No FFP Transfer Embargo for Blues

The Football League have confirmed today that following an initial analysis three clubs have failed to meet the Financial Fair Play requirements and face a transfer embargo in the next window. The three clubs – Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers – face severe restrictions on bringing in new players until their accounts are in line.

Complications

It seems somewhat disturbing to me that the biggest and most read news story this week has been about a fan paying £300 for a Lego replica of St Andrews. Although the early part of the close season is the quietest time in football with players gone off on their hols there is a lot that should be going on that doesn’t seem to be happening and the sense of not only frustration at the lack of news but scepticism that there will be is palpable.

Birmingham City go into Saturday’s game against Bolton with the very real prospect of dropping to the third tier for the first time since the 1994/95 season. Relegation from the Premier League cost Blues dearly and with the increasing probability of relegation to League One happening the question is how much it will affect Blues this time.

Financial Fair Play and Blues

The Football League yesterday announced that they were going to implement Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations to the Championship as they look to make the division a fairer playing field and to clamp down on irresponsible ownership of football clubs.
