Huddersfield Preview in Association with EZE Group

Gary Rowett’s resurgent Birmingham City face Huddersfield on Saturday as they look to push on for a place in the top 10 having taken seven points from their last three league games.

Huddersfield Town

The Terriers aren’t in the best shape at the moment, having lost their last three games, scoring one goal and conceding nine. They lie in 17th place, four points behind Blues and know that another defeat could see them pulled into the bottom six.

Nakhi Wells is only in non-contact training at the moment and in all likelihood won’t be risked while winger Harry Bunn is sidelined with a hamstring problem. David Edgar also sits this one out as he is ineligible to play against Blues due to the terms of his loan agreement.

Blues

Stephen Gleeson completes his three match ban with this game meaning that Robert Tesche will continue partnering David Davis in midfield. With Callum Reilly having joined Burton Albion on loan there is a space opened up on the bench which could be filled by Reece Brown who has impressed of late in training. Mark Duffy could also come into contention; Koby Arthur remains sidelined with an injury.

Gary Rowett has impressed on his charges that he wants no let up in their intensity and I think he’s ready to shake it up if players continue to coast. I think Clayton Donaldson will come back in for Lee Novak but the big question is what to do on the wings; David Cotterill has been very poor of late, Lloyd Dyer hasn’t impressed and Dimmi Gray looks burdened with the weight of expectation upon him. I think we might see a surprise in Mark Duffy being included; I’d also like to see Reece Brown tried out in the role behind the striker but I think he’ll have to make do with a place on the bench.

Blues are as high as 6/5 with BetVictor to win the game although if you are pessmistic the draw is 13/5. Jonathan Grounds is 11/1 to be anytime goalscorer and I have a feeling he’s going to score soon with a header from a corner; alternatively Tesche is 11/2 to open his account for Blues against Huddersfield.

There’s no danger of relegation so the pressure should be off and Huddersfield are the ones under immense pressure if they loose, ime going 4-1 with Teache getting of the mark in a comfortable win and top half of the table again, fingers crossed!! Kro

  • mark says:

the way carson luck going i bet he would fancy a bet with betvictor…………comfortable 3-1 lol

  • Tony E says:

We are not great at breaking down teams who sit deep, something I fully expect Huddersfield to do. I think we will win, but only narrowly. 1 – 0 to Blues.

  • mark says:

agreed Daniel GR could possibly freshen up without the danger on relegation looming reece is a worthy punt now to try out….imo

  • StaffsBlue says:

We should beat this lot without any worry… but this is Blues after all. Every time we’ve had a chance to crack the top 10 this season, we’ve blown it. Every single time. So, although it should be a comfortable 3 points, I would put any money on it. One good thing about this game, at least Adam Clayton isn’t around anymore to dominate the game, like last season.

One point about David Cotterill, the manager says he’s back to his brightest since he was left out (for one game.) I don’t think there are many Blues fans who would agree with him.

I don’t think there’ll be any surprises team-wise. Randolph, Caddis, Spector, Kiernan, Grounds, Cotterill, Tesche, Davis, Gray, Shinnie, Donaldson.

    • mark says:

well without the fear of relegation staffs is time to freshen up the team??? you appeared to have called a good line up for today. But just keep a few players on their toes a bit reece for me, maybe give gray a rest……kro or least give reece a 20 mins introduction in the second half….

      • StaffsBlue says:

Me too mark, but the manager doesn’t seem to think that way. Most of the team are doing well, but they’ve been carrying the wingers for weeks now. That’s why our system has been breaking down.

        • StaffsBlue says:

If I had to make a change, I’d bring Duffy in on the right and switch Cotterill over to the left, (which is where he prefers to play, so he can cut inside and have a pop.) Duffy is the most direct winger we have and deserves a chance after being ignored the whole season.

    • staffs is never wrong says:

The one’s that go every week won’t be surprised anyway.

  • mark says:

Birmingham have conceded in 75% of their last 20 home games.

Birmingham have scored in 60% of their last 20 home games.

In their last 20 home matches against teams positioned below them in the table, Birmingham have scored 1.5 goals per game and conceded 1.0 goals per game on average

  • Raymondo says:

After all that’s gone on this week some football to talk about will be a welcome change!

  • Dave Mann says:

It will be the same team I think as what staffs said but certainly give brown and Duffy a run out at some time but please whatever happens lets keep dyer on the bench at least or give him the rest of the season off and I’ve got a funny feeling that the big man might also score today if he gets on !! Kro

    • StaffsBlue says:

Over the last half a dozen games or more, neither Cotterill or Gray have earned their places in the starting XI. As for Dyer, he hasn’t earned a place in the squad, let alone the first XI. Players waiting for their chance must get proper pi$$ed off when they see that.

    • StaffsBlue says:

Same team as normal today. Randy, Cadds, Specs, Kiernan, Grounds, Cotterill, Tesche, Davis, Gray, Shinnie and Donaldson.

