The Carson Trial: Final Appeal, Day 3

Carson’s final appeal hearings against his convictions for money laundering finished today with an adjournment until the judgement is handed down.

Courtesy Ming Pao

The hearings were concluded this morning with the panel of five judges adjourning until judgement being passed down. No date has been set for this as of yet but based on past court hearings I would guesstimate around six weeks for this be processed, meaning Carson will know his final fate around the middle of July.

By then, it should be nothing more than a footnote to the recent history of the club. Deals concluded with Carson, U-Continent and Pannu have meant that Ernst and Young can move forwards to restructuring ownership of the club, with all proposals required to be granted shareholder approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on a date which has yet to be fixed.

Sources close to this website have advised that with the necessary paperwork to be completed, the EGM may not be held until July with the proposals then being put into place immediately after. It’s been speculated (although not confirmed) that following the EGM Paul Suen Cho Hung and Trillion Trophy Asia will be in control of Birmingham International Holdings, both in the board room and as largest shareholders.

Carson remains on bail until the appeal judgement is handed down.

Dan, Do you know if there is any recourse for CY if he is successful in his appeal? There has been cost and pain not only for him but of course for all of us as a result of this, and I wondered if would be in a position to take legal action?

  • Dave Mann says:

Hopefully come the middle of July when it’s my birthday I might have something more to celebrate than usual . happy days round the corner maybe ? .. Let’s all hope so ! KRO

  • ROB says:

Thank you again for all the updates

  • ChrisG says:

I wish they’d get a move on with the EGM. It would be interesting to see how much (if anything) TTA are willing to stump up for any transfers & also if any transfer figure has been discussed with GR & that’s why he’s saying that deals will be done later rather than sooner.
Dan have you any idea how long they plan to hold on to BCFC once the takeover of BIH is complete?.

  • steve says:

You’ve said in the past Dan that you think he’ll be cleared.Do you still think the same ?

  • zxcv says:

Think we can safely say that Paul Suen Cho Hung it is then, and as the largest Share holder. We just need E&Y to tell us and their Share holders a little bit about our new Board and directors and I am sure that would be the catalyst for Bcfc Supporter everywhere who have been waiting for that kind of announcement to make them feel easy about investing their hard earned cash in a Season Ticket with renewed excitement for the future. I for one am very comfortable with Paul Suen even though we have little information about him I just feel he has lots of Business experience and I like the fact he does not go chasing the lime light, that’s good. So I would just say to E&Y you have done an amazing job in sorting this mess out and please give us your thoughts on our new Future with Paul Suen Cho Hung at the helm,. and hopefully eventual owner. oh and a big, big, thanks to Dan and this site for all the hard work put in to keep us all informed as it has. KRO.

  • ian says:

Good luck to all and thanks to Dan

Dan, thanks again for the updates.

Anything interesting said in court today?

    KRO to the EGM

  • Bluesy6 says:

Just a thought, but I wonder if any transfer activity will be held up until G.R knows how much is going to be/added in/to the pot

  • Bluesy6 says:

0h and thanks Dan for all your hard graft.

  • rhees says:

Thanks Dan the egm will be interesting
Footnote wonder if there’s any truth in rumour were signing sono aluko from hull and what people think
Of him. Ex blues I believe

    Cheers Daniel.

  • Alex T says:

I haven’t seen reference to the fit & proper person test that I assume Paul Suen Cho Hung would have to pass? I know its probably only a formality, but its still something that could hold up the process of having new owners…

P.s. Sone Aluko would be a great addition for me :)

  • Mitchell says:

Aluko looks bright and pacy but sadly doesn’t score many goals. However, just get that feeling he may come good with us second time around.Steve Bruce will have no doubt recommended him to GR and if so that will do for me.

  • williammorgan says:

Aluko seems to have the ability but for some reason doesn’t score many , perhaps he plays down the flanks too much , he is worth buying any way…..

  • KC says:

Thanks Dan for covering all 3 days and being so precise with the information.

  • atko says:

Just read that Chelsea might be interested in Demari Grey from Leicester. Does anyone know if Blues receive any fee if it happened? Just curious, nothing concrete yet, it might just be media talk although cannot see Leicester wanting to let him go so soon but I guess everyone has their price.

