Gossip Folks – The Transfer Rumour Mill (Summer 2012 Edition) Part V

It’s actually been remarkably quiet on the transfer front at St Andrews with very little speculation about players coming into or out of the club over the last two weeks – so much so I didn’t think it was worth rounding up last week.

The current version of my spreadsheet is here and as you can see not much has changed. Blues have only been linked to one player – Steve Morison of Norwich whilst the only two players who are linked with moves away from the club continue to be Nikola Zigic and Jack Butland.

The Zigic one is the one that interests me. Reading some of the Spanish news sites such as mallorcadiario.com there seems to be definite interest in Zigic from the Balearic side whereas this one seems to say Malaga are now interested in Zigic as well as Javier Saviola, and goes as far as to say that Zigic is close to agreeing a 2 year deal with Mallorca.

We’ve seen this all before – there is no doubt in my mind that Ziggy’s agent has been hawking him around the Spanish clubs and we’ve seen mention of him being “close to moving” before in previous windows. I think I won’t believe it until I see Zigic holding another team’s shirt/scarf having signed somewhere else but I’m starting to wonder if it may happen. Needless to say if it does I wouldn’t expect Blues to sign more than one replacement and I would hope to God it’s not James Vaughan.

Ideally, I’ll be looking to update this once more before the end of window round up on Monday 27 August but that will depend on how busy the next week is in the gossip pages.

The other one was James Vaughan , with CH demanding £1m……
which made me smile on a number of levels..

  • bcfcmattkro says:

Worth noting, Zigic did not celebrate against Charlton. May or may not be a sign he is close to a move away!

  • Alex T says:

I really hope not. I always liked Zigic, and he changed the game in the short time he had on Saturday. I dont care how much he is payed, we have coped until now, and i think whoever we bring in to replace him wont be as good… I too hope to god it wouldnt be Vaughan KRO

  • Blue blood says:

Not celebrating may be in relation to not making the starting 11, I’d keep him , he’s handy for the big center backs in the division KRO

    • surreybluenose says:

Did you notice how he marched off on his own at the final whistle? He was obviously not happy about something. I suspect that it was not starting or not being brought on earlier.

  • nicky wicky says:

I thought mallorca had money problems?

    • almajir says:

They do. My suspicion is that they’re trying to get Zigic on the cheap – and I can’t see it happening.

    • Blue Nose Daz says:

I’m not sure about Mallorca but Malaga definitely have money problems. They spent 60m euros on players last summer and, their Arab investor having walked away along with his investement, have sold 50m euros worth of players this summer (for 30m). Makes you think we’re pretty well run!

  • Oldbluenose says:

I echo your thoughts on Vaughn, — No way, !!.

I also believe that Zigic, IS happy about staying with the Blues, !!.

Almajir mate;, is there any truth in rumours that Zigic, may have taken a slight reduction in Wages, ?.

  • musnt grumble says:

The Charlton central defenders had an easy time until the big man came on, his first jump for the ball resulted in one of the defenders hitting the deck hard, athough the ref blew his whistle it was not a foul, this type of aggresioon is required from the first whistle to show the opposition we wont be bullied, as much as i like Marlon King agression is not part of his game and defenders get time to settle. we need to keep Zigic whatever the cost.

  • Denis Thwaites says:

Steve Morison would be a good asset to Blues if Big Zig is off. A proven goalscorer who may not be quite prem class but quality at our level being good in the air and strong and determined in the Horsfield mode. James Vaughan would be a massive risk as he has an injury history and is by no means prolific. It is clear we need some more quality in attack to pose a threat in this division so if Zig doesn’t go we should take a punt on loaning a prem club youngster who needs to prove himself. There are plenty of them who must be bursting to show what they can do.

  • Jaffa says:

Hi almajir. Any news on the identified investors that Pannu mentioned earlier in the year.Do you think if there are any investors that they might be waiting for the outcome of Carson’s big court case untill they make a move.

  • Tim says:

It would be big blow to Zigic go; he adds a real threat to the team and (despite the gawky gait) has a classy touch. I don’t know that he didn’t celebrate the goal, he had a couple of Blues players jump on his back and was surrounded by team mates. Certainly he further boosted his popularity with fans on Saturday.

  • Gary B says:

Somen Tchoyi was on trial a couple of weeks ago,any news on signing him?

  • Jack h says:

I think big zig is on his way out. The way he walked off at the end of the game, and he dramatically blew kisses and waved to all the blues fans in the corner by the tunnel. I like Zigic and already think he looks alot sharper this season, however I think if we can get £4m for him? And 50k a week of the wage bill then so be it! Thanks for All the memories Zigic!

  • Texas Pete says:

For promotion we need someone that scores goals and can’t stop. We haven’t had one for a long time. Like Lambert for Southampton. If, based on wages and Saturday, Ziggy is it, then he has to play the full game. If not he and others have to go to make way for that someone who puts us all on the edge of our seats any time the ball is sent in his (or her) direction. Pay him Ziggy wages and pay a Ziggy price so we go as undeniable champions.
Incidentally Ziggy has never had a long enough uninjured period to get in the groove nor has he had the right formulaic support that would have goals flowing. The only forward that has had this is King and I dont think he is it.

  • evesham blue says:

The guy is likeable and has scored some crucial goals but has also been injured and inconsistent in the main. He is not my kind of “footballer” admittedly. What is for sure is he is not worth 6 million and the wages he is on. We would have offloaded him sooner if anybody wanted him.

If he was so good – then why is he still playing for a championship side? If he so wanted to stay – then why hasnt he took a cut in wages when we were going through the ringer last year? The only reason he is still here is because he is quite happy picking up his salary as he wont get anything like this deal anywhere else. In the meantime – we are still picking up the tab which must be crippling for a team in the championship.

  • Art Watson says:

By all accounts his days are numbered.

Interesting to see if he’s in the starting line up tonight!

  • Think of the children says:

Anyone who has watched zigic play knows how bad he is.
Anyone who has seen zigic’s wages knows how overpriced he is.

He’s going nowhere coz everyone knows he’s a donkey (no offence to donkeys intended).

Come on, you might be able to convince yourself for some bs romantic reason that you like him, but are another club’s scouts going to think the same way? No. Absolutely not. Get a grip, zigic fans.

  • brett says:

zigic is a legend in my eyes, he try and trys, he always runs when others don’t and I want him to stay, COME ON ZIGGY WIN US THE LEAGUE!!! KRO..
