Often Partisan Player Of The Year – Chris Burke

Nearly 800 people voted in the inaugural OP player of the season poll last month, and the winner by some distance was winger Chris Burke.

Where Are They Now? Part XIII

When people look back at the playoff victory in 2002 and talk about the heroes, people think about Stern John for scoring the equalising goal; Darren Carter for scoring the winning pen in the shootout. Sometimes this player is missed out – which is a shame, because in many ways he was a hero too. Like Colin Doyle, he came into the team after an injury to the regular keeper and, like Doyle hopefully did, he did us proud. I’m of course talking about Nico Vaesen.

Trophy on the Pitch?

Would you want to see Reading presented with the Championship trophy at St Andrews this weekend? It’s a question that’s doing the rounds of the forums at the moment and it’s one I’ve been thinking about myself.

Twenty Four Goals: The Playoff Picture

It might have been a fourth draw in succession for Blues, but the 1-1 draw against Brighton all but mathematically assures Blues a place in the playoffs in May. For a team that was in fifteenth place in November and that will be playing it’s 60th game of a marathon season next weekend, it’s an achievement.

Silver Linings

As the league season reaches its penultimate week, I’ve been thinking back about things that have happened and how I’ve felt about this season. It’s almost passé now to talk about the “trials and tribulations” that Blues have suffered in the summer of 2011 these days because its been gone over so often. A lot of the good that has happened this season has been seen to happen despite the stuff that Blues suffered last year. I want to offer the contentious opinion that relegation, the McLeish saga and the Yeung arrest were all blessings in disguise for Blues.

Zigic and Penalties

There have been a few times this season that we as Blues fans have complained about the lack of penalties awarded for fouls on Nikola Zigic; it appears that the Serb has been guilty of being too tall in the eyes of some refs and some defenders have been virtually allowed open season on him. I picked up on this article from Spain which proves it’s pretty much always been this way for him.

Kick It As Far As You Can And Don’t Pass It To Anybody Nearby

I picked up on this piece out of Russia this morning and I thought I’d link it here as news is a bit scarce over the last day or two and it might be of interest to Blues fans.
