Butland update

Having had a few shaky weeks whilst in goal at Cheltenham Town, it appears Blues’ young keeper Jack Butland has turned things around somewhat.

Butland kept a clean sheet against Barnet at the weekend in a man of the match performance for the Robins, and Butland himself admitted it came as a relief. I guess like any other player he looks at his mistakes in prior games but it’s good to see that he can bounce back like that and it will have done his confidence no end of good.

In the bank holiday fixture away to Rotherham the Robins went down to a last-minute Ryan Cresswell to deny Butland his second consecutive clean sheet. However, the Clevedon-born goalkeeper did save a penalty from Lewis Grabban in the game, and was unlucky to concede having played well in difficult conditions.

Cheltenham play Accrington Stanley at Whaddon Road at the weekend as they look to cement their own playoff chances.

I’ve watched Jack in the reserves for a few years now and he has the calm authority only the best keepers in the world possess but not many at such a young age. He is highly regarded by Dave Watson (goalkeeping coach) and by many senior coaches – there is a good reason he is England U21’s no 1. Like Nathan, we need to keep hold of him and CH will, I’m sure nurture a cracking talent rather than risk him too much, too young. If promotion is realised this season, Ben Foster and Jack with Colin Doyle in reserve is a comforting thought…

If we want his BCFC career extended some below par performances might just be the ticket to put off the Prem scouts and to help convince JB a couple of years in our first team is best for him in the long run.

  • Mark Peacock says:

Let’s hope the rumours of Man U and Arsenal sniffing around are not true.

Would love to at least see him play one game for the first team at BCFC!

  • Graham Woodward says:

Promotion or not, sell Ben Foster to the baggies. There’s no way the club could turn round to Myhill and say thanks for everything, but now we’re in the premier league we want BF back. Myhill would be more than capable in the PL.

  • quokkasskip says:

Graham, I am sorry but i disagree. Myhill is average and in the prem you need a quality keeper to literally save you points. Butland maybe the answer, but i cannot see us keep Myhill beyond this year.I think in the Championship Butland would be no 1. In the prem i think we will keep Foster and have Butland as no2 next year.

Annoys me how quick people are to pounce on young players backs when they make a few mistakes, the mark of quality is that they learn from them and bounce back like jack has done, I remember Joey ‘the lion’ Hart making a few errors when he first came and people were saying he wasn’t very good, he proved them wrong.
Jack is going to be a top class keeper and our no 1 in two or three years if we hold onto him, it would be madness to sell him now for 3mil.
I hope we hang onto fozzie for a couple of seasons until Jack is ready.

  • Kimberley Blue says:

Depending on our financial status it would make sense to sell for a large transfer fee and negotiate to retain Jack on loan to continue his education.
We are now a selling club after all

Don’t we have to wait and see what wba think we should do ??
Anyone else getting a bit pissed off with the “plastic” dingles, lower than mid table in the prem, the manager telling us to hurry up and tell them what we (B.C.F.C ) are going to do about ARE GOALKEEPER.
The VILE b’tard ridgewell saying he thinks foster should stay at wba.
And roy thinks he’s good enough to manage ENGLAND !! L`M`F`A`O. !!

Lets hope we visit wba soon to put them in there place.
And enjoy another SOHO ROAD PUB CRAWL BACK TO BRUM (without a home fan insight) !!

    Soz “rant~over”

    K`R`O.

The great think about the Buggies yapping on about wanting to know about the future now and therefor e they want Foster is that Woy Hogdson has not yet signed a new contract! Hopefully you are right about Woy not managing England not from concern about what may happen to England but that they may realise we have a superior manager to them and come calling to us for a replacement.

They must also be concerned about their fans lack of funds as they are reducing season ticket prices. They are also looking to increase their ground capacity which does suggest they are looking to emulate their friends the real Dingles! KRO

I agree with kimberley blue if we have to sell butland to united lets do a deal to have him back on loan for the season. Foster wants to stop at w.b.a. so sell him to the highest bidder as warnock wants kenny from Qp.r. and hughes is interested in foster. k.r.o.

There is no way Blues should even consider selling Butland or any other of their promising youngsters. Blues put a 12 million price tag on Redmond and the club should make the same statement on Butland. Every player has a price and Blues should price the likes of Redmond, Butland and Mutch at the 12 million figure already quoted for Redmond if they really need to sell such players.
