Lee Clark
Smells Like Team Spirit
England’s faint hopes of making it into the second round of the World Cup were extinguished yesterday when an out-of-sorts Italy lost 1-0 to Costa Rica. It was a first exit in the group stage for England since 1958.

Hall Right Now
Birmingham City have boosted their ranks with the season long loan signing of Grant Hall from Tottenham Hotspur. The 22-year-old centre-back played on loan at Swindon Town last season and was an ever-present for the Robins in League One until injury struck.

Momentum and Change
Judging by the way my twitter feed exploded yesterday after the announcement made by Peter Pannu and Birmingham City there are a lot of fans who want to know just who is behind this British/North American consortium who are in negotiations for the club – which if one considers the protracted nature of the sale of the club is understandable.

Height, Pace and Ability
There has been a relative absence of news stories linking Blues to players that they are trying to sign and as of the moment there seems uncertainty as to what the squad is going to be like this season. With this in mind I thought I would offer my thoughts on what we should be looking for.

The Next Episode
Birmingham City manager Lee Clark has told the Birmingham Mail that he has no idea what budget is in place for the club for next season. In a frank interview with Colin Tattum Clark has spoken about not knowing who he can offer renewed contracts to or who he can look at to bring in on Bosman free transfers and the concern that is causing as he looks to start preparing for the 2014/15 season.

The Great Escape
An injury time equaliser from Paul Caddis for Birmingham City against Bolton ensured that it was Doncaster Rovers and not the Blues who were relegated to League One. In a “Great Escape” Steve McQueen would have been proud of Birmingham City stayed up by virtue of a superior goal difference to Paul Dickov’s men having come back from 2-0 down against Bolton.

Relegation Rave at the Reebok: Bolton Preview
Blues travel to Bolton today knowing that even a win against Dougie Freedman’s side may not save them from relegation. However, a point may be enough if Doncaster Rovers lose to Leicester City.

The Day Before
Birmingham City go into tomorrow’s game knowing that a single point from their final game at the Reebok could be enough to keep them up – and also that they could win and still find themselves relegated if other results go against them.