  • Dave Mann says:

The problem we’ve got is that when you pick our best which I see as Randolph, caddis, grounds, Kiernan , Morrison, Davis, Teache , cotterill, gray , shinnie and Donaldson then that only leaves zigic , Thomas, Novak , brown , Gleeson, Duffy and Spector to come off the bench to change things and besides brown and Duffy they’ve all had a go at some time … My point is that if its not broke dont try to fix it or change it just for the sake of it .., 2points more than last season and still 10 games to play …. Ime quite happy the way things have gone on the pitch but off the pitch !!!!! .. Nightmare after nightmare ! Kto

    • StaffsBlue says:

It’s not broke Dave, or anywhere near it, but it is stumbling a bit because our system relies on our wingers breaking and setting up chances for a lone frontman. So if the wingers aren’t 95-100% on their game, that lone frontman (and the likes of Shinnie) are starved of service. Unfortunately, that’s what can happen with this system. Wonder if he’ll shock us and go 4-4-2 today?

    • mark says:

As a free thinking manager you need be prepared for all eventuality Dave….this is GR first season in Championship there he against wisely old fox’s in managers in there…..he’s the new kid on the block….this has been in general a good transition for GR at the moment. At some stage he will challenged when things dont go his way…………

  • Shirley Blue says:

I quite like the idea of switching Cotterill to the left and giving Duffy a start. Gray can come on later against tired defenders. Cotterill has been a bit off the last month or so but to come from a relegated team, score 7 goals and is probably top of the assists table – that isn’t bad going. For me he has been a major success this season and he has played a lot of games so maybe tiredness is starting to have an affect.

    • StaffsBlue says:

Although Cotterill gets the odd decent cross in, he’s not really the kind of winger Rowett is using him as. He’s more used to playing on the left. He’s made a career of running at defenders, cutting inside and shooting. I’m sure if he’d played the majority of games on the left, he’d have doubled his current goal tally by now.

  • Dave Mann says:

I would love to see 4-4-2 staffs but rowett loves this system and plays the ones who fit that system … I can’t see why we can’t play Thomas and Donaldson up front with cotterill and gray out wide and then two in the middle from shinnie, Davis, Gleeson and Teache but my only problem would be that shinnie would miss out in a 4-4-2 and he’s our best footballer in my opinion so it’s horses for coarses and with the way cotterill and gray are playing at the moment why not try 4-3-3 and be the wingless wonders !! Kro

  • mark says:

i have decided to change my scoreline its going to be 1-1 with five yellows and one red……it one of those days today…….

  • Mirkwood55 says:

Wish people would stop saying we have no fear of relegation. This is Blues we’re talking about and we’re only free of going down when we are four points clear with one game left!!!

    • Dave Mann says:

Wish people would stop being bloody negative and insist that we can still go down … No chance pal , more chance of Blackpool staying up .. Keep the faith son !! Kro

    • Shirley Blue says:

The only way we will get relegated is if their is a points deduction. I would like to see us drive on and get more than 60 points. Firstly then we would still be safe if the FL did do the dirty on us and 60 points is what we got in LC’s first season. Also it would set the standard for next season.

      • StaffsBlue says:

There are 30 points left to play for. Even if we won half of those (eg all our home games) that would push us past the 60 point mark. I can’t see us not doing that tbh.

  • Bluenose says:

Coterills been our best player/provider this season so he warrants his place in my opinion, gray in for dyer after his poor performance against derby, donny up top and reckon we’ll see robinson back in the team as captain! In the tilton as usual KRO !

    • Shirley Blue says:

Robbo has done us a great job over the last couple of years but it’s time to move forward and not be relying on a 38 year old ex left back in central defence who is very easily exposed to pace now. Would you really drop Kiernan for him now?

      • StaffsBlue says:

Rowett reckons that Robbo will be back in the starting XI sooner rather than later.. and as captain. Going on that, it’ll be one of Morrison, Kiernan or Spector to partner him. Can’t see the sense in that personally.

    • steve says:

Disagree. Cotterilll,Gray and Dyer are not performing at the moment and that is costing us.,Dyer is living up to his name.

  • BluesBlues says:

Just enjoy today along with the other 15K or so it’s nice not to be involved in the relegation battle. Huddersfeild will try and hit us on the break and play for a point therefore we need to score first. Blues to win two nil onwards and upwards KRO

  • bluenose08 says:

Went to my first game in a while as I have to work on matchdays but on holiday this week. Was a big improvement on the lee clark era but I guess that’s not hard. Sitting in the tilton looking down I was impressed with jonathan spectres performance, also dare I say it but ziggy showed his class when he came on with some nice lay-offs and wondered what would have happened if he had been put on earlier ! Would have liked more noise from the crowd as it seemed a bit Quiet !
    kro.

    • Shirley Blue says:

I thought we looked threatening for the first 20 minutes of the second half but lost any momentum going forward with the substitutions. Dyer once again was dreadful when he came on. He was in a great position to cross the ball late on but just smashed it into the side netting. I would send him back to Watford.

  • steve says:

Agree about Dyer, but i think we’re stuck with him for the season.

  • Dave Mann says:

Dissapointed with yesterday’s result because when cotterill scored on 10 mins I thought we would go on and win easily but that something as experienced as I am watching blues should know that it ain’t gonna happen and 1-1 was a bit of an anti climax to be honest , it’s another point and now look forward to our trip to South Wales next Saturday and my first visit to the Cardiff city stadium so 47 points 9 games left so lets enjoy the rest of a season that unusually for us is going to be none stressfull !!
