Learning Lessons From Failure of Others

As the close season approaches and Blues’ league campaign peters out I think it’s almost inevitable that our eyes once again turn eastwards to Hong Kong to see what happens next; how the club’s potential new owners Trillion Trophy Asia will invest and what sort of budget there will be next season.

The Future

Birmingham City blew a two goal lead to draw with Preston North End at St Andrew’s last night. A brace from Clayton Donaldson had put Gary Rowett’s men into a good position but late goals from Alan Brown and Greg Cunningham ensured Simon Grayson’s team returned north with a share of the spoils.

Hoping for Better Things

Birmingham City continued their patchy form of late, going down to an injury-time goal from Jorge Teixeira in a 2-1 defeat to Charlton. Jon Toral had opened the scoring for Blues in the first half but they were pegged back by a Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson equaliser within six minutes.

The Promotion Push

The international break is over, and on Saturday begins a sequence of eight games in 27 days that could be the difference between being playoff contenders and also-rans. Can we still dare to dream?

Time to go direct

Blues face Wolves on Sunday in what really is a crunch match for their playoff hopes. Defeat on Tuesday didn’t help matters but almost every single other team around them dropped points and as such Blues didn’t lose any ground on 6th place.

Empty Saturday

Due to Leeds playing in the fifth round of the FA Cup, Blues have a fixture-less Saturday along with fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesborough. Monday Morning Introspection

Birmingham City drew 0-0 with Rotherham this weekend with Neil Warnock’s new charges finishing with just nine men. However, following defeats for Derby County and Ipswich Town Blues very much remain in the playoff hunt in seventh place, three points behind Sheffield Wednesday.

Two Meals Away From Barbarism

It’s difficult at this moment in time not to look across the expressway at our stricken brethren and smirk. After a few years of laughing at our problems while circling the Premier League drain themselves, our city rivals have suddenly become the league’s whipping boys and with fourteen games to go are all but down.

The Importance of u21 Signings

While it’s been exciting of late to look at potential new signings that Blues may be able to bring in, one thing that has crossed my mind is how hard it must be for Gary Rowett to balance immediate need for players with the prospect of blocking the pathways of Academy and Development Squad graduates to the first team.
