The Carson Trial – Day 39

Carson Yeung took the stand for the first time today as his long running trial restarted in the district court in Wan Chai

South China Morning Post reports that Yeung confirmed his net worth jumped massively between 1998 and 2000 from HK$10mil to HK$100mil as the markets recovered from a crash. Carson confirmed to the court that he had made his living trading stocks in various hi-tech companies such as Cedar Base – Yeung, confirming that the daily average for such deals was HK$2million.

According to the Oriental Daily, Carson also went into detail about his hair styling days, providing photographic evidence in court of some of the more famous people he worked with.

Carson was fined by the SFC  HK$43,000 over stock market irregularities concerning Cedar Base in 2004 although the Birmingham City president was acquitted of a charge of stock market manipulation.

The court case continues tomorrow morning at 9:30am HK Time (2:30am BST)

feels like we have been here before

  • AndyP says:

Dan,have you heard how he came across,ie .confident ,nervous as the judge will surely try to read into his personality as well as evidence.

  • Flakey says:

He’s on the ropes,if it was a boxing match he would’ve been counted out by now

  • blueboy88 says:

Interestingly plenty of evidence produced from his hair styling days ,
& nothing from his stock exchange trading…..awkward..

    • bluearmyfaction says:

Well, if you make a stock market loss, it’s called taking a haircut…maybe the tonsorial artistry is metaphorical for him making a killing.

  • Carl Finlan says:

maybe judge yau is after a hair revamp hence the jackie chan pictues

  • John says:

Does Carson recognise you Dan? if not, any chance of wearing something Blues related? Also. after tomorrow could you describe the set-up in the courtroom to give us a flavour of what it’s like?

  • steve says:

Dan,your mate Blinderpeaky is saying that Yeung has turned down Paladini’s bid. You heard anything?

  • Art Watson says:

If this is true it could well explain why Mr T R has gone quiet all of a sudden…if this is true of course!

  • skareggae72 says:

About time we got down to the ‘crunch’ of this case, its dragged on and on and on.
If I had my way I would get Judge Judy in & ask a few direct questions and in 20 minutes it would all be over, but in reality this will probably still be dragging on in six months time.

  • Tony says:

Dan could you answer Steves Question?.

  • Tony says:

Are there any comparative court cases in Hong Kong to show the likely ending?

  • DoctorD says:

Here’s my prediction: if CY gets cleared, he tries to get BIHL relisted on the stock exchange and seeks new investors from China. If CY gets sentenced, he steps down, Pannu accepts Paladini’s bid and we move on Worse-case scenario is an appeal.

    • steve says:

It could be next year before he gets sentenced. Will Paladini’s lot wait that long?I wouldn’t have thought he’s the main man, more a front man.His consortium might start looking elsewhere.

  • Art Watson says:

    Tony,

If TR had any good news he would have broadcasted it by now instead of wating till Thursday.

I fear this is yet another red herring and nothing will happen until after the trial.

  • gerard says:

Tom Ross special show on Thursday -will be worth listening to as it will be a phone in with a certain gentleman who
heads the one and only true bid received by Yeung, all maybe revealed during the show, the truth will out and you can make up your own minds on the bid which I know was genuine.legal, docuemented and above board, the outcome of which will be for you to judge, and will impact heavily on the future of the club we all love

    • Mightybluenose says:

If it is the person with the one and only true bid wouldn’t they be in breach of the NDA’s they would have signed and be facing potential legal cases if they revealed anything?

  • Art Watson says:

Sorry to say I’m not at all convinced especially when you say “all maybe revealed”.Your post also suggests that the bid has been rejected and Tom has exclusivity to the information.

Tom has been trotting out this type of gossip since June and frankly I don’t think he actually knows what’s going on but it’s great for his ratings.

  • Bloofalme says:

Oh those words..Wan chai!! So many good nights there. I suppose Yeung won’t be feeling the same about it as I do. Do we know if things are looking good or bad for him? What if he gets a not guilty, where does that leave the club? My thinking is can he be successful should there be a not guilty, I just don’t remember if the trial is a red herring or whether there was a bad situation gone worse?

  • tony says:

    What time is Toms show?.

  • mark says:

wonder who’s balls will be bouncing on Thursday!!
Glad to see Carson got balls to stand in own his trial………….
wonder if he came on a white horse maybe, not his usual pope mobile for safety reasons….. the shackles are now off, is this the return of lone ranger rides again………………..they keep hitting him but he keeps come back, my my you have admire him, and he not even convicted yet…………………wow

  • mark says:

before all jump on the bandwagon step forward all those who have been goody, goody in their lives he who cast the first stone…………gosh i have gone all biblical………………….

  • Blue92 says:

Tom Ross hasn’t got a clue I could make up half the rubbish he comes out with,

  • Shergar says:

Tom Ross is a well respected broadcast journalist & has worked with and mentored some of the best you really think he would put his rep on the line if he didn’t have a clue? Watch this space

    • BeeGeeBlueBoy says:

WRJ? What is your source for that? He’s popular among many Blues fans for obvious reasons. I met him ost tnce in the 80’s and he came across as a genuine guy but in the TF years at Wast Hills he seemed quite distance.

I don’t now if he’s done formal journalist, s interviews but to me sycophantic interviews suggest not. The goings on at BCFC post CCFW was a great missed opportunity to prove me wrong and make a name for himself

  • Art Watson says:

Sorry to say “he’s already put his reputation on the line by continuing to drop out snippets of information which to date have not materialised…..he’s looking a bit foolish at the moment and perhaps someone with their own agenda is deliberately feeding him BS.

He should just keep his mouth shut until the HK stock exchange has been notified that a formal bid has been lodged.

  • Agent McLeish says:

The CY story has made the Washington Post! So nothing mentioned in the London & Prem biased English national press but the story makes a major quality US newspaper! http://tinyurl.com/nvbwl95

  • kures says:

All I wanna know is when is the verdict going to come?

  • Rich Roberts says:

Thanks for keeping us upto date on this great to hear some truth for a change and not what the club wants us to hear (which is nothing).

  • Frankie says:

Yeung continues to ‘preen’ himself in perhaps a last act of his vanity.
Clock is ticking down to ‘judgement day’ and he knows it.
This trial really ought to have been ‘done and dusted’ in 3 weeks as the evidence seems to have been more Jackanory than High Court.

  • mark says:

i bet he showed some nice photo of jackie chan haircut do’s i bet that impressed the judge……..

  • mark says:

all these little impressions go along way to in getting you off money laundering charges, did you not know that!!

Seriously Dan keep up the magnificent work……. are you back for the Leeds game?

  • peakblue says:

“…In 1999, Yeung set up the Cock and Bull research company to look into the stock market. He said: “[The company] lets me have a deeper understanding of the stock market.”….

  • Shergar says:

If anyone wants to pop round for a hair cut I’ll buy blues with the profits £10 per head and a local celeb like Astro I’ll be a millionaire & buy us Ronaldo
