Referee Watch – Stuart Attwell
Barring any late changes, Stuart Attwell of Warwickshire will be in the middle for Blues’ Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday at St Andrews today. Here is a look at his stats.
Season Performance
Mr Attwell has taken charge of thirty-one games this season, showing eighty-six yellow cards and two reds. Of those games ten have been at Championship level and those games have yielded twenty-five cautions.
Last Blues Game Refereed
The last game involving Blues refereed by Stuart Attwell was the 1-0 defeat to Ipswich at St Andrews back in November of last year. In that game Mr Attwell showed one yellow card – to Bilel Mohsni of Ipswich. Evidently I wasn’t impressed by Mr Attwell as I mentioned him being crap in my match reflections although he merited a 6 from Colin Tattum.
Last Championship Game Refereed
The last game at this level refereed by Mr Attwell was the match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Hull City on February 9 which finished as a 1-0 win to the home side. Mr Attwell showed two yellow cards – to Adam El Abd of Brighton and James Chester of Hull City and isn’t mentioned in the match reports from either the Brighton Argus or the Hull Daily Mail.

Tatts always seems to award decent marks to refs even when they are crap (which most of ours are). He gave Pawson 6 on saturday and mentioned only his blatant penalty miss (not that it would have been game affecting) and not the series of other blunders he made and rated him ‘generally sound’ (or something like that) which I don’t think many Blues fans watching the game would agree with. Attwell, of the ghost goal fame, has been poor in every game I’ve seen him officiate and I’m expecting more of the same tonight.
Al, can I go a bit off topic here please ? AuldBertie, I have just donated a book, The Bertie Auld story’ to the Age Concern shop in Shirley if you are interested ..(He was always my favourite Player at Blues)
Sorry ,got the title wrong .It is ‘A Bhoy called Bertie ‘..
Cheers Chas, thanks for the info. I saw Bertie many times as an 8 and 9 year old and he was a great player in his day for Blues. As I’m (quite) old and have ‘bert’ as part of my forename it seemed an appropriate username for me :)
Mr Attwell is from Nuneaton and is a Villa Fan.
I find that strange as he has reffed a villa game this season
Surely there are enough non Warwickshire and South Yorkshire referees around to avoid having a ref that’s a bit too close to home? Yes I understood too that both Attwell and all his family are all Vile fans.
