Happy Birthday Peter Pannu
Despite all the negative crapola that seems to continue to emanate from the Far East, the Blue machine steamrollers on – this time burying Bury 5-1 in a pre-season that sounded from the radio at least to be embarrassingly one-sided – and I think it’s partly down to the efforts of the subject of today’s article – birthday boy Peter Pannu, who is 49 today.

The More, The Merrier
One would have to be living under a rock for the last few months to not know about the Olympics currently taking place in London, such as the wall-to-wall coverage within the media. One thing I picked up on today was about the problem of empty seats at some of the venues, and whilst I was listening to the chap from LOCOG talking about solving the problem it led me to thinking about St Andrews and the problems Blues have with filling it.

EPPP and Blues
In just four days the new Elite Player Performance Plan for the development of young players comes into force. With the EPPP comes a four tiered grading system to replace the old two tier system of Academies and Centres of Excellence, with the aim to improve homegrown players which will hopefully have the knock-on effect of improving the national set-up.

Once The Ball Comes Out
Blues are only a couple of days into their pre-season camp out in Austria but the mood judging by the videos posted on bcfc.com seems good and morale is high. There seems to be a consistent line from the players that the good things from last year like the obvious bonding between the players and the attacking mentality are very much still in evidence and the new boys seem to have gelled into the squad well. I will admit, I’m getting very excited for the new season.

Squad Analysis 2012 pt II
Eighteen days ago I posted this article looking at where Blues stood with their squad in an attempt to try to work out where they need to strengthen first. With the recent flurry of activity in the transfer market and the squad for the Austria trip being announced, I thought it might be worthwhile looking again to see what has changed.

Ambrose: The Next Piece In The Blues Jigsaw
Blues wrapped up their fourth signing in five days with the capture of midfielder Darren Ambrose from Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee. The 28-year-old was entering the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and has moved to Blues on a two year deal with a further year’s option.

Three is the Magic Number
David Lucas became the second player to sign for Blues this summer after penning a one year deal with Birmingham City following his release from Rochdale. The thirty-four year old keeper was a player/coach at Rochdale but will only be fulfilling playing duties whilst at St Andrews providing backup for Colin Doyle and Jack Butland.

Harper and Butland
With Mark Crossley now out of the running for the vacant goalkeeper coach role at Blues, the Daily Mail has touted Steve Harper of Newcastle United for the job. The 37-year-old stopper has been with the Toon for nineteen years but it’s claimed he may well move on as he looks to get into coaching.

Silly Season Begins
It’s only been three days since the transfer embargo was lifted but the silly season has already truly started. The sad thing is that I’m not particularly referring to the media but more the expectations of some sections of the fans – I think some people may be in for a very disappointing summer when all is said and done on the transfer front.

Shirt Sponsors and Commercial Progress
Ian Dutton tweeted yesterday that Blues will confirm their new shirt sponsor on Monday 09 July in succession to the RationalFX deal that expired at the end of last season. Should we be excited about there being a new name on the front of the kit at St Andrews or is this a standard announcement that has been overly hyped?
