The Carson Trial – Day 30
Carson was back in court today for a shortened hearing as his trial on five counts of money laundering entered its thirtieth day.
Early reports from Apple Daily (Cantonese only) state that an expert witness for the defence gave evidence today, building a picture of Carson’s wealth prior to the time in question. The witness confirmed that Carson trained as a hairstylist in Britain and in France and ran a hair salon in the exclusive Peninsula Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong earning HKD8-10millon from an initial investment of HK$3million.
Oriental Daily adds that Mr Ian Robinson, the expert witness, had not seen the documents cited but had reached his conclusions from Carson’s testimony and from then asking others such as his wife about prices to make sure it seemed reasonable. Mr Robinson added that he didn’t believe Carson was a money launderer due to his high profile nature and the perceived need for a launderer to keep things quiet.
The case resumes Tuesday July 2 at 9:30am (2:30amBST).
I will be writing a full precis of the last two weeks or so of evidence for publication tomorrow.
Update 01:00BST June 29

Carson only a snip away from freedom……… He definitely got style.
He definitely got style.
Thank you Sir !
oh I see, so he made 7M as a hotel barber, now I see he must be innocent, that explains it…..
LOL excellent chuck!
Is C,Y. !!. Now getting serious, ?. Interesting to learn just HOW he built up his cash so quickly, ??.
He worked as a hairdresser at the Peninsular Hotel mate, That is where you make his millions man. Im being Ironic . There is no way on earth he could have made that kind of money within this time period being a BARBER!
Can you confirm that you write like that as a joke? Tell me it is a wind-up, Old Blue?
Do you think he took too much off the top ?
He charged more he his more expensive clients…. Wonder what charged for the elderly lol
Wander how much he would have charged Zigic?
I think zigic took him for a snip, but carson thought he was worth it……….
Do they use the Cut Throat Razor in Hong Kong?
What???
I am only wandering!!!
The tip jar soon fills up!
He started off by Giving Peter Pannu a short back and shine.
Peter ask for all over then carson gave a big tip-…….lol that’s his expenses sorted lol
Peter pannu went for a haircut by Carson and said “I’ll have a bit off the back,a bit off the side, and a bit off the floor”
And since he’s been running our club, he’s had plenty off the top!
I might take up hairdressing, lets see, think in ten years time I could afford an average prem side like Fulham, and what the hell, I’ll pay double for em
You know I always regret paying 50m quid for a short back and sides in HK in the 90s. Tried not to pay it but these heavies on the door didn’t let me out till I did.
Well we have el supremo on the stand to look forward to next week.
Carson and his young son are in his barber shop one day when the young boy notices the contraceptives rack & Carson saying to customers “something for the weekend sir?. “What are those for, dad?” he asks, pointing to a 3-pack of condoms. “Well son,” replies Carson “They’re for the single fellas that go out chasing women on weekends. there’s one for Friday night, one for Saturday night, and if he’s lucky, one for Sunday night”. Carson then points to a 6-pack of condoms “This pack here is for guys who have steady girlfriends. There’s one for Monday, one for Tuesday, one for Wednesday, one for Thursday, one for Friday, one for Saturday, and then they have a day off on Sunday”. Yeung jnr nods to his father in understanding, at which the father points to a 12-pack of condoms, and says “This 12 pack here, this is for married couples. One for January, one for February, one for March……..”
Once a month skareggae? I’m gooin ‘ome and tellin my missus she’s bin short changin’ moi.
Was this guy a stylist ie teezy weazie, or a short back and sides barber?
From what I know, a proper top end stylist
Brilliant. ‘Expert witness’ asks his missus if prices for a perm stack up.
Yes, m’lud I am convinced Carson is loaded coz I asked his missis how much it was for a perm and highlights and she said it was dead expensive so [gets calculator out] yeah he’s obviously definitely a millionaire.
Think I will wait for the highlights
i always said Carson was cut above the rest…………
i’m trying to imagine carson playing the zohan …he’d make pannu silky smooth !!
to even picture Carson with a straighter and comb, and they say money make the world go round………..i think peter has his eye brows done…………….
Remember when Carson first took over and he stated on sky sports that Alex McLeish would have 40 million to spend in the January and then a further 40 million to spend the following summer, that was on top of the 80 million he paid for the club! Where was this money coming from??
Look, there’s a bit demand for a cut’n’colour in Hong Kong.
He never said such a thing. Talk about time warping the truth. No wonder people don’t believe the bible.
it’s a shame we only get snippets and shavings to go on here. I bet when the full documents of the court are released they’ll be the toupe of the list for the papers and such.
Updates are much appreciated, thanks for all the effort. KRO.
It’s rumoured that over the weekend they are going to install a barber’s chair in the witness box and raise it to maximum height because Carson is a bit worried he may otherwise appear a bit small and insignificant when he takes the stand.
Didn’t Victoria Beckham pay over £5000 for a haircut in the West End recently? A few of those in a day and who knows.
Did not the prosecution provide evidence earlier in trail that CY and his old man where earning only around £15k/year as barbers? Victoria must have popped round three times that year.
Sounds like Blue Rinse to me
well thank you all for the laughs i have just had reading todays page…..as i have said previously how great it is to have a little lightheartness and comaradrie? on the site….cheers….mike
