Foxes come to St Andrews

Ye Gods and little children, football at St Andrews this weekend. It feels like an absolute age since our last game at home – well, three weeks is a long time I guess. And yet I have this massive feeling it’s going to be an anti-climax with so many fans looking forward to the trip to Bruges in midweek. However, Sven is coming to town and thus I present my Leicester preview.

Leicester City

Leicester City share quite a bit in common with Blues; they’re owned by a Far Eastern consortium, they play in Blue and they’ve won a trophy more recently than Aston Villa have. Unfortunately for us, there are also marked differences – they’ve got a fair bit of cash behind them and as such look a very good prospect for promotion, having made a raft of expensive acquisitions over the summer.

Leicester are on a good run of form; unbeaten in seven, four clean sheets in a row and a 4-0 tanking of Derby before the international break. They have several options returning from injury with on-loan midfielder Michael Johnson, vice-captain Ritchie Wellens and forward Jermaine Beckford all pushing for recalls to the first team. It’s a pleasant selection headache for the former England boss and I think the Foxes will provide Blues with a very stern test on Sunday.

Birmingham City

Chris Hughton has confirmed that whilst captain Stephen Carr is available again after injury, a knee problem is going to keep Curtis Davies out of this fixture. Otherwise it seems there are no new injury problems and as such Hughton is going to have to make decisions on who to play, and if he needs to hold anyone back for the trip to Belgium in midweek.

My personal opinion is that we’ll see Pablo partnering Caldwell at the back, with Ridgewell more than likely continuing in the left back berth. Up front I hope we go with a two – I’d maybe go for Wood and King but with the lanky Serb Zigic coming back to full match fitness now I think he has to be pushing for a place in the team. Midfield could be interesting; I think Beausejour and Burke will play wide and maybe Elliott will be rested to enable Blues to go 4-5-1 out in Bruges.

The game is live on BBC 1 on Sunday, and is a 1pm kick off. I hope Blues can make a strong showing, but my fear is that Leicester may well be too good for Blues, and thus I’m going to go with a 1-1 draw. If you can guess the attendance for this game, you may want to enter the OP competition to win a Savile Rogue scarf – the competition is still open until 23:59 on Saturday night – full details here.

Agree with your thoughts regarding this,,,,,whats your thoughts on the reported Chinese taker over at Forest,,,,,using same people as Yeung to set the deal up,,no names mentioned as to who is buying,,,,,only reputed to be paying £25 mill for them,,,,,,do you reckon our new Chinese investors have called Yeungs bluff and gone elsewhere ?

    • almajir says:

      That’s a good question.

I think until we know who is actually buying Forest it would be folly to comment fully; there are lots of rich people in China and I’m almost certain that these not only will have no connection to Blues or Carson but probably won’t even know of him that much.

just seems strange to me,,the supposed shortfall figure in Blues cash flow is the same [approx ] figure that is being quoted for the purchase of Forest,,,,I agree there are lots of rich people in China but again think it strange,,,,we are looking for new investors is the only word coming from HK,,,,and this take over comes out of the blue

Conspiracy theory RULES OK !!!! LOL

My mates a Leicester fan and he reckons they are playing well. He is not sure if they will play Vassell, Beckford and Nugent in the starting line up but hopes they do. That’s probably as good a forward line in the championship as it gets !!

Have faith..foxes doing well against average opposition..Blues to win 3-1

  • bluenose11 says:

dont forget if we win our games in hand were top six and that is with an average start so keep the faith personally i think we would have started better if we had had all our forwards fit something people may have forgotten 3-1 blues lets bring them back down to earth with a bump
