Referee Watch – Carl Boyeson

Barring any late changes, Carl Boyeson of East Yorkshire will be in the middle for Blues’ game against Barnsley at Oakwell today. Here is a look at his stats.

Season Performance

Mr Boyeson has been in the middle for seventeen games this season, showing forty-three yellow cards and one red. Of those games, six have been in the Championship and in those matches Mr Boyeson has handed out sixteen cautions.

Last Blues Match Refereed

Mr Boyeson has already been in charge of one Blues game this season – the 2-1 win over Bolton in September. In that game, Mr Boyeson handed out yellow cards to Steven Caldwell of Birmingham City and to Zat Knight, Mark Davies and Chung Yong-Lee of Bolton Wanderers. Mr Boyeson was criticised by Bolton’s manager at the time, Owen Coyle, for giving Blues a soft pen which was noted in both my match report and the one in the Birmingham Mail.

Last Championship Game Refereed

The last game at this level Mr Boyeson was in charge of was the match between Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday in November. Mr Boyeson kept his cards in his pocket that day, and didn’t warrant a mention in the Middlesbrough newspaper – I can’t tell you what they thought in Sheffield as there is no match report online.
