McLeish to Villa? No way

Whilst the summer hasn’t been a bundle of laughs for us Bluenoses, it’s not been kind to our brethren from across the expressway either. Having decided to get rid of their manager, they’re gradually working their way down a shortlist of managers who are knocking them back faster than a Scotsman on New Year’s Eve. It had to happen; aat the current time of writing, Ladbrokes have McLeish at 2-1 to be the next Villa manager. Has the world gone mad?

Managerial Musical Chairs

It appears that Houllier’s departure from Villa yesterday has finally started off the end of season game of managerial musical chairs, and as McLeish is seen by many within the club as under threat of losing his job, I thought this was worth a discussion.

Up and down

One thing with relegation is it’s not something that’s new for Birmingham City. Indeed, we’ve been up and down so often we should be called the Vengaboys. Bouncing back from relegation is something we’ve become good at, and as Mr_Kwacky pointed out on twitter, it might be something worth looking at.

New Beginnings: A Squad Update

It’s nearly a week since we finally got relegated at White Hart Lane, but there has already been quite a few changes at St Andrews player-wise. I thought it would be a good idea to take a look now at who has gone and who has stayed, and the gaps this has left in the team.

It’s The End Of The World As We Know It

Of course, yesterday wasn’t the end of the world at all – it felt bad, but Blues have been relegated before. No doubt they will be again either. And like Mr Stipe sang, I’m fine with it. After about ten minutes of feeling very mopey, I came to the very quick realisation that relegation isn’t going to kill Birmingham City.

D-Day

So the day is upon us. Today is the day we’ll find out if we’re going to be plucky survivors, or relegated victims. As I alluded to a couple of days ago, it’s been difficult knowing what to write – I want to be positive and put forth my belief in the team but I don’t want the accompanying kick in the cojones if and when we go down.

Taking our Chances.

Survival Sunday. It’s a dramatic finale to the Premiership, and for once Sky are probably not too far off with the hyperbole involved in the final day. Four matches can affect the outcome of who goes down, and sadly, Birmingham City are right in the mixer.

Village Turnout

Last night saw the “Big City Event”, aka the End-of-the-season awards for Birmingham City held at the NIA in town. I’ve seen a lot of cynicism online about how the event would pan out; indeed, I myself wondered just how many others would pay for the privilege of watching a bunch of posh nobs quaff champagne whilst the awards were announced – particularly after Sunday’s performance against Fulham.

Gutless

I’m not going to write a match report for the Fulham game. There are so many synonyms for gutless, and having left myself with fifteen minutes to go feeling physically sick at just how bad we’d played, I couldn’t do it justice. Suffice it to say, that was the kind of performance that not only gets you relegated, but deserves relegation.

At the beach

Peter Crouch’s own goal last night might have just sealed Manchester City’s Champions League place, but for us Blues fans it could be one of the keys to saving us from relegation, as well as possibly enabling us to enter the Europa League at a later round than we previously thought.
