GAMEDAY – Oxford United Preview
Birmingham City take on Oxford United at St Andrew’s this evening in the EFL League Cup, hoping not to fall to the League One side at the first hurdle.
Oxford
The Us come into this game having drawn their opening League One fixture with Chesterfield at the weekend. They may be a bit light in defence, with Chey Dunkley and former Blues centre-back Aaron Martin doubts and Christian Ribeiro sidelined with an ankle knock.
Another former Blues man leads the line for Oxford United, with Gary Rowett already warning that Wes Thomas will want to do well on his return to St Andrew’s.
Blues
Rowett is likely to rotate his squad a little bit for this game, and has hinted he may even play a 3-5-2 as he did at Kidderminster. That could mean a start on the right side of defence for Paul Caddis or maybe even Josh Cogley while Jack Storer could add to his debut cameo up front with a first start in Blue.
One player who probably won’t play is Reece Brown, who unfortunately picked up a knock on Saturday but Maikel Kieftenbeld could come in after injury. New signing Che Adams is not eligible having not signed in time and will watch this one from the stands.
Ref
As of the time of writing no ref has been appointed for the game… I’ll update this as and when I know.
