Referee Watch – Dean Whitestone

Barring any late changes, Dean Whitestone of Northamptonshire will be in the middle for Blues’ Championship game against Reading at St Andrew’s today. Here is a look at his stats.

Season Performance

Mr Whitestone has taken charge of twenty-seven games so far this season, showing seventy-six yellow cards and four reds. Of those games, five have been in the Championship and in those games Mr Whitestone has handed out thirteen cautions.

Last Blues Match Refereed

The last game Mr Whitestone officiated involving Blues was the 3-2 defeat in the League Cup last season to Coventry. In that game Mr Whitestone booked four players – William Edjenguele and Cody McDonald of Coventry City along with Hayden Mullins and Morgaro Gomis of Blues. Mr Whitestone didn’t merit a mention in my match report of that game.

Last Championship Game Refereed

The last game at this level that Mr Whitestone took charge of was the game between Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool on New Year’s Day. That game finished with three yellow cards – Roger Johnson and Jacques Maghoma of Wednesday along with Ricardo Fuller of Blackpool being the men booked.

Suspension Watch

13 yellow cards – Paul Robinson (two suspensions served)
5 yellow cards –  Jonathan Spector and Olly Lee
4 yellow cards –  Federico Macheda
3 yellow cards – Paul Caddis, Neal Eardley, Tom Adeyemi,  Lee Novak, and Nikola Zigic
2 yellow cards – Callum Reilly, Mitch Hancox, and Shane Ferguson
1 yellow card –   Koby Arthur,  Matt Green,  Colin Doyle, Darren Randolph, Chris Burke, Emyr Huws, Brian Howard, Albert Rusnak and Andrew Shinnie

The “cut-off” point where a fifth yellow card will no longer attract a suspension is after December 31 2013 and the point where a tenth yellow card will no longer attract a suspension is after April 13 2014. If a player collects fifteen yellow cards before the end of the season they will attract a three match ban.
