Darren Carter
Carter and Hancox

Wednesday was a day of contrasts at Birmingham City. On trial midfielder Darren Carter was told by Blues manager Lee Clark that he would not be offered a contract at St Andrews whilst young rookie left-back Mitch Hancox was given the squad number 27 for the season ahead.

A Tale of Eight Trialists – AFC Telford v Blues Development Squad

Blues took a young development team to the New Bucks Head to face Andy Sinton’s AFC Telford. Blues included six triallists – Darren Carter and Lee Naylor along with youngsters David Viana, Jeremy Balmy, Wilson Carvalho and Jules Diouf in their side as Richard Beale returned to one of his old stomping grounds.

Get Carter
Darren Carter came on for a 28 minute cameo in last night’s friendly against Shrewsbury Town as he continues to press his claim for a contract with Blues. He’s not made a first team appearance in a year and endured a long and unsuccessful trial spell last year at Blues. Do Blues get Carter in, or is it time to say so long and thanks for the memories?

Sunny Delight: Blues Win in Shrewsbury

Blues ran out 2-1 winners in a tough fought friendly at the Greenhous Meadow in Shrewsbury. Goals from Mitchell Hancox and Nikola Zigic sealed a win for a Blues side that saw trialist Darren Carter come on to rapturous applause in the second half.

Ambrose: The Next Piece In The Blues Jigsaw

Blues wrapped up their fourth signing in five days with the capture of midfielder Darren Ambrose from Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee. The 28-year-old was entering the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and has moved to Blues on a two year deal with a further year’s option.

Gossip Folks – Summer Edition – Week One
It’s actually been a fairly quiet start to the summer edition of the rumour mill experiment, with only three stories I have picked up from the nationals about transfers out of Blues players – not quite a fire sale yet.

Where Are They Now? The Trialist Edition
With it being international week I thought I’d do another edition of “Where Are They Now?” However, instead of looking at past players I thought I’d take a look at some of the trialists who have passed through the St Andrews doors this summer to see where they’ve ended up.

Introducing the “new Patrick Vieira”, Guirane N’Daw
When Andy Walker announced that there was to be a new signing yesterday on twitter, I have to admit I expected it to be either an extension to Chris Wood’s loan, or maybe a return of the prodigal Darren Carter to St Andrews. Suffice it to say, when it was announced that Blues had made the loan signing of Guirane N’Daw from St Etienne until January, I was a bit surprised. Partly because I’d heard nothing rumour wise about it, and partly because I’ve never heard of our new Senegalese midfielder.

Stasis
I have to admit, I cursed my timing in taking a week away. I was going to miss for sure the first match of the season and (as happened) the second too. I wouldn’t be able to follow what happened when Carson had his day in court, and no doubt we’d have sold some players and maybe brought one in. As it turned out, I didn’t really miss much at all – and whilst it’s a bit relieving to have a pause in the current maelstrom of events at Blues I can’t help that at the moment we’re trapped in stasis.

Similarities

In just over 96 hours, Birmingham City will grace the pitch at Wembley in a major final for the first time in 55 years, and the first time in a major final for ten years. I know that there is a lot of previews kicking around, so I thought I’d do something different. Let’s look […]
