GAMEDAY – away to Huddersfield

Birmingham City travel to Huddersfield today hoping that they can pull themselves out of a wretched run of recent form to restore some pride in the team at the end of the season.

Huddersfield

The Terriers lie in 16th place on 50 points, and like Blues have nothing left to play for this season as they are mathematically safe from relegation. They’ve drawn two of their last three games and haven’t won at home in three games.

They have an unchanged squad with Jamie Paterson continuing his comeback from his hamstring strain.

Blues

Jon Toral is definitely out and will not play a further part in Blues season; Maikel Kieftenbeld is a heavy doubt with a possible fractured eye socket and James Vaughan is ineligible due to the terms of his loan agreement. Despite these three being potentially all out the question is if Rowett will change his squad at all although the lack of numbers may force his hand.

Ref

David Webb will take charge of this game. It will be his 35th game this season having shown 96 yellow cards and six reds already this season. His last Blues game was the 4-0 away thrashing by Wigan in August 2014 when he booked David Cotterill and Paul Robinson.

Suspension Watch

One red card (three match suspension served): James Vaughan; (one match suspension served): Jon Toral

9 Yellow Cards: Maikel Kieftenbeld
8 Yellow Cards: Stephen Gleeson
7 Yellow Cards: Jonathan Grounds
6 Yellow Cards: Diego Fabbrini, David Davis and Paul Caddis
5 Yellow Cards: Jon Toral and Michael Morrison
4 Yellow Cards: Clayton Donaldson and Paul Robinson
3 Yellow Cards: David Cotterill and James Vaughan
2 Yellow Cards: Jonathan Spector, Jacques Maghoma, Kyle Lafferty and Neal Eardley
1 Yellow Card: Tomasz Kuszczak

On a weekend break in morecambe but travelling to Huddersfield which is about 75 mins away … Interesting team selection today particualy in midfield … Be nice to see a win and push up to 8th above Ipswich who are at ‘Boro .. 1-3 ! KRO

  • The fans are gutted that the team failed to reach the playoffs as the players will be , the fans are gutted that we have’nt new owners yet, as the players will be , the difference being is the fans give money out and the players receive money , so come on blues players put those tissues away and let’s see how much bottle you really have , many of the lower teams are mocking you , Stand up and be counted …Come on blues

  • StaffsBlue says:

When you look at the squad now, with Kieftenbeld and Toral out, Vaughan not eligible and Buckley and Brock-Madsen nowhere near, there’s not a lot of choice tbh. We’re pretty much down to the bare bones. I’m going for the draw, maybe 1-1 or 2-2.

Kuszczak, Caddis, Morrison, Shotton, Grounds, Gleeson, Davis, Cotterill, Fabbrini, Maghoma, Donaldson.

SUBS:, Legzdins, Robinson, Spector, Adams, Viv Solomon-Otabor, Arthur, Lafferty

Hope we win to-day, but again who is going to score the goals if Clayton doesn’t? Will be tough as always. Not going, but looking forward to listening to it on Radio W M. Come on you Blues. KEEP RIGHT ON TO THE END OF THE ROAD. SHOW FAITH and COMMITMENT. Happy ST. George’s day, fly the red cross of England, not the Union Jack

  • Pods says:

Dave Mann have a great time with your weekend away in sunny Morecambe and let’s hope for a good result at Huddersfield, which will not be easy.
Next season is going to be mighty hard, a close season looking at loans and free bees.
Anybody heard of possible signings. 4/5 Players required at least.
    1 – 1 Today.
    KRO

    • Dave Mann says:

I am mate, just had a full English and getting ready to travel to Huddersfield, it’s nice and sunny at the moment and looking forward to a good win hopefully . KRO

  • KinverBlue says:

Unfortunately, I don’t think Gary is strong enough to pick the players up after an incredibly awful few months of poor form and mistakes.

    Huddersfield 2 – 1 Blues

  • Shirley Blue says:

I think the quicker this season ends the better to be honest and to some extent it’s back to the drawing board and have a major rethink for next season because the last few months have been a disaster.

