Blues Academy in Holland
Birmingham City have been named as late replacements for Swansea City in the Stad en Landtoernooi van Be Quick u19 Tournament, to be held in Zutphen, the Netherlands.
Blues came third in last year’s tournament. They qualified from their group after winning 2-1 against PAOK Salonika, and drawing 0-0 with Be Quick Zutphen and 1-1 with Vitesse Arnhem. They then lost 2-0 to eventual winners Vitória Bahia in the semi finals but managed to beat Heerenveen in the 3/4 place match 1-0.
This year’s line up includes Shaktar Donetsk of the Ukraine, KV Mechelen of Belgium and Atlas Guadalajara of Mexico along with Dutch teams Vitesse Arnhem, Heerenveen, de Grafschaap and Be Quick Zutphens.
This will be Blues third time in all in the tournament. The tournament website says that Development Squad Coach Richard Beale is very fond of the the tournament organisation and reception.
The tournament runs from 3 August to 5 August and is for u19 players.
