Craig Gardner
Gossip Folks Week Five
With three quarters of the transfer window gone, it’s time once again to look at how the transfer rumours have been progressing.

In Hughton I Trust
It’s been a busy week down St Andrews, and for once it’s been because of the football – two home games, four goals and a fair few chances made has equated to some good times watching the beautiful game. I’ve said a few times before on this blog, but I’m so much more enthused by this season. I don’t think I’m alone either.

Everything must go?
And so it begins. Reports that Craig Gardner has all but sealed his move to the Stadium of Light; reports of a Stoke joint bid for Scott Dann and Cameron Jerome. It’s set off some discussions on the forums, and I thought I’d write a quick post about the way I see it.

Badge Kissing and Loyalty – Craig Gardner
He was the kid who came in from our hated rivals to declare he’d always been a bluenose. Pictures of him at John Frain’s testimonial circulated, and he became a regular fixture in the Birmingham central midfield, top scoring for Blues last season. However, apparently playing for his boyhood heroes isn’t enough for Craig Gardner; the word is he wants to stay in the Premiership.

Staying up fighting
My reflections on the match against Newcastle United today at St James’s Park.

Hispanic Lefties
Whilst tomorrow’s match isn’t a “must-win” by any means, it would be nice if Blues could get at least a point and finally put an end to any lingering worries of relegation. Provided we don’t get hammered (again), defeat wouldn’t be that much of a catastrophe – but it would be nice if Blues could improve on an away record which has seen them pick up just two away wins in seventeen games.

And Torres Still Hasn’t Scored
Here are my reflections on the Chelsea v Birmingham City game from last night. Please note that I watched this game on a dodgy internet feed rather than at the ground.

Unlucky for the Black Cats?
Blues can take another massive step to survival with a win against the Black Cats of Sunderland tomorrow, whilst pushing former manager Steve Bruce’s charges into a relegation dogfight. Whilst the game doesn’t have the same “must win” feeling of the last home match against Bolton, there is the sense that defeat would properly drop us back into trouble

Shooting Boots
A constant criticism of Birmingham City this season has been the perceived lack of attacking from the team. Many posters on messageboards have had a go at McLeish for being too defensive, and for not “giving it a go” enough. From the Guardian’s excellent chalkboards function, I have compiled some statistics on just how much Blues shoot on goal, as part of a bigger plan to have all statistics on this site. Please note all statistics are league only.