  • Blue Eyed Boy says:

So can we please close the door on CY,Pannu and the rest of them for good and move on from the last 6+ years of gong no where?

    • bhamcityjulian says:

Up to and including the CCFW2016 thing looked good on the surface. Ironically as bad as it been since if we had avoided relegation perhaps we would have splashed out beyond our means and then become a Portsmouth after a few years mismanagement

    • Dave Mann says:

We have won a major trophy in those last 6 years mate which is the ONLY major trophy of note in our history …please remember that when saying them wasted years ! KRO

  • williammorgan says:

Perhaps the time wasted BEB has given Bluenoses a hunger to do well more than ever before , and the transfer window doesn’t end till the end of august , so who knows what might be …

  • Blue Eyed Boy says:

Lets hope so WM,onwards and upwards! Just hope the new owners can give us real hope and serious investment then watch us go – There’s a big opportunity for Blues but needs to be on a large scale KRO

    • Mitchell says:

Totally agree Blue Eyed Boy. Time to move on and hope our new owners have the necessary clout to make us into a decent club. Recruitment over the next 6weeks will be vital as when you look at our Champ.table it is quite daunting and at the current level of our squad-hard to find more than 4/5 clubs of lesser quality.

  • Bluesy6 says:

Yes Mitchell I agree with your point of view. even the so called lesser clubs are stepping up to the plate with bigger budgets these days and with a lot changing managers it is going to be a very hard league this season.
I would say at the moment that if we could manage a mid table spot that would be acceptable, it is early days yet and still a lot of sorting out to be done before we know what the outcome will be for BCFC. As I have said previously G.R. will know what budget he has to work with it will be interesting to see what if anything is added to it when the take over goes through. in the meantime speculation continues but reality to the situation needs to be kick in.
I would not want any one telling me how to spend my money and the new owners may be of that opinion also, time will tell, lets hope that this sorry era for the club will soon be over and as previously said by BEB the club/fans can move on positively.

  • Dave Mann says:

Vile appoint Di Matteo as manager … I wish them all the luck in the world because they will need it and let’s hope it’s all BAD !! KRO

  • Mirkwood55 says:

If the club are spending 450k on developing Wast Hills then a) there must be money somewhere and b) someone up above must have sanctioned the expenditure. Does that give us hope for some activity in the transfer market?

  • Dave Mann says:

5 different managers appointed in the championship this week .. This league more than any seems to be the graveyard of sackings because of the pressure involved for promotion to the richest league in world football .. Gary as his work cut out one thinks and IF we do get money and players in who can walk in to the team then the pressure from US fans in particular will intense massively . KRO

  • kirkus says:

Very true the cheque book will be our yardstick this season for hopes and expectations

  • atko says:

I think Gary has an excellent relationship with the Chairman who is a good businessman. He knows that by sacking Gary Rowett that will cost Blues money then a new manager is going to have to be found & funds found to keep him quiet. Personally I think Gary Rowett will be here for a good 5 years provided he doesn’t want to leave of course. I just don’t see the club causing more instability unless the management team did something disastrously wrong & I cannot see that happening. If anything the management team are too cautious for that to happen!

  • Dave Mann says:

Within those five years atko I would be staggered if Rowett is still our manager .. Absolutely gob smacked .. Yes he might leave but he will certainly be sacked by then .. It’s the championship or the premiership over those years so time will tell but Ime generally certain that will be the case . KRO

  • williammorgan says:

I shouldn’t think TTA will be lenient on failure from any manager , they want success as much as the fans , I should think they will give GR a chance but they will want entertaining football what ever he system to attract TV rights in China , which will mean a reasonable outlay to start with for players to get a good first team followed by a smaller investment for bringing in young players on as a second tier of players like Maxwell to replace those young players we have sold and those at careers end ..

    • Hillfield Blues says:

TTA are not going to be around for long imo. They are venture capitalists who restructure distressed companies and sell them on at a profit.TTA have an established relationship with E&Y and have done this many times before, that’s why they were chosen as the preferred bidder to start with. They have no football background whatsoever and I reckon they will throw just about enough money at Blues to make them competitive as far as transfers are concerned, then sell. With the time it’s taken to get this far,my hope is that they have a buyer lined up already.

