The Carson Trial – Day 3
Day three of Carson’s trial into money laundering was marked by the dismissal of an attempt by the defence to get the testimony of the main prosecution witness made inadmissible.
According to the South China Morning Post, the defence counsel Graham Harris SC said that the report prepared for the prosecution by Roderick Sutton was irrelevant and unnecessary, and that its prejudicial effect outweighs it’s probative value.
Harris is then quoted as saying that the offence required evidence that there were “reasonable grounds to believe” money laundering did occur, but Sutton was an expert and was not a member of a common-sense rational community.
John Reading SC, for the prosecution said that his side’s expert report was only meant to assist the judge by arranging the transaction in a presentable format and it was up to the judge if Yeung was guilty or not.
Judge Douglas Yau rejected the application by the defence, saying that he would remind himself not to consider the conclusion of the Sutton report and would reach the verdict by his own judgement.
The case was adjourned until Thursday May 9 to allow the prosecution some time to study the voluminous defence report which had only been received on Monday.

It seems that in HK you only attend court one day a week instead of 5. Is this a drip-feed trial? haha. But in all seriousness, why wasn’t he in Court yesterday?
In all seriousness, Gary, did you read the Day 2 report?
its better than Eastenders following the Blues.
#drama
Yau don’t know what yer doing!
Dan-are sure his trial only 28 days????, dallas more like eddie
As I’ve always stated, it’s 25 working days, not 25 consecutive days…
At the current rate of 2 actual days of trial per week, this will drag on for 13 weeks (25/2) or at least until the start of August. Add in holidays and time for the verdict, nothing is gonna happen until the autumn. Mind you, it’s going to keep Al’s blog ticking over during the summer.
sorry Dan my fault…thanks for for your correction…..
Is OP planning to open a thread on PP’s news release from yesterday? http://www.bcfc.com/news/article/a-statement-from-peter-pannu-806262.aspx
Lots of ‘legal action’ mentioned and accusations against the media & ex-directors from PP.
“Open a thread”? – you do know this isn’t a forum, don’t you???
I’m still taking legal advice on it.
OK then a blog, forum or whatever you want to call it, no need to be so tetchy!
It’s not about me being tetchy, it’s about people understanding what this site is. It’s a blog, not a forum…
Dan- cannot wait if you ever one on one PP you will be nice to him lol
Al, as someone who has never annoyed you and knows its a blog and not a forum can I ask you to get the ST prices and the dates of the two Irish friendlies for me. I know it’s not HK but it’s relevant right now. Just cos some fans have got you down as our version of PP with yer trip to HK I still think you’re a nice bloke even if Blueboy don’t.
Mate, the club will announce things when it’s good and ready, I can’t force them.
I’m not even sure it is Ireland although I’ve heard from a few sources it will be.
What are you taking legal advice about Dan,,,,,,whether this site of yours is a “Blog” or a “Forum”,,,,,,opinions vary but only one counts !!,,,,,,or is the legal advice concerned with “Poison Pete,s” protestations of innocence and wrong doing to all those foolish enough to believe him
About Mr Pannu.
I’m pretty much decided though I won’t be responding.
He’s going to keep protesting every detail brought against him and drag this whole thing out as long as possible, isn’t he…
I would guess the determination from Carson’s legal team to discredit every move the prosecution makes would suggest his defence isn’t all that watertight in its own right. But maybe that’s why I know the square root of nowt about law.
I am now wondering,,,,,with all these attempts to get the trial thrown out,,,,,now evidence,,,,,,are his “barristers” really on Carsons side,,,,,or are they hoping to wind the judge up so he dish,s out a consecutive jail term ,,,,,5 years on the first charge,,,,do that and theres another 5 waiting on the next charge straight away ?
Dan, following your ‘appointment’ as part of the delegation to HK, I would suggest you are starting to believe your own hype given the somewhat abrupt and rude replies you are making recently. Ive followed this blog with great interest for sometime now and always found it both informative and knowledgable but think you may need to remember that you are still just one of us………an avid if not disheartened supporter of BCFC
Thanks for your comment.
