Injuries and Cover

Talking Points sponsored by John Hicken Industrial roofing and cladding materials

With Stephen Caldwell hobbling off the pitch last night suffering with a groin injury, Blues are stripped even further to the bone injury-wise. If we take the worst-case scenario that none of the currently injured players are fit to return against Brighton at the weekend Blues are back down to four senior defenders; one true first-team central midfielder and a bunch of wingers and strikers. Who do Blues bring in?

Youth versus Experience

Talking Points sponsored by John Hicken Industrial roofing and cladding materials

Once again it appears Blues are down to the bare bones of their squad again with injuries to central midfielders Guirane N’Daw, Keith Fahey and Jordon Mutch leaving Chris Hughton with the age-old selection headache of going with out-of-position experienced players or chancing it with a rookie. It’s something that gets talked a lot about on forums and I thought I’d jot down my thoughts on it.

Ipswich Preview

Match previews sponsored by EZE Group - Lifestyle Experts

Today sees Blues make the trip to Portman Road for their 58th fixture of the current campaign against Paul Jewell’s Ipswich Town. Blues need a win to further cement their place in the playoff spots whilst Ipswich are pretty much playing for pride, with neither promotion nor relegation within their reach.

Where Are They Now? Part XII

I was thinking about the loan players we have had at Blues over the years; the ones who have been abject failures and the ones who have been successes. The focus for today’s article was one I’d deem a success; I was gutted that we weren’t able to sign him permanently and I often think his career never quite peaked as much as his talent suggested it should. The player I’m talking about is former Scotland international Mark Burchill.

Taking on Townsend

I read with interest Colin Tattum’s piece in the Birmingham Mail yesterday about Andros Townsend, and the possibility he might choose to stay with Blues on a permanent basis after his loan spell at St Andrews expires. It’s not something I’d thought about previously but on reflection it is a question that has merit – should Blues make an effort to sign the young winger?
