The Lisbon Dance: Blues Ladies v Tyresö FF Preview
Tomorrow sees Birmingham City Ladies take on Tyresö FF of the Damallsvenskan in the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi final. The Blues ladies are just two matches away from the showpiece final in Lisbon next month and will be hoping for a good result to take to Sweden next week.
Due to the pileup of home fixtures over the next few days, the game will not be played at St Andrews as in the previous two rounds but will be played at Solihull Moors’ Autotech Stadium on Damson Parkway – the new home of the Ladies team this season. The match, which kicks off at 2pm is priced at £6 for adults and £3 for concessions with limited matchday hospitality also available.
Blues Ladies go into the game unbeaten in four games so far this season having beaten Arsenal home and away in the previous round of the Champions League along with a 3-1 win over Doncaster Belles in the FA Women’s Cup and a 0-0 draw with Everton. The game against Everton marked the first game this season that new signing Remi Allen hasn’t scored in with the former Lincoln playing bagging a goal in each of her first three starts for the Blues Ladies.
Tyresö FF qualified for the semifinals having beaten Austrian side Neulengbach 8-1 in their quarter-final, with all the games coming in the home leg at Tyresövallen. However, they lost their opening league game away to Kristianstad 2-0 last Sunday and Blues should take heart that the Swedes who start as hot favourites don’t appear to be as good on the road as they do on their home turf.
Tyresö FF coach Tony Gustavsson has talked about how the Swedish team are still chasing their dream – like Blues Ladies this is the furthest that they have ever got in this competition. They go into the game knowing that June will see their brightest stars Brazillian Marta and captain Caroline Seger depart as the club continues its financial reconstruction.
As I cannot travel to Nottingham this weekend I’ll be reporting on the game from Solihull and should be live tweeting action via the @often_partisan twitter account.

If they played as they did against Arsenal they should be able to take a comfortable lead to Sweden.
Still hoping to get a ticket for Forest tomorrow if not I shall come across to support the Ladies XI
KRO+DNM
Very much hope the ladies can go all the way now, arsenal I believe was their biggest threat they dealt very well against them. You get to the final on merit IMO they must believe in themselves. Good luck ladies
Not for me but good luck to them after all they carry the clubs name.
Looking forward to taking my God daughter and converting her to the Blues cause!
Great achievement and hope they make the final.
Good luck everyone.
Wishing the Ladies a good home win in the 1st leg of their semi, !!.
