Postcards From HK: The Cantonese Press
Finding out match report details from Birmingham City’s excellent comeback win over Blackpool is a little bit tricky in the newspapers over here as there isn’t much coverage but Blues have made the papers here today in relation to the protest flags over the past few weeks.
The above photo is taken of today’s (February 23) edition of Ming Pao and as you can see my lovely mug is also gracing the page as they have used quotes from an interview I gave them last year. You can read the interview here, along with a comment about my sartorial elegance…
As I said when I did the interview, I tried to make it plain that I had no personal beef with Carson – his reign did coincide with some of the best memories I have of being a Blues fan. However, it’s clear that the reporter also took into account what has been said online, mentioning “the Carson song” and the postcards that were sent to Barker Road last year.
Whether it will do anything is another matter. The impression I get is that Carson will only sell the club when he is good and ready, for the price he wants and to a party he wants to do business with. I’ve made some enquiries with regards to the Beijing media business that are to buy 12% (although no announcement confirming the deal has been made and the deadline for payment was yesterday) and I’m hopeful of being able to post some further details at some point this week.

I thought I read somewhere that Carson had diluted his BIHL shareholding by selling some shares – is that correct?
Reduced not diluted
Has the % of his share reduced because of the additional share issue?
Could the new potential share holders now run for the hills (as well as any further investors) due to adverse publicity caused by the negativity of this campaign by fans? :-(
Not until the convertible notes are converted to equity. He has sold some shares.
Well we have been waiting for this media coverage.
Timing wise it is good, BIHL can sell soon once their oil prospecting starts. And Carsen may well be behind bars soon.
Good work Dan. From small acorns..
Hi Quokka (gotta be in WA?) – BIHL is not going oil prospecting with its purchase of the Indo outfit; they don’t drill – they supply analysis and measuring services to those that do.
“….Daniel often wearing a straw hat, wearing a T-shirt to court hearings, and therefore particularly prominent…”
Is there some kind of subliminal message with your choice of headgear?
Not at all. It’s my travelling hat
Reading that report, you can understand the difficulty with translation, Well done, Daniel. Shame that the disgusting language got so much publicity, but that was always going to be the case.
Do you think it we will hear the out come on 28th or do you think will take longer than a day to hear the verdict? .
No, I am expecting the verdict on the 28th
Nice beard m8, I’m in the process of growing 1myself “not as good as yours though” anyway have you thought that with all this renewed interest from investors that blues have got a chance of some very good investment &would it be a step to far to think we may even do rather well out of all this???
Kro sotv
Mayor,Is this the first time that these actual protest pictures have been shown in the Hong Kong/Chinese press?
No, they were in the SCMP after the Derby game. You should pay more attention to what is posted online fella.
People have other things going on in there lives as well you know mayor,we can’t keep a tab on everything that goes on…….roll on the 28th and here’s hoping..,
The amount you go on about it Mickey I thought you’d have noticed when someone posted something about it in the comments here mate.
Is Carson aware of the disdain against him among the supporters ? Do you think he is aware of the protests against his ownership of the club? If he is , i doubt he gives a twopenny cus. He has mega bucks invested in the club and in the words of the song “we dont care about Carson, He dont care about us” If he is oblivious of any of the fans feelings let re-itterate “your about as welcome as a rattlesnake in a Lucky Dip over here mate!
I can’t help thinking we don’t just kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, we have to humiliate it first!
Still if we want change we need to force it I suppose.
Goose that lays the golden eggs? When did Carson lay any golden eggs??
I just hope it will encourage investment, or sale of club
not make cy dig his heels in
great blog and reporting though
Three big days coming up:
27 February 2014: Third anniversary of the League Cup victory
28 February 2014: Carson Yeung verdict
1 March 2014: Ipswich v Birmingham City
Well two big days
When reading the interview, who is Yanghwajin two balls? :) kro
you not miss anything Daniel other the Novak knockers have gone awfully quiet…………….dont you just love it……………….
Don’t forget the Zigic knockers as well, Mark.
he had tremendous game effort, desire, passion magnificent………………….never moaned when ask to fill other positions 100% commitment………….kro
Yawn zzz
dont you just love hard working players giving their all Mr Crosby must admit a never get tired watching players putting the effort in unlike some I might add. kro
I can’t tell you how much I look forward to your intelligent in-put mr crosby.
Try?
sorry Daniel should have noted your picture, there me thinking you were a suit……….lol
Glad you arrived safely Dan.
The atmosphere at Blackpool was once again tremendous and of course so was the result.
