Referee Watch – Stuart Attwell

Barring any late changes, Stuart Attwell of Warwickshire will be in the middle for Blues’ game against Ipswich Town at St Andrews on Saturday. Here is a look at his stats.

Season Performance

So far this season Mr Attwell has officiated in fifteen matches, showing forty-two yellow cards and two reds. Of those games, four have been in the Championship and those have yielded eleven yellow cards. Last season, which saw Mr Attwell taken off the select group of Premier League referees saw Mr Attwell officiate in thirty-two games, showing one hundred and two yellow cards and six reds. Of those games, seven were in the Championship, and in those games Mr Attwell handed out twenty-five bookings.

Last Blues Game Refereed

The last Blues game that Mr Attwell officiated in was the Carling Cup third round match between Blues and MK Dons which saw Blues 3-1 winners on their way to winning the trophy. In that game Mr Attwell kept his cards in his pocket, and he wasn’t mentioned by Colin Tattum in his match report.

Last Championship Game Refereed

The last game at Championship level refereed by Mr Attwell was the game between Peterborough United and Huddersfield which ended 3-1 to the home side. In that game Mr Attwell showed yellow cards to Kgosi Ntlhe, Grant McCann and Michael Bostwick, all of Peterborough United. The Peterborough Telegraph are scathing of Attwell, giving him a four in their match report – however they don’t justify it with any comments in the piece. The Huddersfield Examiner on the other hand barely mentions him.
