Referee Watch – Michael Naylor

Barring any late changes, Michael Naylor will be in the middle for Blues’ game against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday. Here is a look at his stats.

Season Performance

So far this season Mr Naylor has been in the middle for twelve games, showing twenty-eight yellow cards and two reds. Of those games, three have been in the Championship and in those games Mr Naylor has handed out eleven cautions. Last season, Mr Naylor officiated in thirty-one games, showing 101 yellow cards and five reds. Of those games, eleven were in the Championship and they yielded 32 cautions and one sending off. Mr Naylor is a relative newcomer to the Championship, having reffed just sixteen games at this level previously.

Last Blues Game Refereed

The last (and only) Blues game that Mr Naylor has been in charge of was the 2-1 away defeat to Hull at the KC Stadium last December. In that game Mr Naylor handed out cautions to Guirane N’Daw of Blues and Andy Dawson, Paul McKenna and Aaron McLean of Hull City. In his match report, Gregg Evans of the Birmingham Mail didn’t mention the ref which I take as a positive sign.

Last Championship Game Refereed

The last game at Championship level refereed by Mr Naylor was the game between Blackpool and Brighton and Hove Albion on 27 October which finished 1-1. In that game Mr Naylor showed yellow cards to Ian Evatt, Isaiah Osbourne and Angel of Blackpool and Adam El-Abd and Dean Hammond of Brighton. Neither the Blackpool Gazette nor the Brighton Argus mention the referee which again I take to be a positive sign.

An anagram of his name is “Hell I am a crony”. Funny that.

  • Carson Yeung says:

It is interesting to see that the man you speak of booked Paul McKenna at the K C Stadium last season. Once he’s finished refereeing the game, could you please ask Mr Naylor to contact me about booking Paul McKenna on a tour of the Far East (and a Hong Kong courtroom).

With the persuasive powers of a hypnotist and the magic of Peter Pannu I may stand a chance of getting out of this mess and finally sorting Zigic’s new contract out.

I have had a bit of good news recently – Fix Yu Jim who fingered me for this in the first place, is no longer with us!

    Keep Right On

  • Smiling through adversity is a great positive in life. So glad to see that your spirit has not been dulled by your travails Carson though I am sure we will all show due diligence sorry due reverence to the passing of poor Fix Yu Jim. :-)