I’ve only ever seen myself as just another fan, Blueboy. However, I will admit the frustration when people ask questions which have been quite clearly covered just a matter of days ago and I DEFINITELY will admit that it annoys me when people think of OP as a forum – it’s not and never has been.
you need a break mate, it was only a slip of the toung, it dont matter that much dose it? but its not just that comment tbh you seem a bit on edge like the comment when you refer the other guy to day two of the trial. think you need to chill a bit. My points are ment to be constructive as this Blog site has been really good and we have all told you that many many times.
Almajir, pay no attention to the moaners and complainers. Most people know the difference between a blog and a forum and even more people appreciate the hard work you are putting in to this site. Don’t let the buggers get you down.
Totally understand your frustration and just goes to prove that a lot of Blues fans have short memories – which is probably what keeps us going to Stans and giving our continued support ! Thanks for all your efforts and keep up the good work of keeping us informed – just remember every now and then that we are all human sharing in a common goal.
Thanks for the update Dan.
I think people need to realize this will be a long drawn out somewhat boring court case, after all its not a juicy murder case.
I think some people also need to realize you don’t have to produce this BLOG or provide us with all the great info that you do, and should appreciate your efforts a little more or go start there own BLOG
Al – just a thought about this blog/forum confusion. Why not add a strapline below the OP logo so new readers get the message.
Something like “One fan’s blog about all things Birmingham City”. That’s not particularly lucid but you get the idea.
Just a thought.
May I ask & if it has already been answered, plz accept my apologies.
If c`y gets sent down, what happens to his shares ??
Do they go up to auction or do the H`Kong authorities receive them,if H`Kong retain his shares are they saying BLUES was bought with the money he has been found guilty of laundering .
Thx’s.
Publish and be dammed
Might be more of a case of publish and be SUED, Tony…
Dan: I can understand your caution!
For info:
Blog – a Web site containing the writer’s or group of writers’ own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other Web sites.
Forum – an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest.
Here endeth the lesson…
Am writing from cape town where i have lived for the past 30 yrs. I have been a blues supporter since I was six. I don’t get much news about blues here so blogs like OP is much appreciated, especially as it is a well thought out and presented work. Keep up the great work Al we need people like you.
This saga is gonna have many twists and turns before it reaches its conclusion.
Even if CY is convicted, maybe he will not get the maximum sentence possible, as it looks as if his defence team are on the ball and will fight it out at every stage. If he does get off, he may feel that there is plenty to make up for buit first he has to go toe to toe on Friday for BIHL’s AGM…
This really is hotting up but the downside is that BCFC is the one with alot to lose depending on the outcomes.
Listen Everyone!!!
If Often Partizan, almajir, El Mayor or whatever he wants to call himself helps to expose just what these jokers are, and what they have been up to, and saves our club and us fans any more pain, AND if the Triads don’t get him first, then there is only one person who is going to win the Blues Fan of the season trophy in 2013/2014 and that is:-
DANIEL IVERY
I thank you !!!
I’m not sure I’d go that far mate – I’m just doing what any fan would do.
almajir,
If that pillock (aka PP) wishes to try and take-on OP, come and let him try. He has had ample opportunity to make clear what has gone on, is going on and what is likely to happen. The choice to treat us all contemptiously has been purely his.
What he has more than likely not taken into account, is the fact others also have recourse to legal counsel and if anyone has anything to hide….well, they would be talking about doing this that and the other wouldn’t they??
The closer to nefarious activities investigations get to, the more those responsible get desperate.
Let us see first of all whether CY and PP ‘survive’ the royal rumble of Friday first.
Keep up the jolly good work – we are all with you.
I visit this blog nearly every day as its the only place you can get real information about b.c.f.c. as i dont get to many games due to work sorry p.v.o.r. ! and i appreciate the ammount of work that goes in to getting the information for us bluenoses and keeping us up to date with events in hong kong keep up the good work k.r.o.