  • Pods says:

Shirley, I think your right, we have had enough of this season, shame its petered out so tamely.
Perhaps you could go shopping in BIRMINGHAM

    KRO

  • StaffsBlue says:

Absolutely agree with back to the drawing board. The tactics and system got us through a sticky patch (last year) and into calmer waters (this year,) but it’s not going to get us any further than where we’ll finish this season. Almost all the championship clubs have worked out the way we play now and have countered it more and more effectively as the season has gone on.

As you say, we’re going to need a major rethink for next season. Change the system and the style of play and bring the players into make it work. Above all else, let’s not be so one-dimensional and utterly predictable.

  • BhamCityJulian says:

Gary’s ‘game changer’ comments in the Meaning Evil about Fabrinni sounds like the counter attacking is going to be ditched. Praise the Lord

  • Hudd….0..BLUES 3 ..GET IN THERE Bluenoses….

  • Dave Mann says:

    1-3 .KRO

Happy St George’s day to all blues looking forward to Friday nights game boro have sold out of there ticket allocation so come on blues let’s make this a night to remember as it our last game think boro have been givin the whole of Gill merrick stand apart from top section

  • StaffsBlue says:

Gleeson in for Kieftenbeld. Lafferty in for Maghoma. Another strange line-up.

  • steve says:

How do you know it’s strange until the game starts and we see how we’re playing ?

  • StaffsBlue says:

Maghoma out with an ankle injury. It says Kieftenbeld out with a quad injury. I thought he’d got an eye problem?

    • StaffsBlue says:

Tatts: “Kieftenbeld is ruled out today, due to a quad injury. His eye socket is not broken, although he has a very badly bruised black eye. Maghoma turned his ankle in training on Friday so is also unavailable. “

  • In out shake it all about ,3:0 to Blues

  • Gaz says:

Congrats to Colin Doyle on equalling his appearances today for Blackpool which took him 12 seasons for us!!

  • 65% possession hudder 35% brum would have got you the sack in any other trade .???

  • Still I suppose an away point ain’t bad … We

  • StaffsBlue says:

Kevin Summerfield: “Last season we held on to these sort of games, especially near the end of the season. It’s something we could do better and we need to work on.”

Isn’t it a bit chuffin’ late for that mate?

    • Hillfield Blues says:

I think he’s referring to the fact we had a clutch of 1-0 wins towards the end of last season that pushed us up into the top 10 at the death. We look like we’re going to end up on the same amount of points and league position but we’ve gone about it in reverse fashion which is why it’s frustrating but out of the two seasons I’d take this one over the last because we stayed in contention for so long.

  • Womboune Blue says:

Another goal conceded in the last 10 minutes. Again. How many more times?

  • Dave Mann says:

Dissapointed in the end but a good day had and now three points from beating last seasons total and Boro and Cardiff to come , can still finish 7th with two wins so one final push on what’s been one of those seasons you expect being a bluenose , generally happy but falling towards the end as somewhat been annoying though that’s the roller coaster ride we always seem to be on … Good luck to Gary Rowett in the London marathon today … He will propably start really well , maintain is position through the middle of the race then fall away towards the end .. Bit like the Blues :-) KRO

    • Mitchell says:

You have seen Shotton a few times now away from home. Just one question Dave-is he in your view the twin CH we need for next season?.

      • StaffsBlue says:

To be honest, I’d like another dominant centre back alonside Shotton. I’m not convinced by Morrison, never have been. He does have good games for sure, but he’s found wanting quite a bit. Whether he’d be better alongside better defenders I don’t know, but he’s nowhere near commanding enough for me, considering he’s supposed to be our No.1 centre back and captain.

  • Dave Mann says:

He’s done ok Mitchell so I certainly would keep hold of him if we can’t get any better and that’s gonna be the case next season . KRO

  • Nice to hear that Clayton Donaldson is the most deadly goalscorer in shot % per goal , top man

  • StaffsBlue says:

Best of luck for the future to Liam Truslove and defender Perry Cotton who are being released at the end of the season, after being with the club since they were 10 years old.

Jake Weaver and Josh Cogley have had their year’s option taken up. Well done to those two.

  • mark says:

no surprises from me regarding the scoreline against a weak team, 2 games to go no points no wins
