Colin Doyle
Fifty Up For Doyle
If as expected Colin Doyle lines up between the sticks for the second leg of the playoff on Wednesday night, then the Irishman will be making his fiftieth appearance in the royal blue of Birmingham. For the keeper who has been with the club for ten years it’s a long-awaited landmark appearance and possibly one he thought he might not reach.

In truth, he deserved it – his excellent save from Juan Mata’s penalty galvanised Blues into pushing Chelsea a little harder for a goal. It also led me to wonder just how many penalties Doyle has saved for Blues.

Today sees Birmingham City take on the mighty Pensioners of Chelsea for the right to be in the draw for the quarter finals of the FA Cup. It’s a tough draw for Blues but last year proved that sometimes you can’t count on your reputation to win the game.