Since the paper published their report on the protests do you think they will follow up for a reaction from Carson Yeung or could it enhance your chances of having a proper in-depth interview with him?
Bet you look like “Our man from Havana” in your straw hat, very suave and dignified.
Good luck with your endeavours and look forward to your “Postcards from Hong Kong”, reports, especially Fridays on the verdict.
Will you be back for the Q>P>R game when the new flag is hopefully unfurled?

Why can’t we get the same crowd support at St Andrews then maybe we would get the results? Once again we were a changed team with Zigic, and the other subs were also spot-on. If we could play the same 11 that finished the game, at Ipswich and then against QPR at home and get 4-6 pts out of the 2 games I reckon we would almost be safe.
Clark thinking of changing the dressing room at the stans to away end., and the home support for our away problem solved I did lol.
“our man in hong kong” as become “our man in Havana hat” thanks for the update dan regardless of what happens Friday carson is only going to sell the club on his terms if he sells at all !! enjoy your no 8 on the menu with fried rice and prawn crackers. k.r.o. delay no more.
Its baffling why we perform away and stutter at home, it can only be the players feeling additional pressure at Stans. I also think Elsie shows flashes of tactical genius (Blackpool second half) and tactical naivety (home to Huddersfield whole game) I think we need to settle on a best 11 and try to get asome consistency.
Settle on a best eleven, christ were almost in march Steve. Just the same as last year.
And tell me Tony how many of the current (fit) squad were available to Clark in August, September or October?
Give it a rest pal it’s utterly dull and has no merit..
The man who made the difference Big Zig
Yes Tony ziggy did okay with the only manager willing to kick his arse if he drops below the standards neccessary…….thats why we see the best out ziggy until.he gone imo………
Utter rubbish Mark…What the tactical genius Clark has never got his head around is we are a much better team with Zigic in it.
Blackpool being the very latest example,
He should be the first name on the team sheet.
No chance blueboy, if you think that you haven’t watched us this season!
First name on the team sheet? Hardly. Zigic is a nuisance at best. He still can’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo from 3 feet. He is, and always has been more useful off the bench later in games. For all his knockers, if it wasn’t for Novak, we might have lost on Saturday.
If we survive lee Clarke will have done an excellent job
and i believe we will survive i just pray hes given financial support next
season to build a team not just around loan players
Rhees you are right he has done a superb job circumstance considered.
And we WILL be a Championship side next season. You can take that to the bank!
Yes bluenoseneil i believe so too
i just hope next season we have a team of our players not loan players.
im not knocking them they have done us proud but
dosnt feel right
Unfortunately rhees, I can’t see next season being any different. I think it will be the usual loans and freebies Clark has to find to try to drag us through another season. The best we can hope for, is that he only has to find one team next season, instead of the usual two.
I know what you mean bluenoseneil but we live in hope
and i have a little feeling things might change,
or it may be wishfull thinking.lol
I think Novak deserves a pat on the back too and its good to have the ever versatile Specs back.
I wasn’t a Novak fan,but he’s winning me over.
I have a strong feeling that Birmingham City’s obvious trust from Premiership clubs with their youngsters, such as Ravel Morrison, ant the latest crop from Man City, Man U and Liverpool that things are about to change, and that people behind the scenes are waiting for the demise of CY on the 28th to move in and rescue the club. KRO
great day saturday, sunshine, beers good company, great win after dull first half but
the police were a nightmare and brought on a lot of the trouble in the ground with there
heavy hand tactics…no wonder blues fans responded by fighting with stewards and
recking the toilet areas after stewards stormed in and started punching innocent blues
fans and throwing fans out of the ground for no apparent reason…..disgracefull !!!!!! KRO.
Have to agree Dave, the police were looking for trouble and made their own.
First time I have seen this sort of intimidation this season at any game, the only one I have missed is Wigan.
However, the Police action will not hit the headlines but Blues fans will for all the wrong reasons.
It was a great weekend, the Blues fans were in good humour in the pub I was in near the opposite the ground and in Molloys after the game….
KRO+DNM
Sounds like were going back to the 80s Dave Zulus etc.
Wishing you all the best for your last week in HK Dan.
Dave – did you personally witness our supporters’ jaws callously striking the innocently clenched fists of Blackpool stewards?
Nothing lasts for ever, this time next season Carson, Clark and many of the team will be gone. What they’re replaced with is anyone’s guess tho’.
Be careful what you wish for . Have a read on a few of Black[pools Fans Forums.
