Talking Points sponsored by John Hicken Industrial roofing and cladding materials

As the season draws it near one thing that seems to have been prevalent over Blues pre-season campaign has been Gary Rowett’s stubborn insistence on playing any other right-back than Paul Caddis. The Scottish defender has racked up 149 league appearances for Blues but there is no guarantee his 150th will come on Saturday against Cardiff.

Shotton to St Andrew’s?

There’s nothing like the promise of some money to spend to get the transfer rumours ignited. One rumour that has come from credible sources is that Blues are looking to bring back Ryan Shotton on a permanent deal from Derby after his loan spell with the club in the second half of last season.

The case for the defence

This week Gary Rowett and Blues will have to confirm which of their players whose contracts expire this summer will be offered a new deal to stay at St Andrew’s beyond June 2016. Unlike the past few years, the number of players who could leave is a lot lower and subsequently, it’s probable that only one – Paul Robinson – will be offered a new deal.
