Ben Foster

Moving On Up

It was confirmed yesterday by Blues and the player himself that Ben Foster has completed his drawn-out permanent transfer to West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee. It’s the end to a switch which has been rumbling on since about April and has outlasted managers at both clubs.

The Ben Foster Deal

Dan Ashworth confirmed yesterday that West Bromwich Albion were in talks with Blues for the services of goalkeeper Ben Foster. The BBC reports Dan Ashworth as saying that the price “had to be right for us [WBA] – and Blues” – which set me off thinking what is the right price for the Leamington-born stopper.

That Was The Season That Was – Part I

This week I’m devoting to looking back at last season – the highs and lows, the good and the bad. Part I starts with June, July and August.

The Transfer of Ben Foster

Talking Points sponsored by John Hicken Industrial roofing and cladding materials

Roy Hodgson has told Blues that he wants them to make a quick decision on the availability of Ben Foster for permanent transfer. Whilst the Baggies took the keeper on loan for the duration of this season, nothing was set up with regards to a permanent deal, and it’s been said all season that Blues had to be a division below the Baggies for them to consider selling Foster.

Gossip Folks Week Four

It’s the halfway point in the transfer window now, and I thought it was time to take another look at the transfer window spreadsheet I’ve been building.

Benjamin and Glyn; a tale of two goalkeepers.

It took a week or so, but it finally happened – Ben Foster left Birmingham City on a loan deal to our neighbours in Smethwick, and in return we’ve got Welsh-American keeper Glyn Oliver “Boaz” Myhill, a saving in wages and maybe a loan fee. It’s not a transfer that excites; in many fans cases it’s wound them up. What’s curious is that there is no purchase clause in Foster’s loan deal, contrary to some previous reports.

With all the background stuff going on at Blues, I’ve not talked about the playing side much, so I thought today I’d take a look at the transfer rumours out there and discuss them further.

Squad Analysis

Talking Points sponsored by John Hicken Industrial roofing and cladding materials

With Blues scheduled to play friendlies against Cork City and Worcester City this weekend, I thought it might be worth having a look at the squad as it stands just to see exactly how thin it is and where I think we will have to strengthen if we’re to have a hope of doing well this season.

Paper Talk

If the media were to be believed, the vultures are already circling to pick the bones of a relegated Birmingham City team clean of what’s desirable, and as such many Blues fans are wondering who will be leaving us and how much for. I decided it was worth a trawl through the rumours, and to try and piece together something resembling the truth.

Gutless

I’m not going to write a match report for the Fulham game. There are so many synonyms for gutless, and having left myself with fifteen minutes to go feeling physically sick at just how bad we’d played, I couldn’t do it justice. Suffice it to say, that was the kind of performance that not only gets you relegated, but deserves relegation.
