Soccer Management Worldwide are reported to still be keen on a deal to buy Birmingham City despite the departure of Jeremy Wray from the board of the company. The Birmingham Mail have reported that Wray has stepped down from the board for “personal reasons” but remains very much a part of the group.

Jeremy Wray Quits

Documents have been filed with Companies House showing that Jeremy Wray has resigned his directorship of Soccer Management Worldwide. SMW was the company that announced to the Birmingham Mail that it had made a bid for Birmingham City in May.

“Unbelievably Complicated”

It’s now one week since the self-imposed deadline of three weeks due diligence has elapsed, and Birmingham City seem no closer to having new investment. Although there can be announcements on the HKSE until 11pm HKT (4pm BST), it does seem unlikely that there will be any major announcement today as there has been no halt called on trading of shares.

Guarded Optimism

Peter Day of the Soccer Management Worldwide consortium told the Birmingham Mail last night that they were “ready to do the deal” to buy a stake in the club. However, there is a strong indication from Hong Kong that there may be added complications to the deal due to the HKSE apparently making preliminary enquiries about various aspects of BIH’s corporate governance.

Sky Sports News has pubished a story this morning that former Derby County Chairman and current Hull FC owner Adam Pearson has entered the race to buy Birmingham City. Pearson is reported to be in a consortium along with Mike Farnan, who was previously involved in trying to buy Leeds prior to Massimo Cellino’s successful bid.

Two Weeks In

Today marks two weeks since (according to Jeremy Wray at least) SMW were told that they were the preferred bidder for purchasing a stake in Birmingham City FC. As yet there has been no announcement as to what is going to happen and life at St Andrew’s has continued as normal with the club being linked with former striker Wes Thomas.

Since news broke of Birmingham International Holdings receiving an “indicative, non-binding offer” for 24% of Birmingham City PLC there has been a lot of talk about how long the whole sale process will take.
