GAMEDAY – Home v Preston

Blues face Preston looking to snap a sequence of results that has seen them lose 2-1 at home in their last three games in what is their penultimate game at St Andrew’s for the season.

Preston

Preston lie one place and two points behind Blues and will overtake them should they win the match – something Gary Rowett is anxious not to happen. PNE haven’t won in three games and have only won once in five games; however they have won two of their last three away from Deepdale.

Callum Woods could return after a calf problem.

Blues

Jon Toral will be an enforced change after his late sending-off means he has to serve a one match ban; “fringe” player Diego Fabbrini could in to the team in his place. Stephen Gleeson and Tomasz Kuszczak could both come back into the side having been rested while Rowett could also give a run to young winger Viv Solomon-Otabor.

Ref

Keith Stroud is in the middle for this one. He’s booked a whopping 176 players and sent off 11 in his 41 games so far this season, with his last Blues game being the 1-0 win at home over Cardiff in December. Shane Lowry, Jonathan Spector and Maikel Kieftenbeld were all booked in that game.

Suspension Watch

One red card (three match suspension served): James Vaughan; (one match suspension to serve): Jon Toral

9 Yellow Cards: Maikel Kieftenbeld
8 Yellow Cards: Stephen Gleeson
7 Yellow Cards: Jonathan Grounds
6 Yellow Cards: Diego Fabbrini, David Davis and Paul Caddis
5 Yellow Cards: Jon Toral and Michael Morrison
4 Yellow Cards: Clayton Donaldson and Paul Robinson
3 Yellow Cards: David Cotterill and James Vaughan

As we play Middlesbrough in our final home game, I would suggest this is our only hope of 3 points at home, as Middlesbrough will be aiming to be championship winners. Preston will no doubt want to finish above Blues so will come out fighting tonight.
Lets get back to winning ways with a 2-0 win.
Lets give VSO and Vaughan a run out tonight.

  • Sods law says that we need be in front at half time ,,,better than Burnley but not enough first time shots inside the box , we need to learn from that , COME ON GET IN THERE…..KRO…

  • mark says:

just looking at this ref stats i will be very surprised if he does not show a red, and spoil the game…….

  • Dave Mann says:

As long as it’s one of they’re players I ain’t really bothered , need the win to consolidate that 9th position and go within one point of last seasons total .. A reverse 2-1 for Blues this time . KRO

  • StaffsBlue says:

Preston have proved to be a solid, mid-table side now… but it’s taken them most of the season to get where they are. We’ve not been out of the top 10 so far this season, so that should be all the incentive we need to stay put and put a few more points between us and them.

We’ve not lost 4 in a row at home since we were under the previous manager… that should be all the motivation Rowett needs to avoid that happening again. :))

I would keep the same side and formation, with possibly Fabbrini replacing Toral. Playing Kieftenbeld and Davis together in the middle allowed us to attack more imo.

    Blues 2-1 Preston.

  • Make this one a win for T F, and PC.. .happy birthday…kro

  • Dave Mann says:

Yeah happy birthday Trevor and let’s win this one for him tonight . KRO

  • Shirley Blue says:

Given there is now very little to play for I wouldn’t blame the players if they were thinking about what beach they will be sitting on soon but we need to stop the rot and fast. Since the Ipswich 3-0 home win we have picked up 13 points from 14 games – that’s relegation form.

  • Steve Crathorn says:

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SUPER TREV FOREVER KING OF THE BLUES> KRO

  • Tony M says:

Not looking forward to these last two home games, the team really needs to give it one last push, and give the supporters something to take into the summer, loose both games and all the early season optimism will have been wasted.

  • ChrisG says:

Hopefully GR will recall Tommo in goal as imo Leg ends is useless

  • Same again blues with a few more shots on target SUPER BLUES…

  • Texas Pete says:

Wow! Blues result matches the other also-ran teams. Cardiff lose, Sheff, Ipswich draw.None deserve a playoff spot.

  • .KC says:

20 minute performance when Fabbrini had the ball and some space..Then the rot set in. Rowett should go berserk at them. They let him down so badly. Unbelievably poor performance from Grounds. Maghoma half asleep as usual. Lafferty adds nothing. Gleeson useless.etc etc Gosh if some of this lot are around next season it’s going to be tough.

  • Bromsgrove Blue says:

What a garbage performance, gave it away after 2 goal lead.Defending woeful again, Grounds is a nightmare defending caught out for first goal and the second was like shots in. I thought poor substitutions again by Rowett taking Fabbrini off, left us with no creativity in the team after his departure. This could have been an ideal game to blood VSO and Charlie Adams but no we get the same old faces who have done nothing of late. It’s a good job we had the points in the bag from our early season form or else we could have been scrapping with Charlton and Mk Dons to stay up.

  • mark says:

well i did say preston were a informed team to make matter worse they gave us two nil lead…….

  • mark says:

we had four shots on goal but we scored with two………
16 draws is really what let us down…..
mr rowett what is your defense playing at……nail finally crushed our play -off hopes……
i personally don’t think we win another match this season at the moment i stand corrected.

  • Mitchell says:

Stark reality is that apart from Morrison the back four needs replacing. Forget about attacking wing backs-just get a solid back four with real height and decent bulk. We are weak fodder as we are now with a red light warning now as to next season. Shotton not the answer for me to play alongside Morrison. Need a Hanley or a Duffy type of Blackburn.

  • Deanblue says:

Poor support again last night after a brief sign of life against Burnley.
As the away fans sing ,our support is FS .
To those who answer me to say they need something to cheer first , why is it so different away , when we and the country can hear the support over the audio and TV commentaries . They’re singing right from the off , no waiting for inspiration there. I even saw the Holte End singing the other day , and look at the crap they’re watching.
At the risk of being boring cos I’ ve said it a few times , but we get what we deserve , no support = no passion in the players = a mid-table championship side

  • Last 5 games 22 shots on target compared to 19 by the opposition ***won 1 ,,, d 1 ,,,L,,3…proves we need we need 2 better goal scorers in our four attacking players , and 2 more defenders in our squad , shotton still needs time to gel but we need 2 anyway to get up to strength , being as our goal total is the weaker a striker is our first need ,
