Limping to the Finishing Line; Brighton Preview
Tomorrow sees match number 59 and a chance for Blues to mathematically confirm their playoff place against a Brighton side whose recent unfortunate form has led them to blow their chances of the playoffs.
Brighton and Hove Albion
Brighton come into the game on the back of some wretched form, having not won at all or kept a clean sheet in the last six games, and seeing their chances of a top six finish fade into oblivion. Having lost 6-0 away to West Ham last weekend the Seagulls managed to get themselves back to a draw against Watford having been 2-0 down at half time.
Brighton have few injury concerns; Marcos Painter won’t be returning against the team where he started his professional career due to a hamstring injury and Tommy Elphick will continue to be on the sidelines also. However Irishman Gary Dicker, who played half a season on loan for Blues reserves back in 2007 will more than likely line up against the Blues in the Brighton midfield.
Blues
It would probably be quicker to list who is fit for Blues to be honest as Steven Caldwell was added to the injury list for the remainder of the season having limped off with a groin injury at Ipswich. His injury mean Blues have just four fit defenders; and with Jordon Mutch possibly back for this one Blues might have two fit central midfielders.
Should Mutch not make it and Hughton continue with sticking to senior pros only the team will pick itself as there will only be sixteen fit players; Doyle, Ramage, Ibanez, Davies, Murphy, Burke, Gomis, Elliott, Townsend, Zigic and King would be the likely starting eleven which would leave a bench of Butland, Redmond, Rooney, Huseklepp and Folan. Attacking yes – but absolutely no cover for the back line.
As such whilst the bookies are tipping Blues for the win I cannot see it; the pressure is off Blues as they know a point will as good as seal it due to their superior goal difference over 7th placed Middlesbrough; they lead Boro by five points and twenty-four goals prior to Saturday’s fixture so once again, I’m going with the draw.

The draw master strikes again! Good to see Chris Hughton is taking no risks at this stage of the season with a play off place almost assured making sure we will be at virtual full strength for the play offs is priority!
Now isn’t the time to experiment, get the point we need against Brighton to assure us of a play off place then we can play some of the fringe or youngsters at home against Reading.
Does anyone know how far off Carr and Spector are from recovery?
I think it will be a close one this week but ,I’m feeling we can just pip Brighton 2-1. I think they’re players are already mentally sitting with their feet up on the Brighton sea front. Blues will know they need to push on and just knick it!!.
KRO
What a fantastic season the Blues have had.
Quietly going about their business without the media giving the manager or the pick and mix team the plaudits they deserve.
Justice will prevail and Blues will enter the play offs via Southampton hammering middlesborough.
This will give us a couple more weeks to get the majority of our hard working team back together.
Whoever we play will fear us.
Chris has assembled a hard working team who fight for every point and score regularly, something of a breath of fresh air at the Blues.
Whatever the outcome of the play offs , what a surprisingly great season we have had.
KRO Blue Boys and good luck.
Brilliant response. #kro
Fully endorse Trevor’s sentiments
Maybe just maybe you might see birmingham try a different formation at the weekend and i wouldnt be surprised if you see the two young wingers in Townsend and redmond on opposite flanks with Burke rested. i think the team might be set up as follows
Doyle
Murphy Ibanez Ramage
Burke Gomez Elliott Mutch
Redmond Hussklepp Townsend
Sorry I meant King and Zigic rested rested
Never play for a draw.
Draw it was…
Yeah, but we tried to win it and… job done
Yeah, roll on the playoffs.
