Football League Considering Drastic Measures Over Parachute Payments
Championship clubs met yesterday to discuss radical proposals in light of improved parachute payments to relegated Premier League clubs next year. Thanks to a windfall of £5.5bn in TV rights relegated clubs will be given a payment of £59mil over a four year period, a 22% increase on the current deal. The new deal will supposedly see clubs receiving £23mil in the first season, £18mil in the second and then £9mil in the two years after it, whilst the “solidarity payment” paid to other clubs in the Championship would increase by just 5%.

I Want My BSkyB
When I was a young lad Mark Knopfler sang about the obscene amounts of money that rockstars earnt in comparison to the blue collar workers. These days, it could well be sung about footballers as we see the latest contracts on offer that dwarf what the ordinary amongst us could ever hope to earn in a lifetime.

TV Rights and Wrongs
Money. It’s something that we all wish we had more of, and yet it’s something we all see as corrupting – be it politicians, bankers or football. I read this article interviewing the Liverpool chief exec, where he talks about the break up of international Premier League rights, and I thought it was a good subject to talk about – particularly bearing in mind Blues’ being an internationally owned company.

Interview with Janine Self
Those of you who use twitter may well know Janine Self – the “Queen of Midlands Football” is a well-respected sports writer covering the midlands patch for The People, as well as the ghost writer behind Robbie Savage’s autobiography. I caught up with her this week to ask her her thoughts on the bias against midlands teams in the national press, her view on the enigma that is Robbie Savage and her favourite grounds to visit as a reporter.

Dispatched: Is Foreign Ownership really to blame?
Like many other football fans, I watched Dispatches on Channel Four last night. I was intrigued as to what they would say about the world of Football finances and whatnot. Of course, with all the hullabaloo surrounding Carson and Blues recently I was intrigued to see what mention we would get on the programme.

Trap Door
How many points will guarantee Premiership safety this year? According to most pundits, 41, 42 or maybe 43 points will see Premiership clubs stay above the relegation trap door – higher than the oft-vaunted 40 points total most teams look at the start of the season. However, I believe this is wrong – I’ve said in the past 36 points would do it, and I’m still confident no more than 38 will be needed.

New Quota Rules (pt II)
Last Friday, I posted the first part of a blog post about the new squad quota rules being brought in by the Premier League. I’ve spent the best part of this week collating data on the squads each Premier League club to see where how well they can comply to these rules; and to see […]

New Quota Rules (pt 1)
As the new premier league season approaches, it’s time to look at the way the rules have changed with the introduction of the quota. The Quota rules state that each club in the Premier League can only have up to 25 players over the age of 21 in their squad, of which eight of these […]
