Gladbach Friendly Update
Blues have confirmed that the preseason friendly against German side Borussia Mðenchengladbach will be played at the Sportpark Nymphemburg on Saturday 21 July, KO 5pm. I’ve put together a short guide on travel to the stadium for those travelling.
The stadium is the home of ESV Munich and is in the western part of the city. It’s close to the Hirschgarten, which is the largest beer garden in Munich (and possibly the World), holding 8,000 people. The world famous Oktoberfest is held in the surrounding area so thirsty Blues fans should be okay for a beer or two.
The closest rail link is the overground S-Bahn station at Munich-Laim.
The station lies within “Inner District” zone of Munich, and is covered by the “Inner District” day ticket which costs €5,60.
Tickets will cost €10 for adults and €6 for children between the ages of 13 and 17. Under 12s will have free entry.
I will be covering this game for Often Partisan and hopefully will be able to report directly from the stadium on here and on Twitter.

THE BLUES IN GERMANY!! What a wonderful message for me!
Tom, you should be aware of this one… we have updated you. :)
bit of a way from us, but all good for a trip down to Bavaria.
cheapest flight ive found is a flight from stanstead to Munich for £83…
I will be there too. We had booked flights to Munich anyway so job’s a good’un!
I was so wishing this was going to be at Borussia Park. I have a season ticket for Borussia Mönchengladbach and with a lot of gernan mates here it would have been good crack to go with them to see Blues play. Munich is probably harder for me to get to than St.Andrews.
Borussia are a good side and played good football last season, will be a good test !!
I am often in Munich but sadly not on these dates. I think Garching FC is a pretty small stadium – we’re talking Telford United.
Any idea how long it takes on the u-barn up to Garching Ajmal?
7.50 Euro’s seems like it will be a least a 20 minute journey?
It’s probably something like that, it looks like the equivalent of going to Tamworth or Lichfield out of Brum
If you go to http://www.mvv-muenchen.de (the official local transport site) you can use the thing on the left called “Fahr plan auskunft” to check train times.
Anyway the station at Garching is 36-45 minutes from the airport or 23 minutes from Marienplatz in the centre of town.
Cheers Ajmal and Doctor.
Almajir even, I keep thinking of the cricket who destroyed England in the winter
[…] The first team head out for a private pre-season training camp in Bad Haring, Austria starting a week today and end that week with a match against Borussia Mönchengladbach at Sportpark Nymphemburg in Munich on Saturday July 21. Updated details of that match are available here. […]
