Thorpe Returns

Birmingham City swooped to sign Tom Thorpe again on loan from Manchester United before the loan deadline passed yesterday. Thorpe originally signed for Blues on loan back at the end of January but injury curtailed his debut after just fourteen minutes.

David Murphy Retires

Birmingham City have confirmed today that David Murphy has retired from professional football at the age of 30. The Hartlepool-born left back had been out for a long period with a knee injury and had been advised by the surgeon dealing with the injury he could no longer play.

Birmingham City fielded what is thought to be their youngest ever starting XI on Saturday with an average age of just 21.8 – which was only brought up to that level by the presence of 34-year-old Peter Lovenkrands and 31-year-old Brian Howard.
