate away game of the season. With Millwall losing last night confirming Reading’s mathematical safety from relegation neither team is playing for more than pride.
Reading
The Royals lie in 19th place on 47 points – 7 clear of 22nd placed Millwall who only have two games left meaning that they are now mathematically clear of the drop. Steve Clarke’s side haven’t won a Championship game since March 10 and come into this game after an extra time defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup Semis after Adam Federici allowed a shot to squirm through him.
Reading could make changes – Oliver Norwood, Simon Cox and Jem Karacan are all back in contention after missing the Wembley trip while cup-tied Nathan Ake and Kwesi Appiah could also return to the fold.
Blues
Blues welcome back Diego Fabbrini and Lloyd Dyer after both missed the Watford game as both were ineligible to face their parent club. Nikola Zigic has returned to fitness and could also make the squad.
As much as Rowett probably needs to experiment, I don’t believe he will – there seems to be a fear that even though the games now mean nothing that Blues should be pushing for a top 12 finish. As much as wins are good I think he does need to look at some of his more fringe players if only to know he has to move them on in the summer.

Fabbrini in for shinnie and that’s about it .. Give it last home game Saturday and he might make two or three changes and use all subs but tonight I don’t think so .. I say 1-1 with Donaldson on target . Kro
Reading the preview on the blues sight and taking note of Gary’s comments he appears to be hinting at some changes tonight. I think we face 3 teams in the last few games that have nothing to play for so he will be mixing it up and giving some of the fringe players a chance to stake a claim for next season…. i fancy the team to look a bit like this Randolph, Caddis, Spector, Kiernon, Hancox, Tesche, Davis, Fabbrini, Dyer, Thomas, Novak, Subs: Doyle, Morrison, Grounds, Gray, Donaldson, Gleeson, Cotterill, fancy a change in formation for this one 442
Fabbrini will probably come back in, but after the 6-1, I would think Gray is nailed on to start. Personally, I would play him on the right. Other than that, I can’t see much difference team-wise. Rowett’s not for changing!
Since Reading havent won at home since March 10th, we all know that that will be rectified tonight and their goalscorer will be the bloke who hasnt scored this year. Plus Federici will play a blinder :(
sounds like a long time bluenose… kro
you were wrong!
Rowett has said that players still have time to impress him for next season. I don’t get how. If players haven’t had the chance to impress him in 5 months, what chance do they have in 3 games? I think it’s probably a load of old fanny, to keep the players on their toes for the last 3 games. :)
I think it’s pretty obvious and he already knows who he wants and don’t want and the next three games ain’t gonna make any difference whatsoever to next season … Brown, Johnstone, Arthur are maybe the ones who are not close to the first team who might be with us next season but the rest will all go and be replaced with hopefully a better quality of player that can push for the playoffs … But there as to be change at the top for that to happen IMO .kro
Have to agree with all that Dave. It’s also possible that 2 or 3 of those you mentioned might spend a month or two out on loan.
There’s every chance that will happen if we get players in who are ready to step into the team and not warm the bench . Kro
I would experiment, what have we to loose.
Reece brown to be given opportunity in no 10 position.
Play Gray on right
There’s also a hint that there could be a formation change. It makes sense, since our away form has been iffy in 2015. Could it be tonight that he goes with 5 at the back, or 3 at the back with wing backs?
It’l never happen, but I’d love to see a few changes, ie:
Randolph
Kiernan Morrison Gunning
Caddis Gleeson Fabbrini Davis Hancox
Green Thomas
Subs: Doyle, Grounds, Spector, Tesche, Gray, Cotterill, Donaldson
Plenty on the bench to change things.
If that’s the team and bench tonight staffs I will get a ticket for wembley and sit with the vile and cheer them on till I can’t sing anymore!! … I know it’s what you’d want and maybe most of us also would like to see … I think he will go 4-4-1-1 with .. Randolph , caddis, grounds, Kiernan , Morrison, cotterill , Davis, Tesche , gray , fabbrini , Donaldson . .. We’re both be miles out but lets win and set up a nice little last home game against charlton saturday where as I said earlier there might be changes! Kro
Absolutely agree with your probable team Dave… but what will he learn from it? Bugger all. Like I said earlier, it’s probably all fanny to stop them lying on the beach already lol
Adam Adam where’s the ball, Adam where’s the ball lol
Good luck lads
KRO
Brilliant good player name is Andrea Pirlo (itailai) same sample like Degio Fabbrini is skill good on feet and view good point passed ball… Keeping Fabbrini stay at blues next new season 100% hope so
3-5-2, well done staffs .. But wrong players … Great shout though !! Kro
At last, we’ll see if Grounds can play an attacking game. I think it could work though.
From the personnel, it seems he’s looking more at whether certain players can play in different formations more than anything.
Touch and go at times, but a decent away win. That’s another monkey off their backs.
I hope Chalobah is brought to book over that punch on Fabbrini.
Good win lads. Great to see the fire in the belly there even when there’s nothing to play for except pride.
Losing Fabbrini made a difference to us but we came through in the end. How’s my friend Aussie Sheila by the way?KRO
Not a great game but 3 points and that’s now 57 and that 60 target looks on with a win at home to charlton Saturday in our last home game of the season .. That would make it 15/15/15 across the board going into our anual last day at Bolton so lets get down to Stans and then take our 5,000 to Bolton and see out this season with a bang and bring on next season where the playoffs could be possible if we get what we want this summer! Kro
” who put the ball in the reading net , Adam Frederichi ” ..quality !! And reading singing ‘ where we you at wembley” .. Propably the worst song ever sung to blues fans .. ???? Kro