    • Waycoolblue says:

TTA IMO are coming to flip the club for profit . I imagine they will want to improve the club top to bottom. Witch would push the value up I am expecting them to invest in player to get Birmingham to the premiership witch would push the vale up much more than it is now and more than it cost them to do so.

      • almajir says:

Your first sentence completely contradicts the rest of your comment.

        • Waycoolblue says:

Well in order to increase the value the cub will need to be in the premiership and have premiership faculties so don’t know what you mine! But I understand you don’t like me so you will always look for some way to put me down That’s OK with me as I don’t like you much ever but I have no need to put you down as you do that your self without my help. You don’t now me but I am not a bad person.

PS you have the power to not allow this to post but me and you both know what I say is true. POST MY REPLY OR NOT . I don’t care.

          • almajir says:

If someone flips something, they sell it on immediately for a profit.

Investing means not selling it on immediately.

You were the one who flounced. You were the one who told me you’d never come back. You were the one who sent me insulting emails. And yet you beg me to allow you to comment?

  • Tony says:

If the new owners turn out to be ambitious then they will sack Gary Rowet, and appoint a much bigger name

    • Hillfield Blues says:

Your just trying to draw reaction all the time Tony.

      • Tony says:

Not at all Hillfield,if you had invested millions on a midtable championship team would you not go the final mile to secure the premiership? That would mean a top manager., as I have said before Rowett has done s great job but that’s it he cant do anymore.
His transfers in the main have been poor no one could give him 20 million with confidence.

        • Waycoolblue says:

GR as not really had any money to spend So he as not made Bad singing most of his permanent singings have been very good. Lone singings don’t really count as he as to take the best of what we can afforded. With a bigger budget he would not have singed them now would he. I am happy with what he as dune and don’t think anyone ells could have done a better job even Arsène Wenger could not have dune the job GR as dune.

  • williammorgan says:

A £ 50 million club to around £150 million club could be one hell of a temptation to any investor company ……

    • Hillfield Blues says:

Mmmm….WM.Ken Ashley couldn’t get 100 mill for Newcastle and the Vile have just been sold for 60 mill.Currently I reckon Blues are around 20 mill.

      • Mitchell says:

Yes,this is where the sums begin to get a bit complicated Hillfield. If TTA have put in £20m based on two seasons at ten each then to sell on and make a profit plus the 26% holding by CY that need to be purchased-then what total sum are we looking at? Astute accountants out there please come forward and throw some logical light.

  • Steve D says:

This might be a daft question, and maybe I’ve missed it somewhere but whatever happened with the misappropriation of funds thing? Was that ever sorted out because I’m sure it was mentioned to be one of the issues surrounding the stock market listing?

  • Dave Mann says:

Sorry to go off subject but waking up this morning and hearing the sad news about “The Greatest” and one of the most famous people of the 20th century Muhammad Ali’s death .., My father had the privelage of watching him fight live and meeting him as a fellow proffessional himself and was totally overwhelmed and honoured and gobsmacked to have that chance in life .. My fathers all time favourite sportsman and an icon of our lifetime RIP Cassius .

    • Mitchell says:

Nice condolence from you Dave and shared memories.

    • Bluey says:

Calling him Cassius is a strange way to honour the man.He hated it and called it a slave name so why use it?

      • Dave Mann says:

Because that’s his birth name given by his mother .. Bluey please don’t go down that road pal ok .

        • Dave Mann says:

And for the record is dad was called Cassius after a 19th century abolishnist who tried to abolish slavery and cruelty .. His original name defines a fight against slavery and cruelty though as you say ALI didn’t like the name because of its association with it .. I make no apologies for calling in Cassius though you obviously have to make that point !

  • williammorgan says:

More than a sportsman Dave , he gave people suppressed all over the world the strength to speak against injustice no matter what colour you was , No angel but hey a lorra lorra good , Hats off to ALI..

  • Tony says:

Hats of to Larry well known Del Shannon song.

  • Chris W says:

Daniel I read part of the latest statement released by the club about what’s happening in Hong Kong. I class myself as pretty intelligent but that stuff is 61 pages of legal wrangling I can’t get me head round. One of the lads posted it means that we now owned by TTA but is this true or are we still getting getting rid of Carson. Please email me on the address below. I haven’t been recieving your emails which I know I was subscribed too but i don’t seem to get them anymore. Would appreciate the clarity mate. KRO.
