Scrapping Against The Terriers: Huddersfield Match Reflections

Birmingham City extended their unbeaten run to a fourth game but it was no classic at St Andrew’s yesterday. A Joe Lolley effort from close range cancelled out David Cotterill’s opener and for much of the game bad passing and poor ball retention cancelled out good play from both sides.

Taking Down The Tricky Trees

Birmingham City bounced back from their 4-0 Boxing Day defeat to Derby with a televised 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest which puts the Blues level on points with the Tricky Trees in the Championship table. David Cotterill opened the scoring with a free kick that avoided the touch of everyone before going in before Clayton Donaldson added a brace to give the Blues a comfortable margin of victory.

The Rowett Revolution carries on apace with Blues picking up another three points at the weekend courtesy of a well fought 1-0 win over Huddersfield. David Cotterill scored the winner with a free kick that left Huddersfield keeper Alex Smithies grasping at thin air to propel Blues up to fifteenth in the table, equidistant between the playoffs and relegation.

Brighton Match Reflections

Birmingham City recorded their first home win in the league for a mindblowing 319 days, denying Cambridge United the chance to lose their share in the unwanted record for most consecutive home league games without a win. A Wes Thomas header early in the second half was enough to see off a Brighton side that struggled to cope with Blues’ pressing and tempo.

Cotterill In

Doncaster Rovers winger David Cotterill yesterday became the eighth summer signing for Birmingham City. The 26-year-old Welsh international joined Birmingham City on a Bosman free transfer, signing a two-year deal.
