GAMEDAY – Burnley at home
Blues play the second of three consecutive games at home hoping to turn round a wretched run of recent form against promotion hopefuls Burnley.
Burnley
Brighton’s 5-0 win last night means that Burnley start the morning in third place on 80 points – six places and 21 points better off than Blues. They’re unbeaten in the league in 2016 – a sequence of 18 games since last losing on Boxing Day to Hull and have only failed to score once in their last eleven games.
Sam Vokes is a doubt for Burnley while Lukas Jutkiewicz is still unavailable.
Blues
Blues have a fit squad barring Neal Eardley but Gary Rowett is unlikely to experiment. He’s suggested that Clayton Donaldson will start in front of Kyle Lafferty and I wouldn’t be surprised if Diego Fabbrini gets a run in behind the Jamaican striker as Rowett looks to next year.
Will Buckley and Paul Robinson are unlikely to be in the squad.
Ref
Mark Heywood is in the middle for this game. He’s shown 77 yellow card and five reds in 23 games so far this season, with his last Blues game being the 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest that saw six players booked including Stephen Gleeson, Maikel Kieftenbeld, Jon Toral and David Cotterill for Blues.
Suspension Watch
One red card (three match suspension served): James Vaughan
9 Yellow Cards: Maikel Kieftenbeld
8 Yellow Cards: Stephen Gleeson
7 Yellow Cards: Jonathan Grounds
6 Yellow Cards: Diego Fabbrini, David Davis and Paul Caddis
5 Yellow Cards: Jon Toral and Michael Morrison
4 Yellow Cards: Clayton Donaldson and Paul Robinson
3 Yellow Cards: David Cotterill and James Vaughan
2 Yellow Cards: Jonathan Spector and Neal Eardley
1 Yellow Card: Tomasz Kuszczak and Kyle Lafferty
The cutoff date for 5 yellow cards to attract a suspension was November 30, 2015
The cutoff date for 10 yellow cards to attract a suspension was March 13, 2016

This is not the game to be blooding youngsters. It has to be our strongest 11 for this game, that means leaving Gleeson out, because they’d just run past or through him. We need to be solid in there against Barton and Jones. We need Shotton’s height in there, because there will be a lot of crosses coming in from the wings. I can’t see anything more than a draw today (although, I hope they prove me wrong.) I’m going for 2-2… depending on which Birmingham City turn up.

Caddis Morrison Shotton Grounds
Kieftenbeld Davis
Cotterill Toral Maghoma

Only position I got wrong was goalkeeper. Legzdins keeps his place.
It should be that team and formation but will Rowett throw something out there to supprise us ? Maybe not but let’s hope the bench is more interesting .. Another 1-2 defeat for me but my mind will be otherwise occupied . KRO
I suppose he could persist with the 4-3-3… as that was so successful on Tuesday.
I’d agree with that but replace Maghoma.
With whom?
I should play Brown , like the rest of the team he is used to turning up late in the first half , ha ha. ha
Oooo… sad, but true.
I agree with Staffs Blue, go with strongest side, the likes of Barton will put a cheeky foot in at some stage of the game.
But on the other side will GR surprise us all with an up and coming youngster to give him a baptism of fire.
2-2 (If we are lucky)
Does anybody know of what players GR may be looking at for next season?
There have been no indicators so far… though I wouldn’t be surprised to see a cheeky try at getting Tesche in again.
Maybe ones that can pass, dribble , Run, defend and score goals would be a good starting point Pods !! Only kidding mate but is signings up to know haven’t been great so who knows ! KRO
Get rid of Grounds, he’s s***!!!!!
Yes, Tesche would be a good addition which may give some confidence to Fabbrini.
There is going to be a lot of players who”s contracts will not be renewed, so GR may find a hidden gem from somewhere,
This could be a long close season
KRO
… and possibly a very interesting one all round.
Blues 0 Burnley 2
Blues 2 Burnley 1. Teams in claret n blue seldom beat us. KRO.
Tesche is a player we certainly do not want. Yes, last season he was good for us -like Fabrinni-but he has been injured and now fit does not get into their poor starting eleven. Forest fans I know cannot understand what he has ever brought to their team even before he came to us. Cautious maybe but let’s not go down the same route as we did for Fabrinni.
Blues 4 -Burnley 0…….
Keep taking the tablets…..
10 shots at goal to burnleys 3 excellent since Burnley’s goal come on super blues …
21 shots at goal to 2nd place Burnley’s 11 and 5 shots on target to Burnley’s three we hit the post ,that’s unlucky , should be gutted but GR has shown us in this game where we are and hey , we ain’t that far away ,we were as good as Burnley if not better , KRO
21 shots on goal and scored once explains it all. Time to move Donaldo on i think.
Thought we were the better side throughout, again some poor refereeing decisions & to cap it sending off Toral even though he didn’t touch Dyer!! Blues played well my only moan would be the substitutions as I thought Magoma & Cotterill both played well and couldn’t understand why Rowett took both off.
Good game today i thought we were excellent throughout. Rowett went for the game by putting a creative player and an out and out striker on. I think thats what the subs were about. Cotterills delivery wasn’t brilliant and Maghoma was average.
I thought Cotterill & Magoma had good games and when they were taken off we lost the width!! The games about opinions but mines the only one that counts.
Not in my opinion
Absolutely spot on. The substitutions were brainless for me. If he was going to take Cotterill off, he should have put V S-O on. We were on top for the majority of the game until then. We still had every chance of pulling it back until the subs. We lost all our width and any attacking threat we had.
Maghoma has been too inconsistant for me,the reason he hasn’t played more. Missed a sitter that could have changed the game. Doesn’t track back enough and shit marking a set pieces. Yesterday, his nor Cotterill’s crosses caused enough problems. Nine times out of ten they went straight to a Burnley player to clear.
