Off to Partizan – Draw Day
Today is the day of the Europa League draw, and whilst Blues will be seeded so will Partizan Belgrade – so we won’t be “Off to Partizan” just yet! The complete list of unseeded teams, complete with the country they are in is thus:
Young Boys | Switzerland |
Nacional | Portugal |
Hannover 96 | Germany |
Sochaux | France |
Dnipro Dnipropetovsk | Ukraine |
Trabzonspor | Turkey |
Bursaspor | Turkey |
Vitoria Guimaraes | Portugal |
Helsingborg | Sweden |
Karpaty Lviv | Ukraine |
CSKA Sofia | Bulgaria |
Vorskla Poltava | Ukraine |
Vaslui | Romania |
Sion | Switzerland |
Red Star Belgrade | Serbia |
Alania Vladikavkaz | Russia |
Litex Lovech | Bulgaria |
Hearts | Scotland |
Nordsjaelland | Denmark |
Olympiakos Volou | Greece |
Slask Wroclaw | Poland |
Omonia | Cyprus |
Maccabi Tel Aviv | Israel |
Slovan Bratislava | Slovak Republic |
Legia Warsaw | Poland |
Gaz Metan Medias | Romania |
Thun | Switzerland |
Maribor | Slovenia |
Ried | Austria |
Rabotnicki | Macdeonia |
Aalesunds | Norway |
HJK Helsinki | Finland |
AEK Larnaca | Cyprus |
Ekranas | Lithuania |
Spartak Trnava | Slovak Republic |
Dinamo Tblisi | Georgia |
Zestafoni | Georgia |
Shamrock Rovers | Republic of Ireland |
The draw takes place at 1pm today, and UEFA may decide to separate the teams into groups to prevent teams from certain countries playing against each other. The first leg of the tie will be played on Thursday August 18, with the return one week later on the 25th. Once the draw is made, I will do my best to post an article about our opponents.

1pm draw, coverage starts at 12:30 though doesn’t it?
I seriously think we will get either Shamrock Rovers or Red Star Belgrade.
But realistically only 2 teams worry me there – some difficult away trips even for the lesser sides but i’d hope to beat most at St.Andrews – Young Boys are probably the best team there but without Doumbia I haven’t seen them play much so don’t know if they are as good as before.
I hope we can loan a new keeper and field a team like this in Europe
———————————New GK———————————
Carr—————-Dann———————Caldwell———-Murphy
———————————-Gomis———————————–
————————-Michel———–Fahey————————–
Beausejour———————————————————Burke
——————————–Jerome(or whoever is here/fit)———
many will disagree but oh well.
Would love to see Birmingham in Europa League Groups and just enjoy the days out
No Davies?
oh ben, god bless yer!!!….the medication just aint workin’ my friend…
only jokin’…each to there own….
KRO….!
Ben,
What’s wrong with Boaz Myhill?
So Ben you would play a 4-5-1 (boring) & play Keith (girls can kick a ball harder than me) Fahey instead of Rooooneeeey, & play sicknote Murphy instead of Ridgewell?….interesting!!!!
Where’s the draw being shown? Sky Sports News?
Is that Eck who’s posted that team?
No more fire sales, kit sponsors, and now investment, things are well and truly looking up!!
Sotv
Chris , without going into further detail about Ben’s choice of starting line up , I feel obliged to state that ANY team without the unmittigated disaster that is Liam Ridgewell is okay with me ! Now that his guardian angel has decamped to Wolves and the boy wonder ponders a big time move to the elite, he will be totally exposed time after time ……… I do not want to see him in a blue shirt ( apart from the merchandise photo ! – strange choice of ‘player’ ! ) again this season !
Please Please Please let the fist leg be away, on holiday that week .
A couple of days in Cyprus would be nice! (Omonia/Larnaca)
agreed there my friend….i like cyprus….
a few beers, a couple of days of sun, and we get to see the blues win in a foreign country….
noice!!!
KRO…
It’s one of
CD Nacional (POR)
FC Sion (SUI)
PFC Litex Lovech (BUL)
SV Ried (AUT)
FK Rabotnicki (MKD)
WKS Śląsk Wrocław (POL)
So it’s CD Nacional (POR). Apparently there are only 250 tickets available for the away match which is a bit unfortunate as I know many wanted to get to our 1st away match in Europe. Wonder how many players we will have to bring in if we qualify for the group stages??
I rate Ridgewell highly, very highly. He may be undone by a speed merchant, but which full-back isn’t? His ability to get forward is first class & he does score goals. What do others think?
In answer to AR , regarding Ridgewell . It’s not a spiteful thing , I don’t ‘ dislike ‘ the man , his heart is definitely in the right place , but the fact remains he’s an accident waiting to happen in every game. The irony is that I think he will somehow be found out even more often now that we are a second tier outfit. Championship teams will brush him aside. He’s just about kept his head above water out on the flank , and by that I mean his shortcomings have been picked up by the late lamented dynamic trio , but mark my words, now that he’s only going to be backed up by mere mortals , he will be culpable for dozens of clangers if we persist with him.
